True. In my opinion, Allan far surpassed Coltrane. I mean, listen to _Low Levels, High Stakes._ Not to mention his chordal playing and just his ability as a composer. Allan was the greatest to ever do it, out of all instruments. My opinion, of course.
Glad to hear Lerxst say Holdsworth played like a sax player: I've often drawn that comparison myself, because of Allan's unique phrasings and odd construction. Nobody played like the late great Allan Holdsworth, and I'm fairly sure no one ever will. By the way, great to see Alex in this interview, he seems to be doing fine (I hope he does). When I first picked up a guitar, Alex Lifeson was my hero and meant so much to me. He still does, I owe this man a lot...
exactly what I thought... what interviewer would suggest Summers and The Edge as having an influence on Lifeson? Gimme a break. It would be the guitarists who came before him, or his earliest contemporaries - like Steve Howe... and Holdsworth is one of those as well.
Every guitarist that fans think is the 🐐 rank Holdsworth 🐐... everyone from McLaughlin to EVH to Shawn Lane to Vai to Gary Moore to Alex here.. coincidence I don't think so
Ricky to the hotel clerk ...."I'm taking this man in he's a male prostitute" Alex in his bathrobe getting wheeled out of the hotel on a luggage dolly🤣 that was great LoL I didn't care much for "Trailer Park Boys" until I saw that episode, incidentally Bubbles is a real decent guitar player 👍
Yep for some Fin’ Rush tickets and if I’m not mistaken ( it may have been another episode as TPB had tons of Rush references) the hotel room number was 2112!🤘
I like that Alex calls it a vibrato arm. That’s what we all should call it.
He always comes across great, he's a lovely guy
His solos are among the most beautiful and excellent in Rock: Red Barchetta, yyz, la Villa strangiato, Jacobs ladder, Camera eye etc
Alex Lifeson is seriously underrated. One of the greats. 🤘
I think THE most underrated!
I don't agree, he's actually held in very high esteem by many of his peers,..
No he isn't, most people i know think he's a god
I have to go listen to Rush’s “Limelight” right now... on my old 33 1/3.
Thanks for sharing 🎸🎶🎵🇬🇧
Much love to Alex 👍
Allan's guitar hero.....was Coltrane.

Allan Holdsworth - the guitarist’s guitarist

Gotta get guests full guitars in shot. You can’t see his picking hand and he’s talking tremolo vibrato.
I think it’s on zoom
….not to mention that was a seriously short piece..I’d love to hear the entire interview. What a life and career he has had…and he’s not done yet…!
Good
The Edge??!

Alex, where do I get a Lerxt Strat like you have? Hook me up brother!
Are you kidding the edge?
😂 LoL....right
Whats wrong with Edge you edgelord?
Pretty sure Allan never actually played sax at any point. He certainly wanted to and was inspired by it.
Anyone notice the guy with glasses reflected in Alex’s guitar?
I so agree that Holdsworths guitar sounds like a sax. Especially in " In the
dead of night. "
guitar
Yet another great rock/progressive rock guitarist, himself very influential, who was very influenced by Allan Holdsworth.
Ricky kidnapped this dude once.

Pretty obvious that Chris Shiflett has never even heard of Holdsworth, if he had he'd probably be a more interesting player.
