This made me feel sick. Not that it was bad, but because it was so unnerving. This mysterious man who is evil incarnate is just running around influencing the world. And the one guy who figures it out disappears without a trace. It’s written like an episode of true crime television.
@spencer sss It's one of my favorites too! I was in a similar boat of not having read something like this before but man I'm glad I did. I still think Monster is the reason I got into manga as much as I did
i think the book saying hes in a coma is low-key genius. the OS mentions multiple times that johan would fake being asleep to gather information as achild. Perhaps he has uped his game and learned how to fake a coma, and is awake, simply bidding his time
@@ikanberapi2189the timeline is a little confusing but as far as I’m aware, the ending scene of Monster where Johan left the hospital took place in 1998. The novel was written in-universe sometime after 2001, as all the interviews that he writes about were during 2001.
The biggest crime is how little views this video has. Seriously, should be at least half a million. It's so well done! Thank you for sharing. Even among "Monster" fans, the novel is rarely brought up. Really interesting videos
Johan's mother had two personalities because In the last episode she told tenma that I remembered twins name and I have to tell it now because I will never remember again I think that her other personality didn't know the name of twins
YESS it could be! But there's still one thing that kinda confused me... In the book, the sequel, it said that Johan's mother's name was Vierra or something. But then, when Boneparta wrote a love letter to her, in the end it said, "You may have your name back. I return your name to you. Your name is Anna…" Wasn't Anna her sister's name? Was she really living two lives cuz it'll make more sense. And if she was also the victim and didn't get the letter ergo still doesn't know her own name, it's also possible that she will forget the twins names... ughh I'm losing my mind!
@@sadia8174 well that's valid point if it's her sisters personality she maybe have known name of twins (Maybe vierra didn't know names) I don't know it's confusing
i'm replying this three years later lol but yeah franz bonaparta was johan father's step brother through johan grandfather's extra marital affair...so technically johan's and nina's step uncle...
The first and littearly ONLY video on RUclips that had the fucking balls to tackle this topic and extremely well at that! Excellent summary of each critical point in the story, the historical back drop of post WW2 East Germany and Communism's gradual decline were a nice touch using real life pictures and footage. It's been almost a decade sense I read a fan translation of this story and I feel there were many parts I glossed over but with this video I think I understand a little bit more what it was trying to say. The be all end all was NOT Johan, it was this complex series of events started by dangerous and emotionally unstable people that took advantage of a fragile political and institutional structure, sacrificing many both innocent and guilty along the way to protect themselves and out of vindictive spite. I have a new found appreciation for Urasawa's writing and what he focuses on, I haven't read 20th Century Boys yet because I keep hear its "THE GREATEST MANGA EVER CREATED" but theres so few analysis videos on it im questioning the authenticity of that statement, I love your videos so hopefully one day you can do that one as well.
Thanks N, I'm glad you enjoyed! There's just so much in this book. It shows Urasawa had really developed this whole world behind the mainline story and it all pieces together so well. I'm mad I didn't pick this up after my first time reading this series! I'd like to hit 20th Century Boys one day but probably not for a while. I think it's a good read but I definitely enjoy Monster and Billy Bat more. So if I do 20th CB then I want to do it well.
@@SeaGee I don’t know if you will answer this because this video was so long ago but this ending doesn’t feel like an ending and after I finished monster and this my mind is still unsatisfied with this I feel like there must be more .
I read somewhere a crazy theory about Johan killed Tenma and Nina and that's why they don't appear in the book. Johan wrote the letters Nina send to the journalist, rejecting his interview. And Johan wrote Tenma's letter too, imitating his handwriting. I don't believe it cause if Tenma or Nina were dead it would be a great new, besides Johan doesn't have a reason to kill them.
Johan will never kill tenma and nina bacause they're the only two who are worthy to see "the scenery of doomsday" then tenma will kill johan thats why its "the perfect suicide"
To be honest thats sound bullshit because Johan are actually consider Tenma and Nina as important people in his life and he didn't really have nothing to do with them. And i think at the end he realizes if there still good in humanity but well....thats just a possibility
I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention the final sketch left behind in Weber's room, the one that looks suspiciously similar to Johan... Who drew this picture, and why? Was it Fuhr, the picture book artist, trying to describe his foggy memory of the young man he'd glimpsed burning down the Red Rose Mansion? Or was it Weber, the journalist and former street artist, trying to hurriedly copy down the face of the culprit behind his subsequent disappearance? It's obvious that the picture was left behind for a reason, but what kind of message was it intended to convey? I think that, in the same way Bonaparta's experiments continue to live on, Johan's "work" will continue on as well. Whether it's only a symbolic "inheritance" or perhaps it's actually Johan himself (iirc, it's only the public version of the story which says that Johan remains in a comatose state)... who knows? The beauty of Urasawa's writing lies in the manner of which he refuses to spoonfood his audience, instead allowing them to draw their own final conclusions.
Even in the book says no one knows if Johan's still sleeping, if he died or if he scaped. Some fans think Johan scaped and looked for his mother to kill her, cause she doesn't appear in the book, so Tenma and Nina. Some say the ending is like the beginning, Tenma talking to an unconcious Johan and him waking up to kill someone. By the way it's pretty interesting the journalist has Nina's address so he knows where she lives, and it would be more curious if he knew her e-mail address.
To be honest I read through the book twice. Once in full and then a second quick skim through. The first time I thought: great, Johan's left ambiguous. The second time: wait he actually is in a coma? I normally would hate it not being clear but I think that's the whole point around this series and Urasawa doesn't let up. And yeah Moonlight, there's so much in this book I definitely left out some pretty interesting cuts. Thanks for adding that in here!
@@ladygrinningsoul357 I think all these speculations about what happened to Johan, it's clearly Urasawa saying that the people in the story are "in the dark" as much as we, the public. In fact, many of these speculations are the same that some had when they finished seeing Monster. It is also part of the "fame" of famous serial killers. Johan in the story has practically become an urban legend and inspiration for many other criminals.
Yea tbh I lean on the idea that he escaped , yk since it's consistent with the story how the monster that sleeps later awakens. Or it could be fuhr idk
I finally found the time to watch this. Thank you for your dedication to underated works such as Monster and for making analysis videos like these SeaGee! Thanks! I really like how Urasawa has "reimagined" those folklores into a modern story. Even Bonaparta's storybooks are modern fairytales of those real ideas. I wonder what this story would be like coming from a culture with that belief..
This video made me read “Another Monster” and it’s just so good! It’s so detailed that if I’m not aware that it’s fictional I’ll probably mistaken it as true to life! It deserves more recognition! And in the end it made me question... ‘Is that Johan? The one Weber sketched? Is he killing again?’ asdfghjkl! I don’t know anymore! Plus, the “In the room next to yours.” is so creepy, if I’m Mr. Weber I’ll probably passed out after hearing it before I could even saw the culprit. Btw, thank you for this video!
@@Avzxu that is actually the question. Who is the client? Is it Hermann or is it Johan? Either way it's up to us to decide. How about you? Do you also consider that it's Johan? or it's obviously Hermann (for you)?
@@Avzxu my guess is... whoever this new monster is is much cautious therefore ending the chain of those who are interested in the case. "Anyone who could lose their name, but still survives would be a true hero." It would be flattery or even biased but i think guts from berserk truly represent that. Everyone dies in eclipse who actually knew him and even his most important person in his life but he still survive in the end and fighting with everything. Fighting with his own dark desires, pain and fear even though it didn't lead anything. Even though revenge is one of his wrong decision but it truly show his strength that he has the will to take revenge even though it didn't give him back his identity. Just this fact that he tries to understand other's pain through his empathetic nature to find some meaning or his belonging in the world even though he ignores this fact because of his useless revenge and tries to reach his goal through it saves him every time. He always fighting with his darkness to find his place in world which can only he can handle and give shape to it in right way by literally going more deeper in it which can create some meaningful change in the world. Guts never forget his own identity and what he truly desire from himself at least unconsciously. What i mean by previous statement that people try to comprehend their identity from the perspective of others by not by himself. A good example is wolf how he is destroyed and fall into despair by loss of meaning in world and what he should do because he think this meaning can only be derived by others but it is not true. Guts teaches us that even though you lost your place and identity from world. You should know yourself that your identity is and what do you truly wanted to do with it and use your whole strength to create a meaningful change in the world with role in the world or worth of you in the world. Guts do this from the start of the series unconsciously but slowly started to integrate in his consciousness when he find his new meaningful place in his new group. He continuously encounter his mistakes and things which he hate from himself but never consume by it and finally try to become what he is.
Nice parallels Hermit! It's interesting how these series can take two very different approaches to show how people grapple with identity and despair. It makes me think about the Berserker Armor which initially takes away Guts' sense of self to heat of battle. It's a literal embodiment of losing himself to his revenge. Heck, Berserk is such a good series
@@SeaGee yeah thank you for replying and video is really well made and give me new insights about monster. I said that it could be flattery in previous comment because i didn't mean to say that berserk is the only series which do that. Possibly my other two favourite series vagabond and Gunnm (Alita battle angle) also do that but in different ways. In these two series, main character did struggle to find their whole self or identity but it is not like guts which lost his identity but still survive. In gunnm, main character did lost his identity but then she started from scratch to find or create his new self by integrating her previous one. That's why i think berserk does this more efficiently
"Four years ago, I went to Prague. Who knows why, but I wanted to set foot again in the scariest place, the Red Rose Mansion. But it was engulfed in flames. And then he emerged from within. The end…in the Landscape of the End, there will be only he and I.” Hermann Führ, Another Monster Who's Hermann taking about here is he talking about Johan? Because after this incident he left the red rose mention and there was a picture of a guy who look like johan.?
yes, he saw johan. He caught Johan's laughing and said "The End... in The Landscape of the end, there will be only HE and I" it means only TENMA and JOHAN for the end perfect suicide Johan
I’m genuinely scared that not only Johan but another monster are in this world,to the point that being in the attack on titan world would be easier to live in!
When I watched the Mindhunter show on Netflix in 2017, I knew David Finch is a fan of Monster immediately during the final scene of the 1st season (Ed Kamper confronting the main protagonist showing him the reality of a serial killer). The scene is basically a shot-for-shot adaptation form the manga.
@@SeaGee It's one of my favorite Crime/psychological thriller series. The story gets really dark in ways similar to Monster. I think another show deeply influenced (or loosely adapted from) Monster/20th Century Boy is the original British show Utopia (not the crappy US version).
Is it weird that I thought the sequel is scarier in it's societal implications than the first Monster series? 0_0 For me, there was kinda a sense of the experiments being discontinued at the end of the first series. But the part with the experiments mentioned to start again, with the possibility of a lot of different kinds of "Johans" (or just Johan-like people) coming out of the woodwork to spread psychological destruction?! The Monster universe could barely handle one Johan! 0_o
I got the same vibe Pheonixtail! While the original ended pretty ambiguously, it did feel like it was the end of those kind of expirements. With Bonaparta, Chapek, and co dead, why would it keep going? But now we learn that yep the scale was much bigger and stretches into governments and nation's still reaching for more power. Definitely a scary way to wrap up the series.
This whole video is brilliant from start to finish, but I disagree with Führ being the instigator of the Zweifelstadt massacre. Both Mustafa and Kiener describe him as a man in his forties, meaning he must have been born around the same time as Weber and Grimmer - the 1950s - and is too young to have been the graduate student. I personally think it was Bonaparta testing out his technique on a larger scale.
Thanks Melissa and great point. That would make Fuhr only around 10 at the time of Zweifelstadt. That's a mistake on my part. Cheers for pointing this out!
Just started Monster yesterday. Half way through it now and man, is it good, glad this video is out, I was already looking for a possible season 2. I hope this gets animated or a sequel is made from a different side of the world. Favourite character as of now is Mr. Runge. Although I dislike his decision or rather, his persistence on blaming Tenma as the killer. Mr. Runge is just a savage, mans had his daughter pregnant and wife had a lover, both were leaving and he’s just like “aight bet, we’ll talk when Im back”. Also, the one time were he exposed the reporter/journalist, made him fold haha. He’s whole gimmick is just like crazy good and interesting as a character. Not perfect just enough to make him human and not some android. As of episode 25 (ik I said half but it’s close enough) Monster is a solid 8.9 or 9.2/10 It gives me those King Game vibes while staying realistic and the whole mystery plot just makes it it’s own thing. Johan is also a compelling villain too, even when he’s not on scene or being talked about everything seems to drive towards his presence making him feel so powerful and inhuman just like the title, a “Monster”.
I hope this didn't just spoil things for you! Though you'd certainly be in a unique position of coming into Monster with this background info first. I think this is the Urasawa story with the most fleshed out world/backstory Anyways hope you enjoy the rest of the series. It's one of my favourites and you're still in store for some twists and turns!
@@SeaGee No sir! Don’t worry. I saved this video to watch it as soon as I finish the series so I don’t spoil myself. I’m on episode 33 rn and man, I’m liking Dr. Gilles I think his name was. When he confronted Mr. Lunge recently I really thought Mr. Lunge was going to change his minset, I hope nothing cliche happens like if Tenma Kills Johan and that’d give an excuse to Mr. Lunge to proves he’s (Tenma) is the killer (even when he was wrong until the end). Haha, he’ll start elaborating on how Tenma was just obsessed with the kid he saved that ended up on the Majors death and blah blah blah “it lived in his head, that guilt” or something you know? Haha. We’ll see, the story really found me questioning and theorizing like if I was part of the detective group😭😭😂.
You can hate or you can love the series for leaving so many things on the air but something that cannot be denied is that it is one of the few works that is not afraid to leave an ending made just so that YOU as an audience can continue thinking about it. And the book is definitely scarier than the anime. Who would say it?
I just finished the anime and got a copy of Another Monster. I'm watching this even though i haven't read it yet lol. Glad yt recommended your vid to me! Also liked your Monster timeline vid! Cheers
Thanks Banana! Enjoy the read! I think Another Monster is really good and definitely develops a lot of the ideas the main series has. You're gonna have a great time reading it!
In the last chapter when herman furr or the person on phone says he is next to the room of his, I think it was johan because johan in monster last episode disappears from hospital which says he isn't in comatose and there was also a hastenly drawing of johan because he was the one who came , werner don't know how johan was look alike because case was not disclosed in public so how johan looks like was also not known by rest of world. So this may be a clue that. Johan is now out of comatose and also the hermann furr or fritz weindler. But maybe there can also be like this another monster is just another personality of johan who want to live in peace. Or johan and furr are really two monster Because as stated into book, that when hermann again goes to the red rose mansion, it was in flame and a monster was coming out from the flames.
I still couldn't catch what Johan's canon ending is 😭 is it him being in a "comatose" state or is he on another killing mission again or did he stop and start to live as a human again
Thanks Brian! I feel ya, it's a lot to bite off in a series. I find this book puts the emphasis on Bonaparta and really shows what a monster he was. Hopefully it helped fill a few gaps from the man series!
Just finished reading the novel after my reread of Monster, such a great book and i regret not reading sooner, but maybe it was for the best reading it only after Monster was extremelly clear in my mind again, i hope we can see something regarding who has the said politician one day.
What about the last sketch Weber drew on his memobook. The rough sketch indicates that it can be of the person who killed/abducted Weber, like Weber was trying to sketch the person's face. And why does he looks like Johan?
@@kurtroy31 probably one of the easiest ones to adapt also, if they just get the shinigami right you could literally copy and paste from anime to live action
Honestly I wanted Yohan to use tenma past and manipulate him to look into himself and find that he also had some broken things in him and turn him into another monster. And if they could bring a twist that yes tenama was already a sociopath but great at controlling himself than that would have been the climax of the centuries
9:47 I don’t know how long this book takes place after the main events of monster, but Johan was in a coma for a long time. It was long enough for Tenma to leave with Doctors Without Borders and return home for a time. It could be reasoned that this takes places in the months or so in which Johan was in a coma before he escaped.
In my case I found the book in spanish. But when I was looking the book in English, only I found it in japanese. Fortunately I speak spanish and it was easy to read it if you watched the anime, but in the spanish book, the name of the another monster is Herman Fuer no Fuhr.
I mean, you could say that, but that would mean he, as a human, has a different nature than, say, Grimmer. I think Johan made the choice of becoming a monster, given the circumstances he was put in by Bonaparta and the rest.
Johan was born that way, as was his nature. He is a psychopath through and through. He is not created by trauma or a bad upbringing. It is genetic. In reality, it would not have mattered if his sister Nina was Sarah or Emily. A whole new person, facing a whole set of other problems. Johan wouldn't have cared either way. It's why he is the way he is, and always will be, a psychopath.
Now, are you correct? Does that mean Johan has a totally different nature? That he is, say...a totally different species? Well, in our lifetime we will never know.
Yea i really don't like how it was confirmed that Johan never escaped and is still in a coma, it ruins all the ambiguity of the ending. Although the rest of the book was great, that detail broke a lot of the enjoyment for me
Yeah I really wish that would've been left alone. I love all the extra details in the book but giving a "canon" ending to the original was certainly not for me either
I haven’t read Another Monster but was it actually canon? If not then I don’t think it should matter too much, I’d say you can still interpret what you want from the original imo
Thanks Gaior! It pulls from a bunch of different animes so I've got no specific answers sorry. It's sampled from this video: ruclips.net/video/Z2bxlZisk2w/видео.html
Okay so- I read this explanation somewhere which made the most sense so imma just put it here... The final scene in the show after Johan reveals this to us is Tenma snapping out of it, and discovering Johan is asleep before he leaves the room. The next shot is an empty bed next to an open window… Johan’s bed. Was he ever there in the first place? Did he get away? Did he jump out the window and commit suicide? Did he kill more? Johan actually goes on from here to live a healthy, happy, fulfilling life without killing. Why? Because his reverse rooftop game gave him the answer, he was chosen by fate. The only reason he wanted to die was to find a reason to live, and by surviving this perfect suicide, he knows there’s a reason out there. All of this… was realized in a single masterful ending that took up around 4 minutes, and it was the perfect ending to an excellent story.
as a Czech speaker born and raised in the Czech republic you sure did butcher those names of Czech historical figures and some of the German too but all is forgiven because that stuff is nigh impossible to pronounce to anyone that hasn't lived most of his life here very good video keep up the good work man i needed something like this to eat up some of the world building details thanks man. sidenote when watching the original monster i actually though the picture book "Obluda, která nemá jméno" was real i was very disappointed when i found out it is in fact fictional monster really did this stuff right. the czech in that show is good (aside from how it is spoken but the grammar is good and the sentences make sense) i love it.
One question is do we get new informations after the last episode from monster or is this a new story like an ,,another moster,, because it would be boring without the context from older stuff
We get a little bit of information about what happened to some of the characters after Monster. Most of the book is looking deeper at things that happened in the original. Definitely need to have seen the original before reading this.
I'd love to see this animated. I reckon it'd be a tough one to adapt though. It splits between getting more details on the original story and the new story with Hermann Fuhr. Plus its just criminally underread so might be missing the fan support
Stick to your values. Don't let them go. Even if you meet a Johan. A true friend will never destroy your values. They will empower them. Those who put you down aren't worth it. Keep your head up like Kenzo.
I wonder if you read message to adolf its very very similar to monster even i think monster its inspired by it since osamu tezuka is naoki's role model
I have a question regarding to your explanation that Johan is in Coma then how is he able to escape from that hospital in the last episode or in the last chapter?🤔
Sure Kamna! So there's a lot of ambiguity around Johan's end. Some people have interpreted that last chapter of Monster as Johan never escaped. The empty bed explained by him being moved somewhere more secure or managed for long term coma patients. That, of course, agrees with the "official reports" from Another Monster. Others say that he did escape and the coma story is all some nonsense to not let the public know a serial murderer escaped. Personally from how I piece it all together, I'm more inclined to believe the coma story since the whole thing really became to high-profile to cover up. One of the things I love about this series is that my interpretation of the ending is always changing so heck who knows what actually happened.
@@kamna..3854 And we'll never kwon what happend with him, maybe when Netflix will take the copyright of Monster and become it a live action. I don't know.
Hey I have two questions Hope you can answerr me I am not getting any answers to these questions 1)why did johan isolated hans George schubertt Was there a specific reasons?
Heya, I'll do my best: 1) The isolation was all part of Johan's original plan. We don't get too many details but presumably he wanted to gain all of Schuwald's wealth and power. He was already close to getting this even after Karl showed up. I think he was trying to gain power alongside Christof for whatever reason. 2) I think it has to do with showing Tenma "the landscape of the end." It seems like one of those things that can best be experienced in a desperate situation (like Schuwald in the burning library.) Though, I too don't really fully get Johan's plan behind Ruhenheim.
Not gonna lie i enjoy it more then monster because the theme is so much more dark and mysterious. Cant get enough of it in yt so im gonna read it. And re read it probably a few times
I think it's unlikely. There's some cool stuff in here but probably not enough to create an entire sequel season. Plus since it's just a novel it would be that much harder to adapt
Either I'm too stupid or I'm not ready yet for Another Monster novel... Because man i just finished the anime a few days ago. But really want more Monster content so i search for more information like what happened at the ending, is Johan real or just a imagination made by Tenma and other people who know him and ect. I just finished watch the theory video and man idk what to do with that information. Hell i still haven't recovered from that Johan quote "Was my mother really trying to save me that day, or did she just confuse me with my sister?" Because it just feel so random like why the hell Johan thought about that
2:42 dude i came here for the full information since it was never released in english. Ffs now i have to go find one that actually does give the full story instead of bits and peices
What about the scene where johan was talking to tenma about his mother giving him away to France bonaparta ? Was that just tenma day dreaming or johan just got a power to communicate despite being in coma ?
Well, it is mentioned that Tenma got a scholarship to study medicine in Germany under the supervision of Dr. Heinemann, and it is also shown in the main series that he attended the same university as Gillen in Düsseldorf (and they were both taught by Dr. Reichwein). That's when Gillen began to feel jealous of the student who was "sociable, talkative and, on top of that, had excellent marks"...
To my understanding there's Japanese and Spanish versions you can get off Amazon. There's an unofficial english fan translation floating about too. I found a copy up on Archive org. There's also an email of the translator on the wiki which I've heard some people have got a copy from directly. Hopefully that helps

@spencer sss It's one of my favorites too! I was in a similar boat of not having read something like this before but man I'm glad I did. I still think Monster is the reason I got into manga as much as I did
Hisoka! 🔥
i think the book saying hes in a coma is low-key genius.
the OS mentions multiple times that johan would fake being asleep to gather information as achild. Perhaps he has uped his game and learned how to fake a coma, and is awake, simply bidding his time
I mean its also possible that this story of timeline was taken during the coma of Johan and before Johan ran from the hospital.
@@ikanberapi2189 That's what I was thinking, though I'll have to read the book to actually find out.
@@ikanberapi2189Do you mean child version of Johan during coma or the final episode Johan in coma where the series ends?

@@ikanberapi2189the timeline is a little confusing but as far as I’m aware, the ending scene of Monster where Johan left the hospital took place in 1998. The novel was written in-universe sometime after 2001, as all the interviews that he writes about were during 2001.
The biggest crime is how little views this video has. Seriously, should be at least half a million. It's so well done! Thank you for sharing. Even among "Monster" fans, the novel is rarely brought up. Really interesting videos
Thanks Lena! Happy more people are checking out the novel. It's such a good read, especially for how few people seem to have read it

Johan's mother had two personalities because
In the last episode she told tenma that I remembered twins name and I have to tell it now because I will never remember again
I think that her other personality didn't know the name of twins
this is a golden comment. wow
@@meowraiu2 I just remembered that fact while watching this video
YESS it could be! But there's still one thing that kinda confused me... In the book, the sequel, it said that Johan's mother's name was Vierra or something. But then, when Boneparta wrote a love letter to her, in the end it said,
"You may have your name back.
I return your name to you.
Your name is Anna…"
Wasn't Anna her sister's name? Was she really living two lives cuz it'll make more sense. And if she was also the victim and didn't get the letter ergo still doesn't know her own name, it's also possible that she will forget the twins names... ughh I'm losing my mind!
@@sadia8174 well that's valid point if it's her sisters personality she maybe have known name of twins

The part where it is hinted that Franz Bonaparta is Johan's uncle and about Johan's mother's lost twin sister left me thoughtful.
We already knew that Bonaparta is his uncle in the end of the manga/anime too
i'm replying this three years later lol but yeah franz bonaparta was johan father's step brother through johan grandfather's extra marital affair...so technically johan's and nina's step uncle...

I hope 1 day this gets an anime adaptation or at least a manga adaptation.
Johan finally had a reason to live, he was chosen by fate and Tenma wasn't a hypocrite, this changed Johans thinking.
That is one creepy theory. I'd agree that I don't think that's what actually happened but I do love that its still a possibility!
I don’t think so. the two most important persons in Johan’s life were Tenma and Nina. Maybe it’s part of Urasawa trap.
If Johan kill Tenma and Nina, then we dont have Johan anymore. Such a normal crimmal
No when your message isn’t clear and people have all these different convoluted interpretations it’s just bad writing
I finally found the time to watch this. Thank you for your dedication to underated works such as Monster and for making analysis videos like these SeaGee! Your analysis and description skill are amazing❤️ we love you
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Awesome video. The concept of taking somebody's name to control them actually exists in real, historic folklore and religions.
It is so good! I'm glad this helped you decide to read it. I think it's such an amazing addition to Monster.
And no worries! Glad you enjoyed!
Excuse me i have a question who was the client?and why the client decided to let his henchmen use weber’s name?
@@Avzxu that is actually the question. Who is the client? Is it Hermann or is it Johan? Either way it's up to us to decide. How about you? Do you also consider that it's Johan? or it's obviously Hermann (for you)?
Shiena Mae oh thank you.but why either of them asked henchmen to use weber’s name?
@@Avzxu my guess is... whoever this new monster is is much cautious therefore ending the chain of those who are interested in the case. Great video and a *really* chilling ending. Even if these experiments never create anything close to a Johan, the possibilities are terrifying
I was set free. I stopped running. I could paint my picture books, and live like him. The end…in the Landscape of the End, there will be only he and I.”
Hermann Führ, Another Monster
Who's Hermann taking about here is he talking about Johan? Because after this incident he left the red rose mention and there was a picture of a guy who look like johan.?

For me, there was kinda a sense of the experiments being discontinued at the end of the first series. But the part with the experiments mentioned to start again, with the possibility of a lot of different kinds of "Johans" (or just Johan-like people) coming out of the woodwork to spread psychological destruction?!

Oof yes! And after everything poor Grimmer has been through, I bet he's facepalming somewhere up in Valhalla. 0_0

As of episode 25 (ik I said half but it’s close enough) Monster is a solid 8.9 or 9.2/10
It gives me those King Game vibes while staying realistic and the whole mystery plot just makes it it’s own thing.
I think this is the Urasawa story with the most fleshed out world/backstory

Haha. In the last chapter
when herman furr or the person on phone says he is next to the room of his, I think it was johan because johan in monster last episode disappears from hospital which says he isn't in comatose and there was also a hastenly drawing of johan because he was the one who came , werner don't know how johan was look alike because case was not disclosed in public so how johan looks like was also not known by rest of world.

In my case I found the book in spanish. But when I was looking the book in English, only I found it in japanese. Fortunately I speak spanish and it was easy to read it if you watched the anime, but in the spanish book, the name of the another monster is Herman Fuer no Fuhr.
The experiment didn't make johan evil and monster. It was his true nature to become like that
I mean, you could say that, but that would mean he, as a human, has a different nature than, say, Grimmer.
Well, in our lifetime we will never know.
what an incredible video, thank you very much
Yea i really don't like how it was confirmed that Johan never escaped and is still in a coma, it ruins all the ambiguity of the ending.
I think the sequel should be Kenzo, Eva, Lunge and a few others, Maybe Dieter??? trying to stop the new experiment.

So if Johan had been confirmed to still be in a coma, what's with the hospital bed being empty at the end of the original series?
he just go to toilet
Maybe it was never revealed that Johan escaped, or he escaped after the timeline of the book.
It's state that he has achieved his goal- 'perfect suicide'. Because now he is just a rumour that johan exist or not. what's his real name
@@triad2411 yeah he just went to the toilet while in a coma
Nice video, i love all ur monster videos.
I believe the empty bed meant that he was finally free because he finally learned his real name.
as a Czech speaker born and raised in the Czech republic you sure did butcher those names of Czech historical figures and some of the German too but all is forgiven because that stuff is nigh impossible to pronounce to anyone that hasn't lived most of his life here

sidenote when watching the original monster i actually though the picture book "Obluda, která nemá jméno" was real i was very disappointed when i found out it is in fact fictional monster really did this stuff right. the czech in that show is good (aside from how it is spoken but the grammar is good and the sentences make sense) i love it.
Do you know where I can find the monster soundtrack
Imagine if a fan after reading this book and watching monster anime will become the next monster......
Honestly a good monster 3 would be Johan and Anna Vs Furr trying to the world back in order
Good break down I support your effort
Cheers, glad to know it's appreciated!
anybody know what the pixel background is from at 4:02?
Another Monster anime should have take place in the United States.Starting in San Francisco, California.
Hey, that was a really good video. If you see this would you tell me the song you used from 31 to 41 minutes in the Bonaparta section? Thanks!
Thanks! The music was "Back Hall - Extended" from Amnesia The Dark Descent
@@SeaGee Thank you very much
What song is playing right when the Tenma section starts? Is it from Hollow Knight?
One question is do we get new informations after the last episode from monster or is this a new story like an ,,another moster,, because it would be boring without the context from older stuff
We get a little bit of information about what happened to some of the characters after Monster. Most of the book is looking deeper at things that happened in the original. Definitely need to have seen the original before reading this.
Do any of you guys know where I can find the paperback english version for this. Or are there just fan translations
I think there's still no official English translation. So yeah just the fan translations at the moment
Yup, thought so
The mbmbam joke made me so unreasonably excited
Can anyone tell me why this book hasn't gotten an anime adaptation yet like Monster did?
I'd love to see this animated. I reckon it'd be a tough one to adapt though. It splits between getting more details on the original story and the new story with Hermann Fuhr. Plus its just criminally underread so might be missing the fan support
Where can I read the LN in English version for free. If anyone holds a link plz reply me. Aarigato❤
They need to made anime of this
You can stick to your axis. Even if someone moves it.
Very funny yet informational
I love to hear it, thank you
I have a question regarding to your explanation that Johan is in Coma then how is he able to escape from that hospital in the last episode or in the last chapter?🤔
@@SeaGee thanks for your explanation.. and ya u are right nobody knows that what actually happened to Johan...
@@kamna..3854 And we'll never kwon what happend with him, maybe when Netflix will take the copyright of Monster and become it a live action. I don't know.
Like wow is this video long haha. But nonetheless, this is a great video, keep up with this good content, you're already doing great, much support!
Thanks North! Always great to hear from you!
Hey I have two questions
Hope you can answerr me
I am not getting any answers to these questions
1)why did johan isolated hans George schubertt
Was there a specific reasons?
Heya, I'll do my best:
1) The isolation was all part of Johan's original plan.
@@SeaGee thank you so muchhh🙌🙌
Not gonna lie i enjoy it more then monster because the theme is so much more dark and mysterious. Cant get enough of it in yt so im gonna read it. And re read it probably a few times
Will there be a second season to the anime?
I really wanna know what happened to Johan after monster
Same! I feel like it'll be one of those things we'll never know for sure
What about the scene where johan was talking to tenma about his mother giving him away to France bonaparta ? Was that just tenma day dreaming or johan just got a power to communicate despite being in coma ?
It make more sense Fanzs Bonaparte like Johan mom. I feel for his dad.
i dont know if this will ever get read or answered but if tenma studied in japan how or when did the while dr gillen arc happen
Nice snatcher background during the clinic scene
I will forever be grateful to TFS for introducing me to that game
@@SeaGee it’s one of my favorite games
I can see why. The story in that game is awesome, even that final almost 30 minute cutscene
28:30 - really crazy how animalistic human mating is. Father and son competing for a mate
I really want to read another monster but I can’t find it anywhere, if you know where it’s available or have other information please tell me
To my understanding there's Japanese and Spanish versions you can get off Amazon. There's an unofficial english fan translation floating about too. I found a copy up on Archive org. There's also an email of the translator on the wiki which I've heard some people have got a copy from directly. Hopefully that helps
