This is the most underrated song in Eurovision 2022 hands down. How did it only get two points!? The guy is like a wolf howling in the night, his voice is beautiful and his high notes are just amazing! He should had been at least 5th in my opinion.
I think he hits those powerful notes like a damn legend. For me it's whenever he's NOT doing power notes that it gets a bit iffy when live. But I agree, 2 points is just not representative of what he can do with his voice.
Only those who went through similar childhood experiences can truly understand the meaning of this beautiful song. It was Sheldon's dream to perform at Eurovision and it doesn't matter he only got 2 points from the general public. What a voice, what a song, what a performance! Australia, you got our attention
It might have just been a shitty year for Eurovision..? Pre-covid, I was OBSESSED with Eurovision !! And then, after two years of some pretty brutal lockdowns, I had completely forgotten about it and didn't even realise Sheldon was competing 😳😳
When he said "You're told to play, but you're not the same as the other kids playing the same game." I started crying and couldn't stop until the end. As a neurodivergent person myself, it is very difficult to find a song that perfectly represents what it feels like to grow up and live with it. This song represents not only me but also my friends and most people like me! My mother also teared up and actually voted for him because "He gets it, and he is right! You're not the same, and that is fine!". I also cried when everyone started cheering for him when he scored so low because it shows that the song is correct in its message and that it actually got across. So no matter his final result, he did a phenomenal job! After posting this comment I saw that many other Austic/ Neurovergent people in the comments felt the exact same with me. This makes me so happy!
Totally agree. I instantly knew it was about us neurodivergent/autistic people. I related to the lyrics and looked up on the internet to check if Sheldon was autistic, too. I found very little information, though.. PS: I voted for him at the finale..
@@luizabuliga6895 I find the people on this spectrum to be so kind, and honest. Yes, Sheldon had many interviews stating he came from a religious background with his parents praying that Sheldon will be okay after diagnosing at 6,9 and 13 that he was autistic and wouldn’t be able to do much. But he changed the mindset that he’s not the same and not let that or anyone dictate him what he can or can’t do. Additionally, setting the goal to live his eurovision dream to perform here in Turin just makes him all that more awe-inspiring. He is a light worker and an angel in my eyes 🌸😊💕
I'm an autistic person, too, and I absolutely agree with you. I 'm so thankful for this song and I've listened to it again and again. I’ve already written songs of my own about my autism and I think it can be a great way to communicate.

The moment he took his crown off, I am shocked, had goosebumps. One of the best vocal entries of this year. SO POWERFUL AND ICONIC.
Songs with deep meanings get a few points. I‘m so sad for Sheldon. It was his dream to perform on Eurovision and he only got 2 points from the public. But you have a new fan from Germany at least. The Eurovision winners will also be forgotten after 2 days. But you will be the winner of my Heart. Hats off to this amazing performance!!
@@monkeymuncher2 it's because it's eurovision. And Australia is not a European country. And people don't vote for the song, they vote for the country.
every day I go to listen to this wonderful performance and every time goosebumps! one thing surprises me… how did the audience rate this performance so badly?! it's incredible! this voice is amazing!
@@davidholmgren8156 sorry but that’s got to be the weirdest comment I’ve ever read. Eurovision has always been a politically charged, comical, light entertainment show. I would never take it as a serious song contest, hence it is pretty normal that Sheldon, his song and his performance didn’t get the points they deserved.
Lyrics: I was told at six years old They'd avoid me if my heart was cold Found it hard to talk and speak my mind They never liked the things that I would like 'Cause you're told to play but you're not the same As the other kids playing the same games Try to jump on in but they push away So far away I'm not the same, no I'm not the same, no Years went by, I tried and tried My father asked me if today I smiled I said, "Yes, I did", but that's a lie Oh, I always tell those lies Then you run and hide, hide the break inside 'Til you realize that the light shines bright Through those, oh, who broke inside I'm not the same, no I'm not the same, no I'm not the same, no I'm not the same, no 'Cause you never want to be the kind of person Who can't work it for those ones who can not word it 'Cause you've been the kind of person who felt this pain Oh, yeah, I felt this pain So you go and leave the pain and find another way To make yourself another game, maybe one for all to play 'Cause it's not just me who's not the same, we're not the same We're not the same, no We're not the same, no We're not the same, no We're not the same, no
the only performance that gave me goosebumps in the eurovision22 was this one. i'm so happy for Ukraine but my winner is definitely Australia. his voice, stage, outfit and the message..everything was just perfect. Sheldon sang with pure emotions and i felt it with my heart. congrats Sheldon!!! so much love from Turkey
Blimey, we thought it was terrible...repeatedly shouting "we're not the same" untunefully 😮 Appeared on Australia's Got Talent, The Voice twice...seems OTT desperate
That's it. I am done with Europe. 2 points from public. No, just no. This is unbelievable, unheard of. Sheldon, you are a gem. We love you. I don't know what just happened.
He did get 2 points from the public but the hosts (eg : mika) did give him a comment and clapped for effort even tho he didn't get much from the public its probably a big step being in the grand final you can see him getting emotional in 2:24 I think (Love u sheldon♥️♥️♥️
This is actually a winner song and a winner performance. I just don't understand why Europeans didn't give him more recognition. In my opinion Sheldon's perfomance was the climax of ESC Grand Finals.
@@DaniLore but stunning nonetheless, definitely deserved more than 2 points, but thats eurovision I guess and Australia should probably be glad we can compete to begin with.
@@dusty4502I agree. I noticed that Australia always gets less votes in the televotes than the juries. Many times, they just outright flop hard in the televotes (this and 2017), and even lose their potential win because of low televotes (2016).
This is my all-time fave Eurovision song, simply because Sheldon mentions being diagnosed with Autism at 6 years old and I was diagnosed at that age while also struggling with talking (with me being mute as well,) this song means the world to me and I'm so sad the public at the time didn't realise how meaningful and beautiful the song was and always will be... Sheldon, from a fellow Aspie, thank you so much for this song, you have no idea how much it means to the community, I rarely cry at songs but this one gets me and the symbolism of this performance is breath-taking!
This voice is talking for all autistic people and parents who are living with autistic children. For me personally is this wining song. God bless You! BR., from Slovenia 🇸🇮🇸🇮👌👌
I felt like crying when I heard he only got 2 points.. I gave all my 12 votes for him. He didn't deserve something like this. I'm so dissapointed of the public voting.. :/
This is actual one of the best. I'm sorry it was given only 2 points from the public. It's completely beautiful. I' going to listen this more times Good luck with your career Love from Portugal🇵🇹
When the songs finished, I told my family watching that it was going to be between Germany, Australia and Ukraine. Germany and Australia to me had the best songs on the night, while I anticipated there to be some "pity voting" for Ukraine to show support for the situation they are in. The fact that the jury voting and public voting are so out of sync, I mean, why on earth did Germany not get a single vote from the Jury voting?! And then 6 in total from the public? Meanwhile, Sheldon gets 123 votes from the jury, putting him in the top 10, and then gets *two* votes. That is beyond dumb. I'm not salty about the fact Ukraine won and all, but their song was nowhere near the quality of Sheldon's was. He should have scored a lot more than he did, and that is coming from a Brit who hated the UK entry, and is seriously confused as to how we came second.
It’s literally one of the best Eurovision performances I’ve ever seen. It was dramatic, passionate, GORGEOUSLY sang and the fact that it got so few votes is crazy. I’m still so mad because of it
I cried during the entire song. I had just gotten my ASD diagnosis the week before, at 27, and I felt every single one of those lyrics. I was treated as something different. The other kids didn't like me, and I lied about beeing OK, because I didn't want my parents to be sad. I know these feeling far to well, I know the pain, the isolating feeling, the mask you wear to please others, the feeling of not knowing who you are, because that is someone society deems weird and wrong. And having someone who represent us, and beeing a voice for us, for the whole world to see and hear, that means more than others will ever understand.
I didn't watch every performance but this one really spoke and gave emotions to me , Honestly, would not be surprised if it won. It's the only ballad that i liked
Sadly we only got 2 points from the public but we did have 100 points before that. The sad thing is that once we got the 2 point sthere was no chance of winning
@@SoTiredOfCryingMyselfToSleep especially after Ukraine got 400 points and jumped to 1st from I don't remember which place . He was choking with raw emotion, so he arranged his song. And my god, he nailed it. I had chills, I had goosebumps. He did it, he really did it. Wow So so proud of him ❤
Hi Sheldon, thank you so much for singing this powerful song about your experiences of Autism and taking off your mask in the song, 'masking' being such a key part of living with Autism. I also, like you, have Asperger's an Autism Spectrum Disorder, and I found your song and willingness to sing about your experiences so powerfully in this huge stage very inspiring. I was disappointed though that Graham Norton the person doing the links in the UK did not explain what your song was about, so I apologise on behalf of the UK for this. It was a missed opportunity. Huge congratulations to you and Australia for supporting your very important song. Thank you for inspiring song and willingness to share your story. It will help many people who are struggling with the same reactions of other people who do not understand how our minds work differently. People with Aspergers and Autism are very straight forward, honest and kind people and very inclusive. Be proud! Take care and a big hug of thanks to you
ah i wondered why British friends were shocked when I said he'd been non verbal. That is disappointing (Australia has it's own commentators so we, thank goodness didn't hear Graham Norton).
Fully agree with you. I have autism as well, so this song really hits home for me. Sad that Graham didn't mention the backstory behind this, luckily I knew about this song, so I understood it.
In Italy, they also failed to mention that the song was about autism and that Sheldon was autistic himself. I found very little information online, but while listening I immediately related to the song and knew what it was about. The mask he was wearing on stage also helped identifying the theme of the song. It really was a missed opportunity. They mentioned the fact that Sheldon was gay and made it seem as the diversity he was talking about was linked to that..
@@luizabuliga6895 that is really disappointing. Though a few of the major eurovision sites made it seem that way too - one site going as far as saying he should take off the mask and make eye contact. Sheldon himself was very open about it being about his autism. And of course those of us on the spectrum knew immediately. I think maybe he was so friendly and outgoing that he didn't fit the stereo type.
Sorry to hear that Italy commentator also didn't mention it. Yes you are all right, there is some onfo on line about the song being about his Autism, but not so much, and others that mention that it is about him being gay. I knew the song was about Autism in advance as I had seen an article on this before the event and hence I specifically made sure I was watching when he came on and then when seeing him sing it was also so clear that this was what it was about. You would have thought that the commentators should have known and should have cared and known how important this song would be for many people, particularly those living with the condition. I hope that he sees all the lovely comments on this site who loved and valued his song. It was really sad the public vote was so low, as he deserved so much more for what he did. It was a stunning and very important song. Thank you Sheldon.
This song is so underrated, Sheldon deserved so much more. Beautiful message, stunning outfit and lets not forget the voice, emotion and performance just amazing. Love from Romania!
I am from Europe and his performance got very intense starting from minute 2 it was epic, raw power, anger and also catharsis. I also saw that it was his dream to be there and it was seen in the music. I think it didnt get the votes because people that usually watch Eurovision are well, different and there are more upbeat songs in general and wouldnt necesary vote for this song compared with others, BUT, this performance will stay through the ages and even if he didnt get recognition now it will gather momentum. When he starts talking its epic and the howling at the moon is also great, dont worry lots of people in Europe and worldwide appreciate this song
I’ve listened to this 3 times in a row this morning here from Australia. It will be echoing in my head all day. Such a beautiful song. Such a powerful performance.
For me in sweden its night. This song makes me comfortable, I love his performance and his comforting voice. I'm gonna have a good sleep tonight. I hope you'll have a good day :)
I usually don't prefer ballads, but this one hits hard! Sheldon has such a powerful and beautiful voice. The costume was unique. Touching lyrics with an important message. My dear little brother is on the spectrum, so I immediately felt the song. I voted for this multiple times from Finland, both in semi final and final. I still couldn't believe that the public didn't give them enough recognition. Unfortunately, the abundance of ballads sung by males might have decreased their voting results since it is more difficult to differentiate from other ballads. However, Sheldon is my personal winner 👑🤍
Agreed with the last part. I also think it's hard to follow the meaning of the lyrics if you're just watching the entire show from home, especially the chunks in which he lowers his voice to a whisper.
Id rather hear a cat being strangled. Love the studio version, but wtf is this? He's going through puberty 10 times throughout this measly performance.
He's downright mesmerizing and I know I could listen to him endlessly. The fact that he took such a low position is unbelievable and I cannot accept it. He has an unearthly voice and he given a unique performence so the 2 points he received broke my heart..
this is the Eurovision 2022 winner for me 🏆 wonderful, extraordinary performance .. voice, the whole scenery - amazing. in my opinion that should have won - greetings from Poland 🇵🇱❤️
This song is so underrated! You can hear the pure emotion in the song, and how much the lyrics mean to him. I wish him all the best in the future and hope more of his songs become famous.
I got really really sad when the audience gave this song so few points... They didn't deserve that AT ALL. The guy's voice is awesome, probably among the three best voices in the competition! The lyrics are very touching and real, and the performance was great. Really unfair, you were one of my favourites! Australia deserved better! ❤️
I liked this song and voice, but also from UK and Serbia, so beautiful todo. However, after known why was the mask and understand the words, I am not the only one who couldn't stop crying, more and more we are trying that our children couldn't live without that mask, how many times our children have lied us only to don't see us sad. I can't stop to listen this song, so nice and poignant
My dad voted for it, we actually found out what the song was about before we listened to it as my mother saw an article about it and then when I heard it I couldn't speak because of how connected I was to it being autistic and my dad voted for it to support it but yes it is very unfortunate that it did not do that well, my mother said that it is probably because people don't understand because there is so much meaning in it like when they take off their mask, amazing.
No sorry, this guy might be a good singer, but the song? It's was just 3 minutes straight of howling and crying. Australia had way better songs the last few years and were always among the top 10. So just because the votes are low this time, no reason for disappointment. Germany had also a good entry and is last.
I adore this masterpiece, the strongest vocal in this Eurovision for me, and the performance is so emotional! Should've received much more points. Much love to Australia from Russia❤🇦🇺 Sheldon you're the best! 😊
You can feel his pain.. I cried so hard when he performed, those kinda people have been through abuse, domestic violence, not being heard or not being able to speak.. He is such a pure soul and you can feel it! The lyrics is absolutely well written and he was my ultimate favourite this year.. I was the only one who actually voted for him, that is so sad 😭
No , you were not the only one who voted for him , many people did , I was one of them. You need to be in the top 10 of a country to get votes. You need thousands of votes to get at least 1 point+Only Aserbaijan gave him points because he was in their top 10.
Your stage performance, stage action, meaning of your song, suit and the power in your voice and emotion was SO AMAZING! you are the true winner to me and always will be of 2022. Love from Finland 🇫🇮
I've got autism (but not ADHD) and I can relate as well. This person made a masterpiece. Those other songs are great too (all of them are) but they're not gonna be as relatable to me as this song.
On behalf of Australia and Sheldon, I thank Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 for giving us 2 points while the rest of Europe totally snubs us. And also the juries that recognised Sheldon's performance.
That was a master class performance, just wow! He has soo good and powerful voice. His charisma on stage was just on point. Greetings and so much love from Poland! 🇵🇱🇦🇺
2 points? How???? The best singer/ artist I've heard in years, and I really listen to music a lot from all over. I thought it was unfair, I think many countries would have voted for their neighbouring countries, many still don't like Australia competiting in Eurovision

We need to get this to at least 1 million views! I've been a fan of Sheldon's for a long time now. I randomly found him on RUclips from a 'The Voice' video. Ever since then I've fallen in love with how he sings and the way he dresses. He absolutely deserves all the support he gets and I'll always stand by his side and fight for him. This song deserves so much more recognition for how amazing it is!
imo the most underated male artist of this year. 2 points from the public!??!?! Ballads dont normally play in supermarkets but my local one this morning played this song.
He was unbelievable and should've gotten better than 15th. He came 2nd in the semi final but many countries missed out on points since Ukraine had 439 points. Great job tho Sheldon!!!!
He came second in semifinal 2 because of the jury, he was only at place 9 in semifinal 2 when it comes to public votes , sadly he got never great support from the people in Europe
I just have to say that I remembered Sheldon's name and I thought 'Hey, I know this guy!'. And I just couldn't say where from. I finally realised that I watched his complete 'The voice' journey! Back then I absolutly loved him! Now I just love him even more. Sheldon if you ever were to read this. I remember you saying how much Boy George was your icon, I remember you saying you wanted to stand on the eurovision stage. I just want you to know, you are an icon to me, your journey, your life story. It motivates me and I absolutly love your music. You are part of Eurovision history now and I can't wait to see what else you do next. Thank you so much for coming to Eurovision and for making me find you again.
Sheldon Riley Hernandez you are just great, does not matter what the tele-voting said. You touched me to tears, great musical quality, great voice, great message and great connection with the public. You convey emotions perfectly. You got the recognition of great artists like Laura Pausini. You have a great future!
I am shocked on how little point this got! You could hear the power and passion from his performance, I really connected with this song ... Even if you didn't win you should be proud of what was achieved today, a place on the final and a masterpiece of a performance ❤️

When the conductors announced that the public gave him only 2 points, Laura Pausini made a jaw drop and instantly gave them props (until that, she she never made a personal comment about someone’s performance) This should be your personal victory, Sheldon. Great performance, great song, absurd rank in my opinion. Should’ve been top 5 to say the least.
Incredible performance. You could really feel what the song meant to him. Tough to push through being choked up by the emotion and still hit those notes at the end too. I thought it was truly brilliant. One heck of a performance and it deserved a lot more recognition.
I remember when this was first broadcasted and feeling the lyrics so much, as someone on the spectrum along with Sheldon. I was left out most of my primary school years, even half the teachers treated me differently. Autism is quite a rollercoaster, there are highs and lows. I also love how he had a mask on at the beginning to represent the masking side of it. To those out there was autism and other special needs, you rock 💜
I cried like a baby when this came on. This song was raw, emotional and POWERFUL. I have autism as well and "not the same as the other kids playing the same game" resonated with me. A truly deeply moving song indeed. I even used up half my votes on him. So for two televote points, Europe, you can stick it!

Well done Sheldon. As someone from Australia who also identifies as an Aspie (Asperger’s), This song says exactly what all within the Autistic spectrum had dealt with. From ‘Masking’ to thinking differently than neurotypical. This song is a voice for the Neurodiverse, and I want to thank you Sheldon for singing this masterpiece.

@@Jimbob1337 I agree

This should be your personal victory, Sheldon.

Great job Sheldon! You did us Aussies so proud. I saw Sheldon in concert in Dec in Melbourne and was absolutely blown away by his ability. He is an incredibly gifted singer and performer. His artistic vision surpasses anything I have seen in YEARS!
The world is at Sheldon's feet.

ICONIC performance mate! I TEARED UP! You had my vote
WE ARE NOT THE SAME
everyone sees the emotion in his eyes. should have been in the top 10. definitely. what a story, almost/crying when youre at eurovision, is really something that shows a possible winner.
In my opinion, this should have been the winner song. The depth of his voice, the lyrics, it's pure art. Underrated
This song deserved so much better!
It‘s incredibly brave to tell your story in a song and as many people have said before: the vocals are amazing 🥺 // germany
An emotional performance dignify to listen .Go Sheldon .Love From Spain 🇪🇦❤🇦🇺
I think his vocal performance was a bit stronger in the semi final, but all those emotions he put into his performance in the final were just phenomenal. It was like you could feel everything he was feeling through the tv. This is by far my favorite song from this year
Amazing song. The text is very touching and moving. Sheldon's voice is simply superlative
My number one and winner this year nobody cant Chance my opinion. I feel the Massage. And lived a really similar way like sheldon. So my number one.
