As a 41 year old bodyboarder I now get my kicks from watching bodyboarding videos as i damaged my back have not ridden a wave for 6 years! It sucks and i miss the rush of the green room!
Me too. I broke my back and neck and can't surf anymore. I rode a short board and totally ripped for 30 years. I surfed Trestles and Newport beach mostly. Traveled all over central America and now I just bodyboard. It's cool though. At least I have that. I really miss standing tall in the barrel but I have good memories of what I was fortunate to enjoy. I hope you have many good waves for the rest of your days. 🤙😁
woah cracks me up when you see sky scrapers in the background cause that means theres some kooks up there looking at those gnarly arse waves thinking there just another wave hahaha
@theskatelate Because all of the rocks underneath the surface of the wave, it creates more pressure on the wave causing it to be really thick and heavy as it is very shallow
have you seen the bodyboarders at Teahupoo?? They'll drop 30 ft into two foot of water I surf and sponge and love them both to death. It's not about the board but the wave and the ride!
Awesome wave. Were i come from people don't discriminate against you if you are surfer or bodyboarder or any other type of wave rider. We respect all wave riders that rip in there sport or charge any type of wave and is not afraid to go big on any section. That is how you earn respect in the water. Not like wanna bee's that cant ride waves that whants to put there 2 cents on youtube. Really sad.
boogieboarding is easy..... but bodyboarding is a whole different kinda sport.you see the little kids out boogieboarding. look up jeff hubbard, ryan hardy, dave winchester, pierre louis costes, ben player and you will se why bodyboarding isn't easy
you're spot on. those boards just aren't big enough to go fast enough. i agree the very best of them ride some of the more powerful waves, like the ones you listed before cyclops and what not, but they are a very small minority who do that
@fantafan3 it's a break in sao paulo in brasil and if you don't understand what they are saying go on google translate and convert from portuguese to english and you will understand all they say.
Beautiful, but where is this? I can't go there, because I use no fins or boards, just my old body. Too many boulders! I like your video, interesting marine environment.
the only part??? i dont know many breaks that surfers go to that bodyboarders dont. as far as heavy powerful waves.. look at cyclops, the right, teahupoo, shipsterns, shark island, wiamea.. dude i could keep going. cyclops and the right were discovered by bodyboarders as well.
the Hawaiians used the original bodyboard "paipo" dropping to to the water from their canoes riding the waves into the shore and using the board as a shield too defend their islands, theres nothing stupid about body boards its a part of surfing history and more importantly hawaii culture
Haha your comment should read -'No SHOREBREAK to big, no SHOREBREAK drop to hard'. How many boogers do you see out at massive waimea (not the shorey), jaws, mavericks, shipsterns, cortez bank..the list goes on. You guys ride a tiny piece of foam and you just skip and bounce down the face of big waves then dont have enough rail dig to make the bottom turn. It is physically impossible for you to ride most genuine big waves. Stick to the ledges and shoredumps because thats were BBs belong.
it is looked at as easy because it is easier to ride a wave, just as snowboarding is easier then skiing to simply go down the mountain. the guys at the top though are all just as good as each other. ryan hardy and sean virtue kill it
@SD2OCsponger my life is about fun. i am a sponsored surfer, base jumper and skydiver. i just have a pet hate about that call about waves being unsurfable. for the record i am one of the few decent surfers i know that don't drop in on lids as i appreciate anyone that wants to get kegged. i still think you should stand up, but i don't really care that much. i just started getting personal when you did
fair enough biggest. but most powerful? bodyboarders take just as, if not heavier and gnarlier waves. and the only thing holding the people back from surfing the biggest waves (although mike stewart surfs jaws lots) is speed.
And i ride all kinds of boards including fish, shortboards guns sometimes a lid. Cant see how you could surf that well on a shortboard. Sucky takeoff, outrun the 2 second tube, do WHAT? on the end? a carve on the fat wall? nup. booger time.
This is a wave suited to booger only. Any standup ripping into boogers here wouldnt take off on this nor surf it well. its only suited to boogers and maybe bodysurfers.
Good you are still young. Learn to surf now. Trust me you will regret it in the future if you dont. Anyone can bb at anytime. Actually being able to surf to a competent level is much more of an acomplishment.
@tylersurf4life13 Maybe on the right day it's surfable. But the day in this clip looks to be unsurfable. Maybe a few stand ups could make it if they are freakishly limber, but not many.
To be honest I don't get bodyboarding. It seems so stupid when you know how to stand. And then I see vids like this and realize how big these guys balls are!!!
Wowww !!!! The dream !!!!!!!
Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't. ~ Eleanor Roosevelt.
Cyclops and shipsterns had a baby
Prod Death, so right m8
Wild wave. Respect.

As a surfer I have to say that the barrel at :49 and :50 was the coolest liitle cover up I've ever seen.

Man of Water I
it tripped me out so much when i saw the skyscrapers
Epic video bro! You got me fired up for a surf :)
woah cracks me up when you see sky scrapers in the background cause that means theres some kooks up there looking at those gnarly arse waves thinking there just another wave hahaha

AWESOME FOOTAGE WELL DONE THANKS HEAPS 👍👍
Heavy waves
I own both a sponge and a surfboard, I enjoy both at the right times :) the haters are missing out on great pit time
Thats a cool wave, no leash this guy is nuts.
That is heavy, nice :-)
killer song
I love bodyboarding. When a wave is "unsurfable", the bodyboaders still ride.
right back at ya
What an interesting wave

in australia the average bodyboarder rides 10x the heavy slabs of a average surfer.. most slabs are dominated by bodyboarders..
@fantafan3 it's a break in sao paulo in brasil and if you don't understand what they are saying go on google translate and convert from portuguese to english and you will understand all they say.
this looks so much fun
Muito Foda, Abinho ... é isso aí, sempre quebrando ! Orgulho de surfar contigo às vezes ! hehehe
Great video. enjoyed.
and also when they do ride waves like teahupoo, they take off right at the end on the should because they can't get enough speed to go deep

Too many boulders!
I like your video, interesting marine environment.
'and try to flip'. but beside that, i surf now, i sold sponge and started surfing again, so if anything, your having a go at one of your own.
the biggest and most powerful waves are over 50ft tall now getting close to 100ft and no boogieboarders surf them
the only part??? i dont know many breaks that surfers go to that bodyboarders dont. as far as heavy powerful waves.. look at cyclops, the right, teahupoo, shipsterns, shark island, wiamea.. dude i could keep going. cyclops and the right were discovered by bodyboarders as well.
