I just ordered the product with your link. Fingers crossed. I have been agonizing over whether to toss album covers for a great collection of 200 albums.
Thank you! I just ordered the ozone generator (used your link in the comments). The grommets were a bit expensive though. Do you think I could duct tape this into the hole? Would it keep the ozone in?
Any recommendation on brand name for the ozone generator...looked at a few that were much more expensive(more for a room with no tube) or looked to be focused on water..thanks
Thanks for this video! I am going to try this.............this video has been up three years and nobody commented on the first pressing UMMAGUMMA or........the peeled original Butcher cover?!!! Holy Moses! I hope you framed it! (If you are bored of it let me know).
Will this work to get cat pee smell out of books? They were not hit directly, they were in a moving box but the pee went through the box and the books were slightly damp, but not soaked.
Could a higher volume generator be used to blow into a plenum from which a manifold of PVC pipes feed several larger containers at one time? I would do it outside so the ozone can vent into the atmosphere. The idea of doing 20 albums at a time would take a lot of time, even for a modest collection. Wouldn't a higher concentration be faster and more effective, as long as it it done safely?
The generator actually has a fan. That means it's constantly pumping air into the bin, and most of the ozone will actually come out to the room. If you want ozone to be contained, you should put the generator *inside* the bin.
Do not put the generator in the bin. The generator relies on "normal" air to take a regular O2 molecule and converts it to an O3 molecule . If you stick in the bin, it will greatly reduce the rate of O3 generation. Furthermore, O3 is heavier so it will start pushing out the normal air first. Yes, it will push O3 into the room, but that's exactly why I stated you should leave the room.
I hate the smell of ozone but I might try this for VHS covers. I don't buy old records that smell because they're usually in bad condition otherwise as well, and I like my records to be in good condition.
I recently purchased a large room sized ozone generator but haven’t used it yet. Do you think this would work if I put the books / albums in the same room that I will treat with the generator?
What about good old-fashioned airing out? like taking them spreading them out letting them get some fresh air or like a fan? I just inherited a few thousand and my basement now smells gross so I have an air purifier going and I just point it at a different stack periodically
I can see why baking soda wouldn’t work it just absorbs the odor in the air but not anything about the order in the record paper where is ozone actually neutralizes the odor itself
Would this be safe with electronics? I have an iPad Magic Keyboard that just smells aweful and none of the usual recommendations are making a difference. It’s the felt parts that just hold on to every horrible odour. Also the back of the iPad smells rank. Not sure exposing an iPad to oxone is a good idea? Advice?
FYI that ozone can damage and kill plants, but I'm not sure how much there needs to be to do that. So be careful of any house plants if trying this indoors.

It is dangerous according to the epa. I wouldn’t use them where you will be spending time, but your method allows time to let it degrade so I’m all for trying this method. I found a portable battery powered one you can put in the bin, so no hose needed, do you think that would work? From epa: . The purpose of this document is to provide accurate information regarding the use of ozone-generating devices in indoor occupied spaces. This information is based on the most credible scientific evidence currently available. Some vendors suggest that these devices have been approved by the federal government for use in occupied spaces. To the contrary, NO agency of the federal government has approved these devices for use in occupied spaces. Because of these claims, and because ozone can cause health problems at high concentrations, several federal government agencies have worked in consultation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to produce this public information document.
Ozone is dangerous as you discovered. However, these small machines don't put out a lot, we are containing it mostly, and as I said in the video, I leave the room during and for an hour after letting it run.
I want to try. Old album where photos are on black construction paper type pages. Unfortunately I tossed the leather cover as I tried everything , it stank i had to move and didn't want to take smell with me. But. All the pages still smell. Trying to decide if I should take the photos off and put them in a new album.
Lol,that is a great album though because of the band. Wagner and Hunter and basically the rest of Alice Cooper's band starting with wcom to mt nightmare
I enjoyed the video and will try it depending on how expensive an ozone generator is. I love old things and certainly albums and this seems like a winning strategy to freshen them up. Why are commenters turning into bitchy old ladies. Thank you for the tip on the albums!
Once you stop enjoying music you start doing shit like that and there are no limits to taking care of the collection. While I'm sure this works, don't be slaves to your collection guys, I went through this myself. Peace.

Made an Ozone box for a Louis Vuitton bag with a must odor and it worked great!! Thanks so much!
Thanks for the detour, because this is something many of us have puzzled over. I too, tried the baking soda, and other things.
I just ordered the product with your link. Fingers crossed. I have been agonizing over whether to toss album covers for a great collection of 200 albums.
Use one of the handle holes and no hole in your lid for later use
I'm glad I stumbled across this before I tried those other methods. Looking forward to trying this method.
I subbed as soon as I saw the Lou Reed (RIP) album! (and Ummagumma!)
Great channel with straightforward delivery.
Thanks for the sub!
Great informative video👍🏿Thanks for the heads up Johnny
Thank you!!! I thought of a tent and ozone but this is so much more practical. I cannot thank you enough.
Thank you!
Thank you! I just ordered the ozone generator (used your link in the comments). The grommets were a bit expensive though. Do you think I could duct tape this into the hole? Would it keep the ozone in?
Duct tape should work just fine. There's always a little bit of leakage with the grommets so duct tape may have even less.
Any recommendation on brand name for the ozone generator...looked at a few that were much more expensive(more for a room with no tube) or looked to be focused on water..thanks

Will this work on old cardboard boxes that 90s toys come in? I have some woth the musty meldew smell
Good tips, im looking for a low-cost alternative ,with household ingredient I already have, any ideals?
I haven't had any luck with baking soda or odor absorbers.

@@ToolboxDIY So how long would it take for that ozon generator to fill that box to the rim if it were without the cover ?
I may have missed it, but could you give a link or at least size of the grommets? And I assume they’re rubber? Thanks!

Ok, OMG - Thank you!!!
If the portable ozone generator seems too expensive, can you just buy some of that ozone spray in a can?
I recently purchased a large room sized ozone generator but haven’t used it yet. Do you think this would work if I put the books / albums in the same room that I will treat with the generator?
Any comparable machine recommendations? The one here is restricted from shipping to CA.

I tried airing them out with a fan on them for days. Nadda.
Ill like to buy and use this method to eliminate odors from my vinyls, because living in Apt. think should be safe to use in my balcony.

Ozone oxidizes things quickly, so it's probably not a great idea to use this on electronics.

Isn’t ozone dangerous? They recalled those sharper image air purifiers because they were generating ozone.

I kinda like the smell, it takes me back to the 70's
You wouldn't have liked the smell I got rid of. Takes you back the 1470s and probably some form of moldy black lung!
@@ToolboxDIY that pesky moisture not good

You have a couple of comments that stink. Can you put them in your bin and turn the ozone generator on? I'd like to watch that video next.
On it.

No thanks... Nothing like the smell of old vinyl records ! 😄 I'd make a cologne from that scent if I could.
This is a very bad idea. Ozone is a noxious gas.
Five sentences is enough, not the eight minutes bla bla bla...
