It's amazing, every year it seems to be the best 59 reissue ever, stunning Gibson ability to keep making it better.... or marketing, I wonder...😂

Marketing. Same guitar since the 50’s

@@agusg.t.8950 I was being sarcastic, that was my point. Apart from minor neck profile changes, top carves, pick ups and minor changes in colour they are the same each year. Oh and the yearly prices increase.
I say all that I am looking to buy a nice custom shop 58 or 59 on the 2nd hand market.

It's honestly about how it will age and slightly about playability. Mostly an aesthetic thing. From the headstock down the 59RI has different materials other than the mahogany and Maple.

@@daviddorrian5349I have a 60s standard that I'm in the middle of converting to a V1 '60 model. I want the $10k Golden Poppy R9 but I can't see that much into a guitar.

It's marketing. As the years go by the guitar companies get better and better at convincing young players that if they don't have guitar X they will never be a good guitar player. Meanwhile the guy who just sits there with a decent guitar and practices all day ends up being the best guitar player. That's how it works guys. Practice makes you good. Not the guitar. Yes it's nice to have a high-end instrument, but if you can't afford those pumped up price$, just get a decent guitar that you can afford and LEARN TO play it well and everyone will listen to you before they listen to some rich idiot with 15 fucking Custom Shop guitars who doesn't know how to play. You're welcome.

I got the Wildwood Spec 60th Anniversary R9 VOS and it’s amazing! The neck is perfect and it feels and plays unbelievably! Not sure why, but my pickups sound a lot clearer than these. Either clean or dirty. Literally can hear every note. Maybe it’s the compression through RUclips or something. Which, the Wildwood custombuckers are under wound from what I’ve heard. Those guitars do look really great. Nice demo.

I think one major reason would be because the Wildwood Custombuckers are underwound

Great sounding guitar! I bought my R9 playing it side by side with a Murphy and liked the R9 better…it’s all about the feel - they both looked and sounded great but I liked the neck and fingerboard on the R9 better.

My 1998 Gibson R9 is the best because of its monster flame top 😁

I have both. The Murphy Lab had a sticky neck at first, but now it's worn in. The R9 is good but not much different than the Standard.

Sticky neck syndrome! That's a classic! Glad it's worn in and feels right now!

The aging can peel off like wallpaper from the lab.

Thank you! Finally someone points that out… and idk if u seen the Andertons interview with Murphy lab but holy shit. When Tom Murphy took out the railroad spikes and keys on a key chain and said they drag keys all over the guitars and rub spikes on it made me want to punch my tv…. Should be called Gibson Key Lab

Murphy lab crap is for people that want bragging rights and don't play guitar, IF they did they would know that your guitar is gonna get " reliced" by you.

Sorry but there is a ceiling in terms of how good a guitar can be. The rest is marketing and GAS. In my experience these guitars are bought by non players. Strummers with major GAS AND $$$. Players who gig don’t buy these. Cause they generally already have good guitars and they don’t see the value of trading in 5 excellent guitars for a single Murphy. Sound wise Murthy’s sound different because they use low wind pus to make them sound different to higher wind les Paul’s. But this is hidden so that the player thinks it’s the guitar itself that makes the difference. The tonal differences are due to the pickups. 100%.
