Absolutely LOVED Manmarziyaan:great dialogues complementing the scenes, and characters developing, maturing and changing, just like life. Overjoyed that the movie ended at the perfect juncture. Not too early, not too late.
laila majnu second half was sheer poetry....that half was a thousand times better than the first half of manmarziyan.....anyways laila majnu was a better movie than manmarziyan
@Gargee Basak just the way we can do "Ram Leela". We can also do Laila Majnu in this day and age.
@Gargee Basak anyways was laila majnu a hit or a flop?
You prolly dont give a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can watch all the latest series on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my gf for the last few weeks xD
@Vincenzo Brennan Definitely, have been watching on instaflixxer for years myself :D
Laila Majnu!!! damn I've never cried in a movie, and I'm not talking about shedding a few tears, I'm talking about a full fledged, bloody serious breakdown. The moment Hafiz Hafiz song began i was so engrossed with Majnu, i could feel his pain and my heart would wretch at the sight of his misery. By the climax i already started breathing heavily and had tears built up, and then by the last scene damn i had to run out, with tears flowing left right and center and am so glad it was a Very late night show and i had the entire INOX washroom for a lifetime of breakdown!! I'll never forget this movie, THE most impactful movie for me ( im a sucker for movies and in the last 10 days I've watched Stree, Aplha, Nun, Laila Majnu, Manmarziya last night and Mitro tonight, Next week I'm watching Manto bcoz I've read Manto and ive HUGE expectations. I so wanna start a blog and write reviews, i'm too much in love with the movies)
Rishabh Somani ohoo bro you are adorable.. that's a lovely message hehe... I wanna watch it too :)
Yepp, no one understands love like imtiaz.. his characters are so unique but come with real emotions & sensibilities.. that are really close to the heart.
why was Laila Majnu not reviewed by Anupama and rahul desai ? This is why mediocre movies like Dhadak get the traction they do .. and good movies like Laila Majnu are not made. Please take some responsibility here.
My review is on the website.
Rahul Desai my apologies for jumping the gun. Empty theatres for a good movie make me angry. Also, the audience values your and anupama’s opinion when it comes to movies we choose to watch. If the review is missing, in this case anupama’s, the general idea that goes out is that it’s not even worth a watch. I hope movies like this are encouraged in future.
Why didn't you talk about "Gali Gulliya" ?
Shridhar H Gali Gulliya...? NO
Exactly they boast about movies and art, but not talk about the sheer masterpiece
Same question..
She get paid from Amitabh to talk good about abhishek, this movie is flop movie
Seriously! Didn't even post 'not a movie review' for Gali Guleiyan. Can watch shit movies like Mitron, talk about some movies more than twice, but no care for deserving movies.
i missed lets talk about movies - You should make it more often!
Bottle Fly I agree!
Exactly I love this series!
Pellichoopulu is simple real life based movie. Acting is realistic. But mitro is more commercial one acting is not good and forced songs is just irritating. Vijay acting is simple and we just connect to the story Watch Arjun Reddy to see his acting range.
Yeah Vijay is a good actor
yah i really enjoyed arjun reddy he is damn good in too .......but i rcently seen a trash called geethagovindham ..i didnt liked him in it ...
I was sooo happy when sucharita di called mrunal thakur a legend only after her frst movie 😍😍 love mrunal thakur she is amazing 😍
End mai ek random CUT. :P
Also, great discussion. Watched Stree because of Sucharita and it turned out to be great. Thanks.
That holy moment when Rahul Desai himself agreed that he is too 'Negative' made my day
No Gali gueliyan,stree and paltan??????
bhai paltan toh tatti tha.
This literally filled me with joy. Please never stop making these lets talk videos!! ❤️
Anupama seems to be the kindest lady on this planet earth 😍
I just keep noticing how Sucharita keeps looking towards the camera instead of just having a conversation with the other two and not caring about the camera. Isn’t this a conversation between them?
You know you are in a minority, when you pretty much agree with everything that Rahul Desai says or thinks.
Pellichoopulu is classic!! Please don't compare it!!
Well to start with it's not Tamil, it's a telugu movie, and further sucharitha was questioning how the Telugu one went on to win the national award!!
The Hindi one is just a mimic and mockery of the original Pellichoopulu !!
Agreed!
@@likhithnj is it that grt bro i havent watched it yet is it a must watch
@@sonideepak3243 actualy suchrita did compare
Laila majnu was a masterpiece and Avinash Tiwary is a gem❤
Why do i feel that the laila majnu premise was not built up enough in the first half to justify the dementia of majnu in the second half! For instance take rockstar... jordan's pain was so so so justified and came out in layers! But this first half just failed to build that bond of conviction which makes it hard to digest kais' post interval condition. It seemed hurried..
P.s. totally in love with the combo of music and cinematography topped with dollops of talented acting !
Manmarziyan will be a classic. It was pure real Love.omg I can still see Taapsee walking fast in narrow lanes, Abhishek falling for her unconditionally, helplessness of Vicky. N last walk was omggg love.
I just got back from watching Manmarziyaan and immediately turned on this video, hoping that atleast one of you would have loved this movie. I'm sad that none of you did. Here's my experience of watching it alone, and without having heard anything from anyone about it (I wish I could watch all movies with that blank state).
About 30 minutes into the movie, my brain switched off and I felt like I was eating up a movie rather than thinking about it. The lyrics, the writing the music, Amritsar, the cinematography, the slight magical realism elements of those twins +. After hearing you all talk about the protracted second half, I'm thinking back and intellectually agreeing with you all, but in that moment I wanted the movie never to end. I don't care how often that song game, by that point I would have watched a 3 minute scene of the trash outside Kesar da dhaba. And I know for a fact that nearly everyone in that hall felt the same way. I've never heard actual gasps - gasps! -when certain things happen. Particularly, when she kisses Vicky after marrying him, and then again. Not sure why you thought the second half was unadventurous. Loved Abhishek - I thought he was absolute perfection both as an actor and as Robbie the character. Loved every single person. That last scene was so reminiscent of Linklater in the Before movies, that I wanted it to go on and on. A part 2 would be wonderful.
After marrying Robbie*
FINALLY THE VIDEO I WAS WAITING FOR. THANK YOU.
I liked manmarziyan, even the second half
I love listening to your views and movie discussions. I request you to repeat the audience Q, as it cant be heard without a mic. Sucharita thanks for doing that a couple of times... I wish I could be a part of some of these discussions :)
I so wish I could be part of this conversation !! You can bring in more people (films students etc etc) and can make it a more wholesome conversation !!
Why you avoided "Stree" . I was so waiting for that to be discussed
I have paused the video at 5.29 jst to respond to you Anupama that characters like Robbie do exists in this world..I can tell u I felt so related to the character of Robbie.. It was like my role is being played on the screen.. As well talking about the outburst scene characters like Robbie do not outburst in a more flashy way even if they are drunk..So think his outburst type was also a layer of his character...
I AM SO IN LOVE WITH YOU GUYS!! THANKS FOR THE PLEASANT SURPRISE. 😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙. I'D HAVE TO LOOK FOR SOMETHING FOR MONDAY SNACKS THOUGH😅
Pellichupulu is classic it is very realistic if you understand telugu
Who else notice sucharita is getting hotter n hotter with every video??
🙋🙋
I love her dress !!!
Also because she is witty and smart, she talks on point everytime!
But she’s a feminazi that makes her less attractive...
@@rishijagtap3631 lol no it doesn't. She's still sexy
Sucharita, Avinash Tiwary ( Majnu ) is in tu hai mera sunday , its such a gem of a movie, do watch it if you haven't yet. Cant recommend it enough!
RAHUL DESAI...........................I have never seen you happy...........................Go back and surf all the interviews you have done with Anupama.................I MEAN ALL..............................In all the interviews...........you are saying - "IT DOESN'T WORK FOR ME".................Repost a single interview of urs where you were happy about the movie you saw....thats a challenge ;).........It seems there is no hope and no light in you as far as the bollywood Movies are concerned...............I am not saying Start Gushing about Bollywood cinema but then.....seeing u complain EACH TIME..................makes your opinions so predictable.........that everytime I watch the discussion....I already know that the MOVIE AND THE CHARACTERS DID NOT WORK FOR YOU...........................It would be good to see a HAPPIER REVIEW....WHERE YOU SHOW MORE POSITIVITY RATHER THAN AGAIN COMPLAINING OF THE REASONS WHY IT AGAIN WAS A FUTILE ATTEMPT OF A DIRECTOR. I am sure....in all these months...... there would be atleast one piece of art/cinema...that would have impressed you as a cine goer...........well if not impressed you but atleast satisfied you.
ANU - I AM A HUGE HUGE HUGE FAN........LOTS OF LOVE....................SUCHARITA - YOU ROCK AND SO DOES YOUR "NOT A MOVIE REVIEW"
There's a difference between critic's and reviewer..
Anu and shucharita are just reviewer and on the other Rahul is critic.. he understands craft of film making which reviewers can't notice.. he mostly talk about details in movies which many bollywood movie lacks.. They talk about technique which is every important part in film making.. but the reviewer just watch movies like normal people..
Watch channel "Cinema beyond entertainment" he make very interesting videos.
@@numbnut I will surely go n watch the channel but the predictability - ("Movies n Characters did not work for me") will not be able to pull me back over the time.
For ex- Anu's sense of humour (all her reviews, she comes up with dialogues of the movie and tell us how they were unintentionally so funny)........Rajeev's sarcasm (watch race 3 review - still remember it) and Sucharita's ott and animated way of articulating things pulls me back each time but such a simplistic way and non entertaining way of speaking...to top it up - make it all predictable and never be happy with anything...i mean anything at all....videos are here for posterity....watch them all n pull out a single video where his way of communicating and articulation is super entertaining and one such review where he is not complaining....I bet there isnt one....it does not EXIST.
@@navjotarora1417 everyone have their own taste I guess.. but I think you should first understand what he trying to tell..
And I think you giving reviewer's more importance then what to actually reviewing.. afterall it's about content they serve not facy wrapper!!
Talking about Anu ..I think she not understand films. She simply review movie same as my friends (with fancy words)
And shucharita she's more into women impowerment i guess.. You can find that in every video.. all she care women characters mostly..
And other hand Rahul Desai far from all of them.. he talk About Films like critic's.(read his articles) he talk about craft techniques which filmmaker try to show/tell..
And Rajiv masand well he is overrated i guess.
@@numbnut I disagree...I am giving them the importance they DESERVE....I agree they are here to service content but believe you me no one will bother to watch it all if it does not come in a fancy wrapping.......Its not just literally the taste of cappucino that you pay for....you pay for the cup, cutlery, coffee and Froth :)
@@navjotarora1417 you buy cappuccino because of its fancy wrapper Or for taste?..
we become so much obsessed with fancy things. We forgot about what it actually wrapping inside.
And sometimes wrapping is also part of the product..
But it's not mean you give product less importance.. afterall it's all about product isn't it?
What is the qualification required to be a film critic .. Genuine question if anyone can answer this ..
Probably Journalism.
Being a good writer also helps.
Mr cribber rahul desai. I wonder how does he smile in the thumbnails. As usual his rants. Recently raju hirani said and applys so aptly on him "whatever u like to do ..u become better and better at it. Mr desai is master at finding faults and now he is become a genius that he finds faults even when none exists"
Don't agree. Start watching world cinema and you'll understand the reason for his cribbing.
Aishwarya Sharma Thank you! Agree 100%
@@aishidiot Well I beg to differ honestly. If he's *that* disillusioned with the entire Hindi film industry, he should exclusively review Hollywood movies or regional, vernacular movies and give up reviewing Hindi films altogether. I don't get why he wants to be a Hindi film critic when he has nothing positive to say, ever.
PS: I watch cinema from the world over, including Farsi films, South Korean films and Argentine cinema. And I can safely say there are a few gems in Bollywood every year :)
@@saksheekumar Disillusioned means he doesn't exactly understand what his job actually is. If you think hindi cinema produces great or path breaking stuff, you're the one disillusioned here.
@@aishwaryasharma8091 Lol! Please Google 'disillusioned'. Also, you're quite a cynic if you think Kadwi Hawa, Newton, Aankhon Dekhi weren't gems. Oh wait, let me guess, you haven't seen any of these because you were binge watching Friends?
18:25 SUCHITRA : Tu garba karta hai ?
RAHUL DESAI dose not know what to respond
ME : 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Stree is a winner among these releases but not discussed here. It should have been.
Do these even realise that they are praising Manmarziaan but still they didnt like it. They kept on and on praising the film but they didn't like it. WTH?
I haven't seen Manmarziyaan yet but would definitely like to watch it without carrying the reviews in my head. Respect all 3 as actors and now i am excited to see the second half even if it was not liked 🤗
Having said that i do like watching their reviews but it also becomes important to form your own perception of movies as an audience
I will say what I think.
I think suchitra has a thing for protective men..(she hates Vicky kinds almost). Anupama is more into adventurous and indecisive(read real) men.. Rahul likes Robbie more coz he probably relates to the mature character as he has grown up now as he says himself. BUT he definitely LOVES Vicky which he is hesitant to admit.lol.
For me I loved Vicky totally because in my life I have been both Vicky & Robbie in my relationships. Actually IRL, Vickys become Robbies after their heart breaks. But Vickys are real, Robbies are created with experience. The true fabric of one's soul cannot be beaten by the second crafted character that you build for yourself to play. NEVER. And so shallow for Robbie's character to manipulate kakaji to push Vicky's parents to force him to submit. That was evil. The look in Vicky's eyes when he was backing up the jeep to remove himself from the scene just defeated me. So end result..I love Vicky.. sorted. I am happy.
Another good horror comedy, a lot less subtle, was Go Goa Gone though.
Rahul Desai is completely wrong about AB sir.....he's an amazing actor and was REALLY good in Manmarziyaan...
Agreeing wit u...he performed very well in this movie esp.
actually it was an average performance from him i didnt felt the impact in his dialogues ...but that brkout scene was sort of ok for me better than other parts(his) of the movie....
Please talk about stree more... Such a good movie
Manmarziyan, one key take away in comparison to 90's, early 2000's yrf kjo romantic movies is that the MUSIC has stayed and addicted me after the movie and makes me recall the love for the movie.
In the times, where music is for promotion, Its a great old school accomplishment for an Indie director, to successfully integrate music in the narrative.
Anu ma'am, if you like my comment, please send FC goodies.
Not watching pellichupolu is no brainer. How can "critic" miss classics.
I think this is a double negative
Madam..do not judge and pass comment on an unseen movie. 'Pelli Choopulu' is a classic..far better than regular hindi movies.
where is stree?
Stree kal aayegi. Get it?? 😅😅
Oo stree kal aana 😂
Stree ? Gali guleiyan ?
Oh my god thank you for mentioning Gali Guleiyan. It's one of my favorite films ever.
Question :does "gore and sex" need to be paired with style ex-:Hannibal,monogatari, army of darkness. Because I start losing interest and boredom swiftly follows when ever I watch anurag kasyap films .I am asking because I tried
Fantastic point...it's almost like Mr. Kashyap tries to remind you that it's his movie that you are watching. Very disappointed with the movie
I think like every other successful director worldwide, Kashyap has his trademark. I dont think its wrong. It might appeal to some and it might not to others but one cant ignore that Kashyap has a style of his own. Just like Guillermo Del Toro, Coen Brothers, Kurosawa etc.
I'm so glad there are others who think this way too.
eg.*
Rinky Sen.. true..I stand with you.
I just saw manmarziyan ... I felt it was good... It's a story well depicted and one that's worth the watch.
The frame is tilted
Where's the discussion about stree? That is a film the young & old can enjoy simultaneously. Rajkumar Rao talks exactly like people of MP do, everyone in that film has their language & actions down pat.
If you've not seen pellichupulu I highly recommend it! It's on RUclips. they've butchered the original with this remake
Gud films bad films average films. To each his own .one man's meat is another's poison. But Mr Rahul please get rid of this condescending attitude like now.
This guy called Rahul Desai looks like depressed and unhappy always🤔
Found the great deal of punjabi difficult to understand in Manmarziya thank god for subtitles!
i love to watch all videos of film companion. and also love to watch " lets talk movies". i have one suggetion to these show that please try to make these show trilingual. one can talk in english other in hindi and third must be in Marathi.
i am glad that sucharita is contributing to the discussion :)
I can watch manmarziya repeatedly and won't be bored
There you go. Finally at least Rahul had the courage to call out that Abhishek's capacity as an actor wasn't sufficient for the role. Given to someone like Rajkumar Rao or a more capable actor, this role would above overshadowed everyone else.
I hope the low collections of the movie will make Anurag feel that he shouldn't be giving out roles for charity.
I have a HUGE crush on Avinash Tiwary as well!!!!
Yay yay yay! I eagerly wait for this!
the guy is too honest , abishek's character is the best like he said , ab naild it 💓💓💓
Rahuuuuul nahiiiiinnnnn man!!!!
Abhishek was SO good in the film.
Sucharita, you've really peaked my interest in Laila Majnu - wanna check it out, now! Loving ''ahista", too. Btw you look so gawj over here (no hetro) 😆
Anu. Sigh. Par aap spoil karti toh hain, na??!
You've gotten better, THANK THE HEAVENS, but I still remember within the 1st minute of Aligarh's review, you went on about the pain and being crushed (or something to that effect) at the climax where he was found dead!
That piece of info I didn't know, or, even if, say for e.g. we were watching a review of a Dev D, knowing how it'll play out based on the common knowledge on that story, but some reviewer told us the end, phir toh ji pegeya syaapa!
Point is, ki many times you have given waaaaaaayyyy too much away.
Bas. Kehdiya. 😊
I have seen the movie - Manmarziyaan.......................I LOVED the first half.........but as you rightly mentioned..........the second half just DRAGS.....and thats with all Anurag's movies................for example.................even a part in LUST STORIES BORED ME TO DEATH...........................KJO's was the most gripping and interesting story in Lust.
Why is there no talk upon Stree?
I'm really disappointed with Film Companion's review of Manmarziyaan.. It was highly overrated. I mean seriously..aisa kya tha movie mein jo humne kahin nahi dekha?! Even AB's role which is being hailed for having shades of grey.. I guess we've already seen it in Tanu weds Manu and with greater subtility ( remember the scene when Madhavan doesn't give her the pen in spite of having one...nd I also think there was way more credibility to his character as a lonely NRI with no friends ever!)
What shocks me even more is that Mr. Rahul Desai has given this movie, out of ALL the movies, 3/5 rating. I really look forward to reading his reviews..and am actually relieved when we're on the same page wrt a movie.. When I saw Manmarziyaan 's trailer I was pretty sure I wouldn't watch it... But when FC praised it.. I changed my opinion..but honestly it was drab from the very beginning..
Please explain me the significance of showing twins whenever the characters were confused in Manmarziyaan? The twin girls in Punjab and twin men in Kashmir...Does it relate to confusion as twins are often mistaken for their identity??
Twin represents two minds about an event ..for her situations look same.. although they are different.
Shraddha Kapoor was also in Stree. The most popular face in the film. Atleast give her some credit.
Why no Stree!!!??
13:30 they are happy actually.
0:52 that was vital scene in that movie. You can enjoy chamtkaar scene. They are brilliant and funny too. 🤷
I like this format of movie discussion.
Don't mean to hurt anyones feeling, just reviewing Anupama's reviews.
Anupama tries to be a intellect critic from outside but actually she is Karan Johar of critics, pretentious n embellished, who loves to interview stars n only watch their movies.
I sometimes feel Anupama's reviews changes as per the star cast of the film. If it's a small budget film she will just thrash it badly but if she saw some worse move but have some big star in it, she will watch her words. For instance, you can compare her Satyamev Jayate review n Race 3 review, both caters to mass audience. In Satyamev Jayate, she just started criticizing n went on n on n on but In case of Race 3 she said film is so bad that I gave up n start enjoying the movie. How come??
Fun fact: she didn't even liked Queen, didn't even watched anarkali of aarah coz swara isn't A-listers n gave 4/5 stars Befikre
#ReviewersAin'tPaid but can be influenced 😂
Nevermind
Haven't proofread, so don't comment are Angrezi to sikh h aa 😀😀
Was waiting for this one :)
'We don't understand what the white gaze is': Obviously, if you also think 'white people, NRIs are at times more authentic than the filmmakers from here'. Also, this is also the reason why you didn't find the white saviour aspect as a problem with the film. Please read some books about the white gaze and representation, please.
Come one Manmarsia is a very Nice movie. And the End is Perfect
Yes!!!!!!!Yes!!!!!!!!Yes!!!!!!!!!
And the sad truth is that mrunal thakur will never beg the best debut award .
11:45 Sucharita too dramatic 😂
Anurag Kashyap is a great director, the problem is he will never learn from his mistakes. He's arrogant as fuck and that is what makes his movies unique. His movies are like bubble gum, it's feels good when you start chewing it but soon the flavor starts disappearing and you feel like spitting it out.
Can anyone tell me what happens at the end of manmarziyan? I want some spoilers please
Rahul Desai ka takiya kalam- It didn't work for me.😂😂😂😂😂
Why no Stree?
Rahul Desai is the Nirupa Roy of Film Companion.
does anything work for Rahul Desai?
I m really excited about Patakha 😀
Dear Anupama, I’m sorry but if I ever make a film, It will be an honour if you don’t review it.. your observations are not only high handed, but also shallow like a south mumbai Jane.. it feels bad to see that film reviewing has become just another media outlet, rather than being a well rounded, expert, critique observation.. about manmarziyan, there’s content in first half.. but there’s craft in second.. It’s the first Anurag’s film which doesn’t feel like docu patch work, on pretext of making a dark film, the guy is simply lazy.. Abhishek is great especially in the second half.. he could’ve been a little more able, just a little more, but still the guy has come a long way.. and his performance was the best.. Taapsee is good, but Abhishek surprised me, with his method acting, he has left behind the mediocre/ pretentious approach towards his work. I hope to celebrate you soon, like I’m celebrating Abhishek at the moment. Thank you Reza
Spot-on! Same my thoughts.
Just an same old plot with a bit different 'Treatment' and see how they r appreciating the so mediocre director and a writer.
@@gazalasiddiqui4984 mediocre director... Lmfao...go and watch dharma productions movies
Manmarziyaa ..is a flop
Already it declared.... Stop this nonsense..
I agree with Rahul Desai 100% - Abhishekh needed to give more to his character esp coz it was a complex character to potray in Manmarziyaan. He is the reason for the slump in the 2nd half of the film. You needed a stronger actor to play this part who could express more through his eyes and body language than what AB could.
FC just do this 'lets talk movies', more often ,dont see views & all.you are like quality label of authenticity.
Omg I soo wanted to see you gus
I don't know why sucharita keeps contradicting herself so many times.. Her reviews are almost always slightly different.
I dint watch mitron but from the sound of it, it seems like a cheap badly made remake of pelli choopulu. How can you comment on the original if you haven't even watched it? Its a beautiful well-made classic.
Anupama aunty likes wild raunchy love stories #manmarziyan#befikre
Suchitra don't look at the camera while discussing,,
11:40
Man was waiting for you guys.. why don’t you three do it more often
There is something called screenplay, acting ability and being realistic which is spot on in pelli choopulu and totally lost in mitron...you just cannot copy a movie shot by shot and expect it to be a hit like pelli chopulu...PELLICHOOPULU is a NATIONAL AWARD winning movie(best telugu movie and best screenplay)!!! REALLY SAD!!
I just came here for sucharita .
Rahul Desai logic on films
Q. Which is best film..
Rahul: The Nun
Q. Did u watch it?
Rahul : doesnt matter, its Hollywood film
Q. Which is worst film?
Rahul : Stree
Q. Did u watch it?
Rahul : doesnt matter, its bollywood film
I feel you guys are a bit to generous about Anurag Kashyap and Abhishek Bacchan... The movie was such a poor remake of Tanu Weds Manu. Not a single character was developed properly. Was really excited about Manmarziyaan but was disappointed. The music is the best outcome of the film...Amit Trivedi's best work since Dev D.
Pelli Choopulu is a classic.
It is true that AB was the weakest link - he couldn't carry off the role. Wonder what would have happened with another competent actor.
