    I would guess it's a bit risky to cut into a gas cylinder which might have some residual gas in it? What if the cutting makes a spark? It would be better to unscrew the valve and fill the cylinder with water then empty it before cutting.

      It's actually an r-22 tank for refrigerant used in cars (I'm a mechanic and see them all the time, personally I wouldn't use one as they're much thinner than a regular propane tank but I guess that could add to the light-weight factor) it's pretty inert and nothing to worry about catching on fire

      If you remove the valve and leave it a few hours it vents on it's own
      People turn these into little stoves for camping the same way.

    Might be a but cruder than others but in fairness it helps a lot. The thing works well. Damn there’s a book from some author selling on Amazon for hundreds where he explains how to make one. Books called, Gas Burners for Forges, Furnaces & Kilns. Never pay hundreds for it. All you need is the gas bottle, and it should have end taken off with spanner and filled with sand before cutting to be safe. Anyway so then plastic bucket and tube to go through wall. Fill with plaster of Paris and there you have it. Paying hundreds for a book yeah right? Only thing I’m missing so far is people put cement sometimes with little insulating bits of something in it. Don’t know what that stuff is. Anyway thanks for this video.

      The best way to cut a cylinder is run an exhaust pipe from a gas engine (carbon monoxide gas) into the vessel to be cut. The C O will displace the air and NO possibility of ignition will exist.

      What is harmful for eyes is UV radiation from welding. However, if you watch a movie of someone welding, the camera doesn't pick the UV and you TV/computer screen doesn't emit UV. So, it's safe to watch on TV/computer screen someone welding and it's safe to film someone welding as long as the cameraman doesn't look directly at the welding.

      You cant use charcoal when using kale wool. Youll have to use gas for that... Charcoal is more fun to melt metals with and its not as loud as a gas torch is even with the blower on. Also, you dont even have todo what he did in the video with the plaster of paris... the empty gas tank is completely enough and it will work just fine.

    I like how you use the blower. Is it possible to use a heat gun to melt the metal in the furnace without the use of gas. Heat gun or blow dryer.1🤔🤔???????

    An old steel Folgers can will get hot enough to melt aluminum in a fireplace, if you have the bottom in hot coals. I have done it.

      yes, but only in very large doses. I welded many pipes together today without any ventilation indoors and it didnt harm me in any way. I used both Mig (without gas) and arc welders. Haha i also burned my hand because im to lazy to actually use safety lol.

    Should have fired it to burn off all the original paint first. Then clean the surface a bit, and use some high temp manifold paint. But good job! I'm thinking about building similar design.

    Can U melt " copper " in this way?

    • @RandomHands
      @RandomHands  6 лет назад +2

      Yeah you can melt "copper" in this way. But copper(1000oC-1100oC) has more melting point than aluminium(600oC-700oC), So you need to change setup a little bit. You need to make insulation more better to melt copper.

    • @Grizzydan
      @Grizzydan 6 лет назад +2

      You would have to use real coal, or restock a lot more charcoal. Better to build a propane or oil burner setup.

      Big Dan thanks for your guide

    • @Grizzydan
      @Grizzydan 6 лет назад +1

      +ali no search youtube for oilburner it's an australian guy who has built furnaces from simple scrap with no crazy technical knowledge that runs off used waste oil and can melt entire aluminum engine blocks with just the flames shooting out of it. Absolutely magnificent.

    • @RandomHands
      @RandomHands  6 лет назад +1

      Propane is better than charcoal and oil in two ways : Propane burner is easy to use and have no any residue and secondly it is smoke less. The main problem with oil burners is the smoke which contains carbon monoxide and carcinogens that can cause serious health problems if the area is not ventilated well. But if the area is well ventilated and you are not allergic to smoke then oil burner is best. Thanks Big Dan for your opinion and guidance....

      How'd yours go? Would love to hear any tips / findings!!
      I built 2 forges (saw a better way to do it when 90% done w/ the 1st, so now I can do my idea of a hot-form-box made of gypsum/cement to see if it casts cleaner/better than regular greensand) Sadly neither got hot enough to melt alum., I didn't seal-off things well enough and the air-intake wasn't aiming anywhere near optimal, I've got propane and a prop/bute mix but going to head out there and give it another try w/ just air-induction before using the gas!
