- ATC at events like Sun n Fun can be a little unconventional, and flying in is pretty chaotic, but the fun and people make it all worth it. Fly a DC-3, a T-6 with the Aeroshell Team, a TBM 900, and more. Awesome aircraft boneyard on the way here: • Flying Into the Most R...

I've been flying since I was 16 and at age 19 flew around the world by myself in the same 1981 A36 Beechcraft Bonanza I still fly, becoming the youngest person ever to solo circumnavigate by aircraft.
Now, I'm sharing all kinds of aviation adventures with YOU! Ride along as we explore the world from the air and get a close up look at some of aviation's best flight experiences and destinations.

You know that you have reached "SuperStar Status" when the controller calls you by your first name. Bravo.....
That’s me in the yellow C150 holding short at Zephyrhills! It was awesome to meet you Matt!
"Fun time here in Key Weird," lol. I love this guy...cute, brilliant, and a great sense of humor.
The DC3 pilot, Dan Gryder, was the same guy that featured in a lot of the Flightchops videos. He is an awesome flight instructor
Yup Steve also did a few flights in that DC3 and gave some away, I think the videos are up on his channel
Dan gryder is the same guy who tried to run the police over with his DC-3 and went to jail
@@bradymurphy196 Holy crap you were not kidding.... why the fuck was he doing that?
That sharp turn to land at 14:25, then the video breaks, did that landing go ahead? What was that for? I was going to quote the pilot who flew checks between Federal Reserve Banks about 1988, who was buying a clipboard where I worked, said that flying into, I guess it was Boston, at night was like being in the Battle of Britain. And Matt must do a lot of jogging to keep his weight under control.
Yup - the one where they Blew the Cub off the Runway - HAHA!!! - Watched that only the other day. And then Not long after watched FlightChops in a Super Fortress...
When I saw the B17 coming in for landing in Matt's video I was thinking it was the twilight zone of coincidences - because if that was the B29 Super Fortress Chops was in, then it was like a full on Flight Inception-Off!
Halfway expected Matt to be snacking in the middle of the Aeroshell ride
Best comment here! :)
Haha, that's great 😂
I need an inverted pineapple upside down cake review.
"Yeah.. that's pretty good."
That’s not just any TBM900 - it’s owned by one of the two guys who made the record breaking New York to Paris flight earlier this year - in the other guy’s TBM930
@Jeffrey Simmons Yeah but the owner isn't any TBM900 owner
Matt, you pack so much into your episodes, it's thrilling to watch. Great episode.
Cool ending. I got a good laugh out of the takeoff clearance
Living in Lakeland I had the pleasure of watching this chaos over the lake from the ground while listening to the ATC. Hopefully I'll be taking off of runway 9 soon.
Thank you for this absolute masterpiece!
Wow, what a week! Flights in a Bonanza, T-6, TBM 900, DC 3, and cleared for takeoff by name! You, sir, have been blessed!
Great vlog as usual. There is nothing more assume that to be acknowledged by name for the very first time. It keeps you going for the next six months and you will never forget it. Fantastic.
As I live here in South Florida, big fan of Key West... And the TBM... Thnx for the great vlog Matt...
Really enjoyed the video Matt. Looks like lots of fun. Had some trouble trying to separate the radio and your speech but I guess that happens as you get older. I am in my mid 70's and have never been in a small aircraft like yours. Stay safe. regards from the UK
Awesome 360 degree gimbal rotation on that loop. Lent a unique perspective to that maneuver.
I truly enjoy watching your channel, it inspires me to keep working on my development of my airlines.
I hope, at your age, it's not lost on you; the exceptional privileges you realize in your flying and dining adventures. Enjoying the VLOGS. Nice work.
Thanks. It absolutely is not 🙂
@@mattguthmiller I still follow you after your round the world adventure. My son and I were there @ HP Aircraft when you landed a few years ago. Keep it going man! Love your videos!
this is an awesome experience MATT
great times. thanks for sharing!
My god. That approach was stressful! I've never flown into Sun N Fun, but I've been into Airventure a number of times, and never have I encountered a controller that was that wound up, and intense.
Great Video very cool to get to fly the DC-3. Also that TBM 900 ...Nice
Sweet landing. Thanks for the excellent vlog.
Great program today. Pumped ready to fly
Awesome edit, nice work!!!
*NICE VIDEO MATT! I LOVE UR PLANE* ...
Nice video, you certainly packed a lot of fun into that weekend! I was thinking as you flew the DC3, how about trying for the fastest twin piston circumnavigation record? Would look really good on the CV!👍
Haha, Matt line up and wait! Matt cleared for takeoff! Too cool!
I used to operate TBMs back in the 1960/70s speed of travel was 1m in 20 mins, she was 3 football fields long and never stopped from 7am Monday till 7am Saturday. By the way they were Tunnel Boring Machines but like you we had a crawl plan to follow for line, and level and believe it or they could slide on curves.
The best flight I've been on was in a twin seater powered glider, we flew around the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. The instructor was in the Egyptian Airforce senior officer and when ATC complained he gave an airforce call sign, nothing more was said!!!!!!
Love the videos! What a fun way to enjoy life! Wish I was in my twenties , I'd do it your way. I've had my license for 30 years and haven't flown in the past 10, The technology today is amazing. Love watching you walk through the panels punching buttons! Read an article recently that Autopilots are doing 90% of the flying today! I was curious if this is true for you as well. Does that mean that a 1000 hr pilot has 100 hrs flying the plane?! What a rush having the tower calling you on first name basis!
I liked the wheel over the lake for parking. Great idea. Breaking the dot up into several segments (colored dots) for multiple landings was an excellent idea.
Was doing my checkride in Canby and heard you pass by, was going to say hello but the examiner was talking. Flew into Aberdeen last week as well, big fan!
Very cool you are famous 👍 Great video keep making them. Safe travels
Very cool video dude, must have been an epic time
Great video as always Matt. Towards the end was that the same B-17 that was lost this past week?
There was me thinking SteveO was gona be flying the TBM
That was really cool what you got to do!
Damn, you're so lucky man.. Living the dream.
Great going there! ;) Love it!
Nice clearance
Cleared for takeoff by your first name you rockstar! I've only ever had that happen when I was the sole aircraft taking off after an aircraft had landed and exited active runway
That was SICK! Controller calling you by your name...cool.
Awesome Job Matt! SUPASTAR!!
I missed fun n sun this year :( really sad. glad you got to go.
Doing the Keys on the deck -- best ever.
Matt actually smiles!!!
Awesome!
Matt must be the next name for a Bonanza variant. ✈️
You were in my neck of the woods! I go to SSI all the time from Savannah!
Awesome! Would love to go on a flight with you sometime.
Hey matt, I discovered your videos when I came across your Dc3 journey and absolutely love your videos, been hooked ever since, was wondering if you'd ever come down to NZ (New Zealand) would be awesome to meet you and chat! Want to go back and try to get my wings now.
Cheers Ian!
I need to get back in a plane. Great video.
Am following you Matt, have bought a Cessna P210N and I'm going to explore Australasia from the air.....!
Ahh Tampa ATC and the ROG-AHHH guy. Some things never change.
That looks like some great weekend! haha
Hi Matt,
Keep up the good work! Great videos! Regards from your no 1 fan from Amsterdam. You should fly to Schiphol Airport one time, EHAM.
LOL hearing planes from the school I teach at at DeLand while your on CTAF for ZPH. too many airports that use the same frequency here in florida
Malcom Mckinnion is an awesome little spot on the St Simons. I sometimes work in that fire station by the airport and frequent Southern Soul Bbq.
Heck... I'm still thinking about that CHOCOLATE DIPPED Key Lime Pie....
must be an acquired taste
In the clip of the blue angels air show my cousin is the #1 jet. He served in the navy for just over 20 years and then retired but 4 days before the retirement he got called to the blue angels since the old nummber 1 jet Tom Frocsh retired.
Nikko Wings was there too. He was talking about airport restaurants too ... I commented about your love of food and restaurants at airports.
He said he wishes he could eat like you ... and after watching this .... even I wish I could eat like that... lol.
I enjoyed Sun N Fun got to see the Blue Angels perform
Nice work with the GoPro at about 10:00.
Awesome
Hi Matt, would just like to say I love your channel and adventures, I attempted to gain my Licence but sadly as Im sure you know it isnt a cheap hobby. I still have fun with my cesna on microsoft flight simulator LOL. all the best and be safe. regards Nick
When ATC has you by first name for Taxi and clearance...you've done something right hahah
Oh, Greetings from Alaska!
When is your Alaska/Russia video coming out?
I've been eating at the southern soul bbq, it was really good!
very cool...
5:10 looked like a few planes diverted to zephyr hills until the airport reopened. They all seemed to be starting up as you cruised by. But I think a lot of the airports close early because the larger number of older flyers who seem to think they are the exception to a rule. 9:40 really cool shots of the close formation aerobatic flying. 12:35 Key Weird? You haven't seen anything if you haven't gone to fantasy fest, then you'll see weird. ... Takeoff clearance was cool that your known (in a positive way) in the flying community.
I watched at 9:40 twice, and again now that I found this post. That must have been unreal. Sure looked it.
It still blows me away that 80 year old DC-3's are still flying.
Didn’t realize Lakeland had stuff going on that day!
Considering the state of poverty and deprivation in the world, I hope you guys appreciate the wonderful advantages you have. Dear heaven, at your age to be able to o what you do. Incredible
“Squawk 7775”. Wow! Never thought I would see those numbers in an ATC assigned squawk code.
Cool to see Aviation101 in the background there just chilling.
The freaking life!!!
Matt = your life is ridiculously amazing
When you're done in the keys, fly up to Ft Myers, so I can buy u a drink!
"Everybody knows this guy!" ahahah
Hey @Matt, In Key West, what restaurant did you go to?
TBM was Stevo flying . I follow both you guys. Great video but you definitely have some good time in the DC-3 . Thanks for the ride.
Sure didn't look like Steveo to me
It was not Stevo.
Starting the TBM...do not bring the fuel on at 15%...wait for max rotation before you bring the fuel lever to RUN! Why? Because then you will have a cooler engine start temperature (ITT) which helps prolong the life of the engine.
Sounds about as hectic as Oshkosh :)
Matt, there is this thing called "the internet" now. With it you can find out all sorts of cool stuff...like the hours of operation of a restaurant...and with an app called hotels.com you can make hotel reservations. It's so cool! Using "the internet" means you don't have to go around "winging it" all the time. Just some friendly advice for you, man ;-)
Lol I'd actually looked online earlier that day and everything showed availability so figured I'd wait until we actually got there (never like to *have* to be somewhere), but then they were sold out. We survived on Waffle House instead.
Waffle House - one on every corner in Florida, it seems. Ought to be the official state restaurant. (Oh, and forgot to mention...great video!)
This was back in the spring, right?
Too bad I could only hit "Like" once!
I wish the dc-3 was still in production
14:50 is that a Dept. of Prisons plane?
Matt is starting a foodie review channel, he is torn between two hobbies food and flying.
how many years have you been flying ?
I think you were enjoying the Aeroshell ride a little too much. ;)
D'aheq wuzat!?
I would've landed on the taxi-way just to get out of the controllers voice path🤣🤣🤣
Hello Matt
I alway enjoy your flying adventures: keep them coming! ;)
Is there any way you can better mix the sound tracks, especially the radio chatter sometimes get so noisy I cannot get what you're saying: actually is a bit annoying...
Which B-17 was that? Is it still with us?
It wouldn't be an MG vid without lots of food in it.
I get a whole lot of doubt from family members regarding Private flying. I don’t know what to say 😐 am willing to learn as I already have been increasing my aviation knowledge. In the west palm beach area and I Plan to enter flight school.
Epic! Key Weird. Lolz. 👍💯
Was that b17 909?
How do you make sure that you have enough battery life for the camera you mount on your wing tip? I assume you don't film the whole flight? I'd assume that the camera will only have power for up to two hours and some of your flights are way longer than that.
probably controlled by Bluetooth or wifi with his phone
Not sure the TBM 900 was flying legal altitude over the water :) IMO that was waayyy below 100 Ft :p
You got to fly the DC3 with my friend Dan.
Instantly recognized him from the flightchops video. He's a real character and should have his own channel!
