I feel like we get the tip of theiceberg as far as your talent is concerned... and it always leaves me wanting more. Can't wait to see what you accomplish.
When I first got into Pantera, it was around 98-00 so I had few years to soak them in before Dime was murdered in 04. Fast forward to that terrible day, I was at home watching tv and my mom and her bf came home. He was an old school metal head from the 80's, he told me to turn on CNN as he had heard some terrible shit was going on but wasn't sure who it was about. We sat there in disbelief as we slowly learned that it was Dime and 3 others that were shot and killed that night. He was a man of few vulnerable emotions but he sat there silently crying till he just got up and went into his room. I sat there numb while the terrible news just recycled over and over. Finally I went to my room and the first thing that came to my mind was to listen to Vulgar Display. Made my way through the entire album and finally got to Hollow. That song had never carried any kind of emotional weight for me as I had had a pretty good life growing up. It broke me that night and I cried for hours. That song was so painful to listen too and I couldn't bring myself to for years after that night. Many years later and I fucking blast this song on full volume in honor of Dime and now Vinnie as he has since passed as well. Long Live Dime and Vinnie!!!
Bro... i started a bit earlier than you but that day happened to be my last day of high-school. I was an alternative school kid hence graduating in Dec. It hit me like a ton of bricks as well i cried to my mom for hours i mean like 10 after doing so many black tooths my cousin had to carry me into the house. It felt like i had an arrow through my heart he was my Eddie VanHalen. Still to this day theres a empty place in my soul. I wanted to meet him since i picked up guitar he was literally the reason i did. That bastard didnt just steal his life but mine and alot of other peoples dreams. Like you i will never forget what Dime gave us.
such a shitty day. i was mucking around learning Blink of an Eye on the guitar the day i heard the news. Love that fucking song but havnt listened again without feeling sick .... and sad.
That's a therapeutic thing for you to tell everybody about the pain you felt that day. As cheesy as it might sound, it is for whoever reads your story as well. We become so attached to our musical heroes, we worship them. When they go, it's like losing a bit of ourselves, or at least a family member. Maybe that's a consequence of what Dime himself said: "Heavy metal is what I'm into. Shit that moves you. Shit that has a heart and a soul." The people who are involved in this music are usually very, very soulful and sensitive persons, no matter how hard is the shell they (or should I say, "we") allow to show from the outside.
Kayla, I'm truly in awe of your playing skills. I realize that much of what you play was already done by Darrell and you're basically covering him. But you still play it in your style, in your unique way that so impresses me. I am most fond of your abilities! Don't ever quit.
This song gave me tears when I found out about dimes thing, uhhhg great song and you nail the solo and play it like it amazingly,so so good! I have tears but they are happy tears, you play amazing. Thanks for this.
I’ve always considered a rytham guitar player, but sometimes try some leads. Watching your vids helps me kinda grasp where to play certain things. I don’t have a great grasp on theory, but I learn more from watching ppl play it. Thanks man. Your vids are awesome, hope I can one day play some awesome pantera solos.
I really like your Kramer, you just can't find those JK8000's laying around so I'm making one of my own 24 fret though... it's going well and it'll be finished soon. Great playing ! I enjoy watching your channel.
Would you be able to do a lesson on the harmonic squeals at some point? I can get a handful of them, but not the super high ones like you play towards the end.
There's some really high harmonics between the 2nd and 5th frets, typically you need a butt load of gain to get them to come out. For me, some of the 'trick' is not touching the top of the string to make the harmonic ring, but the side of it. I think I learned that from a Synyster Gates lesson video ages ago.
@@spoonerluv another trick some people use is to load up the gain, add a slight touch of delay, kick the wah on and leave it in the treble position and use it as a boost. If you watch the videos Dime did with Young Guitar shortly before he died, he mentions all but kicking on the wah-- but someone pointed out you can actually hear it click on if you pay close attention when he's giving the demo.
This whole song used to run through my head and I thought the echo delay parts were some punk rock band that part just played over and over I didn't register it as Pantera but I knew I heard it from somewhere idk that's just why this song weighs heavy on my heart today
0:37 🤯🤯🤯 you make that axe SCREAM!!! I CAN'T STOP LISTENING!

Just the tip.
@@SalandFindles Yep. That's what I was thinking
