The Buddha once said that if you hear a teaching that conforms to the Dharma, it can be considered a teaching of the Buddha. Whether or not it literally conforms to the original Pāli, I have always found the phrase “setting aside grief and covetousness for the world” to be lovely, poetic, simple, and profound. I am not sure why Ajahn Brahm has a problem with it. He is creating conflict and controversy where none needs to exist. After listening to hundreds and perhaps thousands of his talks, I have decided not to listen to them anymore. He is too enamored of impromptu talks at the expense of giving a useful and helpful teaching. He just tells the same stories, and he takes too many liberties with the Dharma. I wonder if Ajahn Chah or the Buddha were here today, what they would think of some of the things he says.
Thank you Ajahn Brahm for this guided meditation. It was very good. I like this new method more silence 🙏
