I guess I don’t understand why you interpreted that the movie is condoning those who might or might have not been rightfully “cancelled”. Whether or not Paul is actually capable of performing those heinous acts in the dreams, I’d still argue the character is not necessarily a good person even before these events in the film occurred. At least morally promiscuous, especially with nearly cheating on his partner when he does get famous. In fact before he appears in people’s dreams Paul goes out of his way to meet up with an ex girlfriend, and actually flirts with her in front of his wife lol.
Now granted does this automatically mean Paul is a horrible human being, not necessarily. But it does get you thinking on how your actions affect other people and how you choose to handle said situations. I honestly interpret Paul to be a pretty pathetic guy especially with how everything goes down he cares only how the world sees him but not his family. Especially when his wife even gives him the chance to patch things up with her and Paul still refuses and opts to take the cowards way out. Those are his choices, only thing that’s for certain is the “canceling” brought out his true colors.
Feel free to elaborate further on your thoughts and disagree with me, I just wasn’t fully convinced by your argument. Seemed a little too dismissive.

I feel like you’re interpreting my critiques as an endorsement of who he is as a person. I’m not. I never said he’s a good person. I never said he was even decent. He is pathetic, clearly by design. And he does some sketchy shit as you mentioned. But none of that is what he’s “cancelled” for.
He’s “cancelled” for something the movie explicitly states he has no control over. And since this movie is also working as a satire of internet culture and internet backlash by proxy, that detail matters. If the backlash came from his behavior towards the women you mention, that would be a different story. Because it would be a direct result of his actions and then the discussion would be “did the backlash fit the crime in the court of public opinion?” But it’s not. It’s from something he’s not (at least directly) responsible for. And that’s where the satire falls apart.
Because when you make the reason for the backlash something that isn’t actually real, then you’re implying that the backlash you’re satirizing is all based on things that aren’t real. And that’s a dangerous precedent to set. And it’s also primarily what I was talking about.
