Absolutely LOVED Manmarziyaan:great dialogues complementing the scenes, and characters developing, maturing and changing, just like life. Overjoyed that the movie ended at the perfect juncture. Not too early, not too late.

Laila Majnu!!! damn I've never cried in a movie, and I'm not talking about shedding a few tears, I'm talking about a full fledged, bloody serious breakdown. The moment Hafiz Hafiz song began i was so engrossed with Majnu, i could feel his pain and my heart would wretch at the sight of his misery. By the climax i already started breathing heavily and had tears built up, and then by the last scene damn i had to run out, with tears flowing left right and center and am so glad it was a Very late night show and i had the entire INOX washroom for a lifetime of breakdown!! I'll never forget this movie, THE most impactful movie for me ( im a sucker for movies and in the last 10 days I've watched Stree, Aplha, Nun, Laila Majnu, Manmarziya last night and Mitro tonight, Next week I'm watching Manto bcoz I've read Manto and ive HUGE expectations. why was Laila Majnu not reviewed by Anupama and rahul desai ? This is why mediocre movies like Dhadak get the traction they do .. and good movies like Laila Majnu are not made. Please take some responsibility here.

Rahul Desai my apologies for jumping the gun. Empty theatres for a good movie make me angry. Also, the audience values your and anupama’s opinion when it comes to movies we choose to watch. If the review is missing, in this case anupama’s, the general idea that goes out is that it’s not even worth a watch. I hope movies like this are encouraged in future.

Why do i feel that the laila majnu premise was not built up enough in the first half to justify the dementia of majnu in the second half! For instance take rockstar... jordan's pain was so so so justified and came out in layers! But this first half just failed to build that bond of conviction which makes it hard to digest kais' post interval condition. It seemed hurried..

I just got back from watching Manmarziyaan and immediately turned on this video, hoping that atleast one of you would have loved this movie. I'm sad that none of you did. Here's my experience of watching it alone, and without having heard anything from anyone about it (I wish I could watch all movies with that blank state).
About 30 minutes into the movie, my brain switched off and I felt like I was eating up a movie rather than thinking about it. The lyrics, the writing the music, Amritsar, the cinematography, the slight magical realism elements of those twins +. After hearing you all talk about the protracted second half, I'm thinking back and intellectually agreeing with you all, but in that moment I wanted the movie never to end. I don't care how often that song game, by that point I would have watched a 3 minute scene of the trash outside Kesar da dhaba. And I know for a fact that nearly everyone in that hall felt the same way. I've never heard actual gasps - gasps! -when certain things happen. Particularly, when she kisses Vicky after marrying him, and then again. Not sure why you thought the second half was unadventurous. Loved Abhishek - I thought he was absolute perfection both as an actor and as Robbie the character. Loved every single person. That last scene was so reminiscent of Linklater in the Before movies, that I wanted it to go on and on. A part 2 would be wonderful.

I will say what I think.
I think suchitra has a thing for protective men..(she hates Vicky kinds almost). Anupama is more into adventurous and indecisive(read real) men.. Rahul likes Robbie more coz he probably relates to the mature character as he has grown up now as he says himself. BUT he definitely LOVES Vicky which he is hesitant to admit.lol.
For me I loved Vicky totally because in my life I have been both Vicky & Robbie in my relationships. Actually IRL, Vickys become Robbies after their heart breaks. But Vickys are real, Robbies are created with experience. The true fabric of one's soul cannot be beaten by the second crafted character that you build for yourself to play. NEVER. And so shallow for Robbie's character to manipulate kakaji to push Vicky's parents to force him to submit. That was evil. The look in Vicky's eyes when he was backing up the jeep to remove himself from the scene just defeated me. So end result..I love Vicky.. sorted. I am happy.
Another good horror comedy, a lot less subtle, was Go Goa Gone though.

There you go. Finally at least Rahul had the courage to call out that Abhishek's capacity as an actor wasn't sufficient for the role. Given to someone like Rajkumar Rao or a more capable actor, this role would above overshadowed everyone else.
I hope the low collections of the movie will make Anurag feel that he shouldn't be giving out roles for charity.

Sucharita, you've really peaked my interest in Laila Majnu - wanna check it out, now! Loving ''ahista", too. Btw you look so gawj over here (no hetro) 😆
Anu. Sigh. Par aap spoil karti toh hain, na??!
You've gotten better, THANK THE HEAVENS, but I still remember within the 1st minute of Aligarh's review, you went on about the pain and being crushed (or something to that effect) at the climax where he was found dead!
That piece of info I didn't know, or, even if, say for e.g. we were watching a review of a Dev D, knowing how it'll play out based on the common knowledge on that story, but some reviewer told us the end, phir toh ji pegeya syaapa!
Point is, ki many times you have given waaaaaaayyyy too much away.
    Bas. Kehdiya. 😊

  • @akankshayadav6818

I'm really disappointed with Film Companion's review of Manmarziyaan.. It was highly overrated. I mean seriously..aisa kya tha movie mein jo humne kahin nahi dekha?! Even AB's role which is being hailed for having shades of grey.. I guess we've already seen it in Tanu weds Manu and with greater subtility ( remember the scene when Madhavan doesn't give her the pen in spite of having one...nd I also think there was way more credibility to his character as a lonely NRI with no friends ever!)
What shocks me even more is that Mr. Rahul Desai has given this movie, out of ALL the movies, 3/5 rating. I really look forward to reading his reviews..and am actually relieved when we're on the same page wrt a movie.. When I saw Manmarziyaan 's trailer I was pretty sure I wouldn't watch it... But when FC praised it.. I changed my opinion..but honestly it was drab from the very beginning..

Don't mean to hurt anyones feeling, just reviewing Anupama's reviews.
Anupama tries to be a intellect critic from outside but actually she is Karan Johar of critics, pretentious n embellished, who loves to interview stars n only watch their movies.
I sometimes feel Anupama's reviews changes as per the star cast of the film. If it's a small budget film she will just thrash it badly but if she saw some worse move but have some big star in it, she will watch her words. For instance, you can compare her Satyamev Jayate review n Race 3 review, both caters to mass audience. In Satyamev Jayate, she just started criticizing n went on n on n on but In case of Race 3 she said film is so bad that I gave up n start enjoying the movie. How come??
Fun fact: she didn't even liked Queen, didn't even watched anarkali of aarah coz swara isn't A-listers n gave 4/5 stars Befikre
#ReviewersAin'tPaid but can be influenced 😂
    Nevermind
Haven't proofread, so don't comment are Angrezi to sikh h aa 😀😀

'We don't understand what the white gaze is': Obviously, if you also think 'white people, NRIs are at times more authentic than the filmmakers from here'. Also, this is also the reason why you didn't find the white saviour aspect as a problem with the film. Please read some books about the white gaze and representation, please.

Anurag Kashyap is a great director, the problem is he will never learn from his mistakes. He's arrogant as fuck and that is what makes his movies unique. His movies are like bubble gum, it's feels good when you start chewing it but soon the flavor starts disappearing and you feel like spitting it out.

Dear Anupama, I’m sorry but if I ever make a film, It will be an honour if you don’t review it.. your observations are not only high handed, but also shallow like a south mumbai Jane.. it feels bad to see that film reviewing has become just another media outlet, rather than being a well rounded, expert, critique observation.. about manmarziyan, there’s content in first half.. but there’s craft in second.. It’s the first Anurag’s film which doesn’t feel like docu patch work, on pretext of making a dark film, the guy is simply lazy.. Abhishek is great especially in the second half.. he could’ve been a little more able, just a little more, but still the guy has come a long way.. and his performance was the best.. Taapsee is good, but Abhishek surprised me, with his method acting, he has left behind the mediocre/ pretentious approach towards his work. I hope to celebrate you soon, like I’m celebrating Abhishek at the moment. Thank you Reza

I agree with Rahul Desai 100% - Abhishekh needed to give more to his character esp coz it was a complex character to potray in Manmarziyaan. He is the reason for the slump in the 2nd half of the film. You needed a stronger actor to play this part who could express more through his eyes and body language than what AB could.
