    Good info. I like the low torque availability. I have problem threading with a Little Machine Shop Hi Torque lathe. I can do 5/16 " dia. Motor does not appear to have enough torque at low speeds for anything bigger or harder material. A follow on thought: Is it possible to use this setup to increment a partial rotation for making something like a micrometer dial or a new handle dial for a lathe?

    Perfect! I'm doing your project now. But I have a doubt to chose the motor. I saw some closed loop STEP MOTORS with 12Nm torque, but with low speeds (max 1200rpm). Your SERVO MOTOR have 1.91NM only, but it seems really powerful on the video. Do you think 1.91nm is really enough? Or I'm wrong about STEP x SERVO torque comparation.

      A low-speed spindle motor will not allow you to work at high processing speeds. And sometimes it is necessary, for example, to work with wood. My motor has 3K RPM and is powerful enough to run even at 20 RPM. Servo and stepper do have different torque comparation, you are absolutely right about that.

    Gene I want to put a motor on my Granite 1340 max so I can rapid the carriage only. What motor and parts do you recommend ?

      Look for turnkey solutions for your machine. It is difficult for me to recommend anything, since all machines are very specific for their type. Moreover, I do not know the parameters of your machine at all

    Nice, i am interseting how u choise timing belt, you have two same pulley, and which is belt lenght?
    Did u measure center to center distance, then belt lenght..or?

      Yes, I decided on the size and type of pulleys, then measured the distance between the centers of the pulleys. And then I calculated the length of the belt on one of the online belt length calculators. I got 214XL belt and ordered it on eBay.

    Gene I plan on doing this same setup to my G0602 and was interested in getting your encoder cad file so i can see if it works on mine. Thanks!

    nice , I need to replace my lathe motor to something similar

    • @vgulya
      @vgulya  3 года назад +1

      Yes, I like this solution. But as it turned out after long attempts to establish full 100% functionality of the lathe, it is the best way to use the Ethernet Smooth Stepper Board + C82 Dual Port Multifunction Board for the controller. I recommend taking this particular set instead of M16D + PoKey.

      @@vgulya is there any other simpler speed control system ,something like plug and play

    • @vgulya
      @vgulya  3 года назад

      @@ParsMaker Is your lathe a CNC machine? In this case, you will have to use some kind of motion controller. If you just want to replace the spindle motor on your regular (non-CNC) lathe, you can simply use the servo motor driver to manually set the spindle speed.

    I hope some one has tried this set up and can tell me if you can thread
    with this set up . I have almost the identical set and can not thread . I
    can program speed and direction but am unable to sync the spindle with
    the z axis . If anyone has been able to thread with this setup I would
    really like to hear about it.
