Hi Angie, great questions! Unlike a fork, a bamboo whisk doesn’t scratch your chawan which in some cases can be an old and/or expensive bowl. A bamboo whisk also has more prongs and is more flexible than a standard kitchen whisk and this helps separate the matcha powder faster to help you achieve the desired end product faster. I also believe that when warm, the bamboo from the bamboo whisk also adds a slight woody aroma in the chawan - it’s not obvious but it’s there if you know what you’re looking for.
