I envy the creative freedom and dedicated personal space you two are curating together. I applaud you both for giving your best effort to get that couch situated in the corner, and Harriet, please don't feel too bad or that you're "making things worse" with your efforts on these things. You're learning, and with a genuine effort as a human being! It's so nice to see things progress with your projects and such, even if that means having to come back to the same thing later down the road. Life isn't linear! :')
Hi Harriet and Mauro, we are Sandra and Jan, we came across your video's and we love them 😀. We are Rock climbers and came quit often to that area and we loved the small villages and the beautiful scenery. When we watched the video's we dream of a live like yours in the country side and just do things to survive. We love your way of filming and sharing with others in a very natural way. We think you are getting along quite well and restoring your place for your selves. Keep going, greets Sandra and Jan 🙋🏻♀ 🙋♂
My husband and I took an early retirement and bought a place in the mountains of Puerto Rico. It is a concrete house built on an old coffee plantation. We are working on the land and house with a tight budget but have never been happier. Your videos inspire me. Thank you.
I would be happy doing that too. I miss having a partner that's interested! (Mine's an musician and salesman... Lovely chap, but not practical, and not interested. I've got an old farmhouse and outbuildings. Sigh)
Heads up, be careful with the "Silicone" caulking, silicone is not paintable, you can paint over it, but it will peel after some time. "Latex" caulking is normally used when it's going to be painted. Hope this helps, enjoying the videos..
to add to this: there are companies that will mix and sell you silicone caulk in any color! For this exact application where you're also going to paint it you can just use a tub of "wall filler" or quick drying light weight filler. It doesn't have to be silicone as a sealant as you said and the white colored wall filler is also much cheaper and easier to work with.
Thank you! It actually wasn't silicon, it was just called "sealant" and it can be painted -my bad. But now i've learned something about silicon, so thanks!
You’re doing so well, the kitchen is coming along nicely. If you do want to redo the floor without the bumps there are self-levelling floor screeds that, with some preparation, should cover that… and if not- older houses are meant to be a bit lumpy bumpy, that’s the charm 😅 Your motivation is inspiring!
You're both doing an amazing job on the land, and the house🏡and you're learning and gaining experience as you are going along. So well done! You should be so proud of yourselves.👏👍💗
You are both doing your damn best, trying to cope with the many maintenance jobs that are constantly cropping up. Be very proud of what you have achieved in so little time. Even the dogs lounging on the comfy new sofa agree that you are doing great !
Great update. Please don’t be so hard on yourselves. You are such hard workers, with it seems like endless tasks and chores and you need some down time to recharge now and again. Love the pizza oven and the results that look so yummy. I see kitties love the house you built them Harriet. Oona is so big now! Sorry if I spelled her name wrong. I love watching you build a life I can only dream of…I am very happy for you both to be living your dream.
Love what your both doing! What a great couple you are! Sofa looked lovely in its spot! How about some smaller vibrant ethnic throws to set it off and not cover completely! ❤
Hi Harriet & family 🐈🐶🐔🐐 came across your channel the other day (and so happy that I did 😊) and I've been binge watching ever since 🙈, me and my husband are moving from UK to Spain in the next couple of months and hoping to get a rural farm in the South / South-East (also will be a newbie farmer) - so your content is really inspiring for me and very insightful!! I really had no idea just how much the land sustains itself if cared for correctly, you literally don't let anything go to waste - which is amazing. When thinking of our future farm (probably selfishly 🙈) I was thinking of the more aesthetic/picturesque side of things, but seeing the reality of it has really put things into perspective and made me see the beauty of the land/farming in a completely different way. Keep up the amazing work and excited to see your upcoming adventures 🥰
Aww thanks for the lovely comment! That's so exciting about your upcoming move - best of luck with it, I am sure you will find the perfect place to live out your farming dreams!
See the half cup full not the half empty...You are doing just fine...I love how passionate you sound whenever you are about to start a new project, and the fact that you and your husband are doing everything is admirable...
I do think, you're doing your best and it is quite a lot, so it's great. My deepest respect! Your home is home to live in and not an add, thanks goodness! Wish you all the best!
Thank you for another wonderful episode of your life on the homestead. If not too much trouble, please share with us your knitting/crochet or spinning projects too. Thank you. 🌺❤
You're doing so wonderfully! I know that feeling of frustration, but if it helps, I'll also say that you make more progress than you think. I look forward to your videos every Sunday and they inspire me to do my own garden projects and to get my kids outside helping me with them (even if that's less efficient, ha). So maybe think of it as a ripple effect, where you only see that first wave of your work, but the outcomes you inspire in your viewers' gardens go on and on!
I'm so impressed by how you just DO stuff. And that it seems you get a job mostly finished (or at least the house stays liveable) within a not-huge amount of time. If I dealt with any of my walls (ultra crumbly plaster over straw, reeds, mud, some bricks), I tell myself it would be weeks, I'd make the place unlivable, I'd hate the job I did, and I might even not be able to complete it at all.... You just get on with it! I should take your example. Don't worry about the not perfect jobs, I feel it's really good to get things out of the way and "ok for now" so you can get on with the rest and maybe come back to it later. I have one room where I spent all weekend hand cutting the edges of carpet tiles rather than repair the concrete floor or even take off the skirting boards to make the tiles easier because I knew that would make a ton of work with the walls. I changed a light fitting, my housemate put new power outlets in and we chucked a couple of beanbags in and a couple of cupboards and the record player and now it's the "chill out lounge". All I wanted was to spend a weekend making it a useable room and hence dropping it to the bottom of the list of stuff to do. Your couch area looks great for now and you can come back to it later!
Hahah thanks, I appreciate it! I think this is sometimes my downfall too though - lack of planning and being too eager to just see something done rather than do it properly. I guess there's a balance! Your house sounds super interesting, by the way!
Great to see you guys again!!! You are such a hard worker Harriet, I love your herb garden. I didn't have much luck trimming my lilac back, I think I chopped off too much but it came back huge!
BRAVO, you made some good progress! Great job with the wall and sofa is perfect, covers it the space. You did what you could, and someday when you have 'nothing' to do, maybe can tackle it into perfection. BEautiful~Let It Be for now💗💚💛💜
It was a lovely video, in spite of the frustrations. I like the herb bed you did in the beginning. That gave me an idea for a similar sized bed I have and couldn't conceive a good plan for. Your home and land have a certain character and ambiance that is so very appealing. You're going to work thru all the difficulties and the end result will be something quite beautiful. I'm very much looking forward to seeing that process unfold. Stay positive. You're doing well. 🥰
I like your lavender bed.🥰😋 your kitchen roof is quite pretty. I am looking forward to the finished product. thank you for sharing your progress. I love your style and your land.
You guys are awesome & extremely hard working👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 You should be extremely proud of yourselves 🙌🏻🦋❤️ Be kind to yourselves 🦋🙏🏻 You are such an inspiration for all 🙌🏻🦋🇺🇸 PS I absolutely love your new basket to put your wood after you shop it up in smaller sizes!!😊
Always a joy tuning into your weekly progress on your homestead (no matter how big or small the task). Also - enjoy your new wood fire pizza oven and couch! (:
It is easy to see the progress that you are making. Life is always one step back and two forward. Mauro's new oven can bake bread to have with your salads!!
An interesting, varied mix this week. Mauro's pizza from your new oven looked so tasty and your joint project in removing the old wood store and creating a space for sofa and shelf is impressive on top of all the other necessary fixes you have managed this past week Harriet.
Have you seen the video of wood chopping in a old tire. You put the tire on a stump, fill it with wood and chop. The chopped wood stays in the tire so you don't have to keep bending down after each chop. Easier on your back. Edible acres website has a video.
Things are coming together little by little due to your hard work. Can't wait to see the kitchen cabinet filled out with all of the things you dezire. Keep up the good work and enjoy your lovely busy days together.
You are doing an amazing job! You inspire me, i have tons of things i need to get done on my house. But i just wanted to give you some encouragement. Really enjoy all your videos and i always learn a great deal and get ideas for how to do stuff around here. Thanks again and have a beautiful day!
Where do you buy your tools, do you have an "antique" mall, hardware or mail surplus, I keep wood and metal wedges to repair these when handles need replacement or tightening, I mix wood glue and fine oak dust, to ensure a nail will never come out.
Initially we bought tools from Leroy Merlin, which is a big chain of hardware/home-repair stores, but we've learned over time that their tools are not great quality. Now we have a better idea of what we're doing and what we need we are a lot more picky and try to buy from good brands. For axes and hand cutting tools I find Fiskars is really good. Stihl is good for power tools (gasoline) and Einhell have good battery powered tools. There's not a lot of antique markets or specialised hardware shops around our area, unfortunately.
You two should be very proud of your accomplishments, a couple more years and you’ll be the community’s experts. If you remember that the world is governed by Chaos, and no matter how much time you have it will never be done, be happy about little victories.
My experience with pumpkins has been that you want to elevate the pumpkin or lay them on a tarp whilst they grow to avoid damp from the ground, it also doesn't hurt to inspect them quite regularly and brush off or remove any pests that might want to have a nibble, though my experience is fairly limited as it is just from assisting and working in my Grandfather's vegetable garden.
Hi Harriet you make the work look so inspiring. I want to plant trees , lavande and groing my own vegetables too. Living in London but looking to leave maybe next year to my home country and try to find a piece of land that I can afford and doing something similar as you. Best wishes for you and Mauro.🥰
I love your pizza oven and bread baker, your pizzas look delicious too, maybe you could install it in the outer kitchen and make a chimney for it under a pergola for when it rains, anyway, it’s a great asset to your lovely kitchen your restoring, it’s gonna be beautiful. Love your patio garden your developing, you’re gonna love it. I think all your accomplishments last year and to date have been remarkable and please don’t cut yourselves short, it’s hard work, takes time and money, be kinder to yourself ❤. The couch gives you more entertainment setting and a very cozy and comfortable lounging area for those cold winter days, you’re gonna love it, especially the pups will. Hahaha 🎉❤ much love to all 🥰👏
You're achieving such amazing things and have forgotten that most of us can't do any of it. You rebuilt a floor and wall among many other things. I had to push myself to vacuum my floor and lost some plants I was growing to wild animals due to overestimating the wire barrier I built up. :P
Harriet and Maro, it’s great that a pizza oven can bring you guys such joy. Many a yummy pizza with all your vegetables will be delicious. And the pizza will go great with your wine.😁
New sofa area looks great and with a hand shelf, roof tiles looks more problematic gald it’s not me up there😊,love the new bed with lavender, thyme and Rosemary that’s gonna be lovely brushing past it and the smells wafting while you sit near by.xxx
Estupendo video Harriet y Mauro. Mauro.... vaya pizzas!!!
Buen trabajo
Yay! A fellow spinner, though your fleece looks much nicer than what we get around here (Extremadura). Hopefully you got some rain, we were promised rain but it really didn’t appear 😏
Love the new herb bed Harriet. I decided to follow you and edge my flower bed with big stones and it looks great! I love the idea of incorporating the tree into the table. Cant wait to see that happen. Take care and I look forward to your next video.
Awesome splitting going on there Damp wet wood will clog the chimney Hatchet is kool looks like a tomohok 🤣 use the tyre put all your logs in and the tyre will keep everything from shooting everywhere
The wool was certainly dirty, came out well. Are you going to card it? It's also good insulation in an emergency. I see the dogs are 'helping' again, testing the furniture 😂. Temporary fixes often happen, especially when dealing with the weather and dusty places. It's not a permanent thing, just undo, redo, which can be frustrating, but also gives incentives to learn more techniques. Cement isn't great for stone walls, it causes moisture buildup. Lime added, or just the very old recipe of 1 part lime, 2 parts sand, 1 part water (adjustable for uses) will keep the moisture levels evened out better. That's exactly what the people building castles used, it is also great for keeping viruses, bacteria away..
It was a lime and cement mix, but doing further research it seems there are mixed opinions on whether you want to keep ALL cement out of the way of stone walls or not. Next time I would use just lime as I can't see any benefit to having cement in the mix.
Hi Harriet and Mauro! You both are amazing caretakers of your beautiful home and land. Much of the maintenance you did this week may have been temporary, but it will get you to where you want to be in the long run. The terra-cotta sealant is going strong; the new outdoor area is progressing; the living room looks so cozy with the new couch. Plus the pizza looked absolutely mouth-watering! Did I miss the reveal of Mauro's office?
Little by little your getting there. Please don’t be too hard on yourselves. It’s all a learning process. Look how far you’ve come.👊🏻❣️
I envy the creative freedom and dedicated personal space you two are curating together. Thank you so much for your comment! If you ever come to Castellon let us know, we could arrange some pizzas 😁
It's very pleasurable watching you bring your labor of love to fruition. Seems you have all the sustainable amenities. 🤗😘
I’m always fascinated by how versatile and skillful you have become. Nothing phase’s you.

Sigh)
I’ve heard that rubbing winter squash with vinegar and then with oil helps them last longer. I tried it and it seems to help.

Great looking sofa. Extra bed when you need it too. Fits perfectly there.
Habéis trabajado mucho. Mucho más tú sola haciendo todo tipo de trabajo. Restaurando esa casa tan antigua. Ánimo sois muy valiosos y buenos.
Hardworking lady...One step at a time 😘
You're both doing an amazing job on the land, and the house🏡and you're learning and gaining experience as you are going along. So well done! You should be so proud of yourselves.👏👍💗
Celebrate the small wins, life isn’t perfect, you’ve done really well this week❤️✨

Your kitchen ceiling is dreamy. It's a good thing to base the rest of your kitchen design.

Te admiro! Que gran trabajadora y sabes hacer de todo. Felicidades! Saludos!
Me encanta seguir vuestro proceso y ver cómo todo va tomando forma. Os felicito.
Omg! All this in one week - huge!
You made me smile today thank you
The part with takes really fun!
I do think, you're doing your best and it is quite a lot, so it's great. My deepest respect! Your home is home to live in and not an add, thanks goodness! Wish you all the best!
Y'all's story is incredible and so inspiring. Please keep documenting your life. 🙂

Just found your channel today and this is the second video I've watched. I really like what I'm seeing on here. Subscribed!
Thank you - I enjoy your style!
I love your orange sweater!
Hahah thanks, I appreciate it! I think this is sometimes my downfall too though - lack of planning and being too eager to just see something done rather than do it properly. I guess there's a balance! Your house sounds super interesting, by the way!
I think you're pretty incredible too!
it's really fun to see how your shooting and editing is developing and evolving in addition to the progress on the homestead itself!
You both are doing a great job..
You did a great job and sometimes done is better than perfect.
BEautiful~Let It Be for now💗💚💛💜
I continuously have to fix our roof as well 🤔😉 Good luck that the rain doesn't get through ☔️
It was a lovely video, in spite of the frustrations. I like the herb bed you did in the beginning. That gave me an idea for a similar sized bed I have and couldn't conceive a good plan for. Your home and land have a certain character and ambiance that is so very appealing. You're going to work thru all the difficulties and the end result will be something quite beautiful. You both are daily dose of inpiration. Love from Brazil!
Harriet you are so versatile. Love how you'll do anything and everything. Well done.
Hi Harriet, I love your 'can-do' get on with it and hope for the best attitude. You are a real grafter. All the best for the future. Trevor.

My back hurt just watching him chop down to the ground with that rusty hatchet. Sharpen that thing and get a dedicated setup, for the love of spines!
Things are coming together little by little due to your hard work. Can't wait to see the kitchen cabinet filled out with all of the things you dezire.
Keep up the good work and enjoy your lovely busy days together.
No se su idioma y los veo siempre soy de chile concepción saludos cordiales para ustedes con todo mi corazón
lovely lunch
So happy that you and Mauro got a pizza oven! And a cool hatchet!
Mauro's very happy!
You have accomplished something that's all that matters.
You are doing an amazing job! You inspire me, i have tons of things i need to get done on my house. But i just wanted to give you some encouragement. Really enjoy all your videos and i always learn a great deal and get ideas for how to do stuff around here. Thanks again and have a beautiful day!

I like the hatchet. It's a handforged hatchet.
It feels great to use! I got a friend to restore it in his workshop, I can't wait to get it back.
You're doing great, sometimes things don't go to plan, but it all looks like progress to me!
You two should be very proud of your accomplishments, a couple more years and you’ll be the community’s experts. If you remember that the world is governed by Chaos, and no matter how much time you have it will never be done, be happy about little victories.

Must you paint the terracotta tiles? The contrast between the white wood and the color is terrific.
I am gonna paint them a terracotta colour - just to cover up the messy sealant.
Harriet is there anything you won’t try. Wool??? Amazing. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦
You're achieving such amazing things and have forgotten that most of us can't do any of it. You rebuilt a floor and wall among many other things. I had to push myself to vacuum my floor and lost some plants I was growing to wild animals due to overestimating the wire barrier I built up. :P

You got a lot done ✅ The roof will be a never ending story. My husband was trying to fix ours like Mauro did with yours.
I hope he did a better job than me 😑
I have a really big (and high) roof and some leaks and I'm scared to even start!
Where are your gardening gloves from? They look ideal and I feel like I can never find nice gardening gloves. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I hope it doesn't rain too hard!

Great progress. Well done you two. I love all the video's!
Comprar lavandas o plantas en general para crear ecosistemas resulta caro para mi. Estoy inventando propagar con esquejes, tanto aromáticas cómo frutales. Pero mi proceso es super lento y frustrantes con las falladas...
Awesome splitting going on there
Damp wet wood will clog the chimney
Hatchet is kool looks like a tomohok 🤣 use the tyre put all your logs in and the tyre will keep everything from shooting everywhere
I've started doing this. Game changer!
Harriet,You're wonderful
The pizza looks delicious ❤
A esos techos se les da yeso y quedan muy bien rematados
Great work guys! Well done! And those pizzas look delicious :)
Nice pot for the "Jack Herer" , do you grow it yourself or was that from the previous owner
Great pizza oven and the pizzas. You deserve a treat. Painting your ceiling will give you more light. Are you going to dye the fleecs?
I might do (dye the yarn), yeah!
Admirable todo tu trabajo y fortaleza! Saludos desde Chile.
Heheh nope you didn't miss it! There are just a couple of things left to do to "complete" it and we just keep getting distracted by other things!
@@LittleSpanishFarmstead Can't wait!
Great video. Sometimes you just have to get 'her done!
so nice
