      True but its a center channel speaker not hi fidelity music speaker the cross overs are elevated on highs for clarity in movies if it's balance it won't sound as good in movies as you know movies are mixed with special effects elevated causing you to raise your center channel to hear the faces I do agree they should put in better cross overs they are super cheap

    Oh man I'm so glad I was recommended this channel, I do a bit of speaker modifying myself. In fact I just replaced the woofers on a pair of fine KLH 9250B with some 12" Memphis audio subwoofers I grabbed at a yard sale. Quality at it's finest.

    • @azharzaidi3264
      @azharzaidi3264 4 года назад

      Saphire Throated Carpenter Ant hi, wasn’t there any compatibility issues. Did the replacement woofers work well or did the distort the sound. I ask because I want to change my woofers too.

    • @Saphire_Throated_Carpenter_Ant
      @Saphire_Throated_Carpenter_Ant 4 года назад +2

      @@azharzaidi3264 I was told there would be issues. I was told it wasn't the right frequency or something like that and that it was going to sound terrible. It sounds amazing.
      I disconnected the mid speaker because I was told the 12" was going to throw it out of wack since it was so powerful and if I disconnected it then at least it would be kind if like a passive mini woofer (if I understood correctly).
      The tweeter was shielded from the back so I left it connected because I didn't figure the pressure from the woofer would throw it out of wack, so to speak.
      Then I removed the 12 inch woofers from the speakers and replaced them with 12" Memphis subwoofers which I'm sure you know are for car audio. I powered the pair of Memphis subwoofers with the subwoofer amplifiers from a set of old Klipsch 12" subwoofers I also grabbed at a yard sale and connected them to the subwoofer out.
      So the speakers themselves have a tweeter running from the L/R on the receiver, a mid woofer disconnected, and a Memphis subwoofer connected to the subwoofer outs.
      Was told it would sound awful and that I was going to either ruin the subwoofers or my receiver but the receiver is still going strong and the subwoofers have been used in home audio since I picked them up about 8 years ago.
      That being said I'm sure most people on here would tell you it sounded awful. Then again just as some people can hardly tell the difference between 1080p and 4k, I can hardly tell the difference between a set of Klipsch from Best Buy and a set of $50,000 Go F Yourselves handmade by Jack Meoff...

    If I was only faster at it AND I had all of the proper measuring tools and equipment, and the money to invest in a shop with the proper tools, I could also do this sort of thing! Speaker design, building, improvement, and repair has been a serious hobby of mine for many decades already, but I've never been able to actually make any money at it, so I just do it for myself... It would be a "dream career" though, if I had the means and time to get a business like this started! Omg I just discovered this vlog series of Danny from GR Research.. soooo coool, sooo professional, straight to the point. Since couple of months (almost a year?) I enjoy the videos of Paul McGowan and it's really relaxing watching his videos too, but what I especially like in these videos of Danny is the no-bullshitting, snake-oil free, relaxed attitude and the fact that all videos begin with the topic itself. In most of the cases I'm really not interested in what has happened yesterday to the left knee of the presenter or listening to some kind of a fairy tale during the first half of a 5 minutes video 'til we get to the point - and then during an interesting explanation being distracted by the smallest thing as well, uh... that's just annoying. Danny's videos miss all these.. disturbances are cut, big fairy tales aren't there at all, he just greets us and the next sentence is right about the topic I came for according to the video's title. This is what we call pure efficiency, net and gross ratio is almost 1. :) Amazing work, all the great experience of the last decades shines through, a really down-to-earth approach to hi-fi.. I'm really pleased. Keep up the good work, I can't have enough time at the moment to watch all previous episodes but I'm trying hard.. (it goes against the 'wife factor' you know.. but hell, we're all audiophiles) :D ;)) Cheers.

      @@azharzaidi3264 I like the presentation of Danny better, but I have to admit as a person I like Paul too. Following Paul almost every day since more then a year it's almost like having a 2nd grandfather :)) lol. So all of my respect go to Paul but I always need to remind myself: there isn't only PS Audio on this planet, especially when I look on the amp and DAC measurements on audiosciencereview.com. I ditched/sold all my amps since 3-4 years, living on headphones still.. and now looking for a bunch of Hypex modules for my active 3-way stereo. These toys make such a big difference in sound, especially low noise floor, clarity and woofer control, omg, I just left all of the good-old Class A and AB stuff - I think it's a matter of taste but luckily (or not) my ears like the 'dry, precise' presentation much better, than the lush, warm sound of some amps (which is a sound characteristics and NOT included on the original material). Excellent implementation of Class D is so much different.. (and superior by now I think). But this is another topic, cheers and good luck for the tuning/reparature :)

      In a large corporation like Klipsch, what likely happens is somewhere along the way from when the engineer(s) spec'd the crossover, suppliers changed, components were swapped out, revisions were made, etc, and you get a product like this. It's not hard to see a finance guy making a switch somewhere without consulting any engineers to save money or meet deadlines, or the factory making the box differently to cut production time without telling engineers. I am willing to bet the crossover design is made very early on in design stages before revisions to the product get made (i.e. swapping drivers due to supply chain issues), thus creating a situation where the crossover is no longer suitable with the new parameters from product revisions.

      Kirk Cunningham, I wouldn't know until you bring the speaker here to an acoustic engineer for measurements. I notice those are a horn loaded speaker with a 2.5 way crossover. It will be interesting to see how those woofers similar to the Klipsch rp8000f are crossed over to that twitter. What Mr Richie has stressed repeatedly is that he does not bash on these manufacturers for making some of these component and design choices. He understands that to compete and meet a price point, especially on factory produced products, lower quality components and non resonating materials will be compromised. This is exactly why we spend that extra $$ on his networks as he uses higher quality components that bring the speaker to what it should have been.

    • @MrPhirit
      @MrPhirit 4 года назад

      Steely Dan 5000, actually he has tested a bookshelf speaker I forgot from which manufacturer, which was fine after he did his measurements. He found no problem with its crossover and response and decided to just upgrade a few parts to elevate it. Klipsch aren't dumb and they know where they are cutting corners to meet that price point on their popular speakers why else do u think their heresy line has all the high end components. I own a pair of rp8000f and a pair of Whaferdale diamonds 10 and trust me Mr Richie is correct on saying there's a gap where the two 8 inch woofers crossover to the one horn tweeter. I noticed it when I switched to the Whaferdales which are a 3 way speaker hence he made an upgrade kit for the rp8000 making them a 2.5 way speaker allowing the tweeter to crossover to the upper woofer but still maintaining at lower frequencies the two woofers to play as one. This made them blend a lot better with that tweeter. So actually he is helping these manufacturers for free and not trying to destroy their business.

    I'm very happy with my rp160s/rp600s and my 450c. For the price they're great. It's nice to see people can still choose to "upgrade" these if they want to spend a little extra money. You want to spend extra money for higher quality parts, go ahead. Talking with Klipsch engineers, they have to balance price and quality to fit in the market they're shooting for

    • @dannyrichie9743
      @dannyrichie9743 4 года назад +1

      Yes, the parts quality at these price points is about the same as what is seen in many others, but there are some engineering issues with the models that I have designed upgrades for that really needed to be addressed.

      @@dannyrichie9743 then at that point buy a better pair of speakers. That's what I don't understand. People say all the time that these are cheaply built and this and that but frankly these aren't classified as end all be all speakers. They're the midline of Klipsch products. If you're spending low money and expecting miracles, you won't get that. It's just more me getting annoyed when people start saying shit about the speakers but they're affordable. How do people think they become affordable? It's just hypocrisy. These engineering "issues" aren't "issues." They're decisions engineers make so if people want to get a nice set of speakers at a good price, they can buy them

    • @dannyrichie9743
      @dannyrichie9743 4 года назад +3

      I am pretty certain that even if you step up into price points that are double what these are you still see the same cheesy internal parts. So you wind up in the same boat. I found the same cheesy parts in their $3,500 Forte 3 model. I did a video on that one as well. And it was a pretty BIG upgrade.
      And when the drivers are out of phase at the crossover point and the crossover isn't allowing the range of one driver to reach the range of the next (causing a hole), that isn't something that engineers decide to do. That is lack of any engineering. Those are real issues. Stored energy and ringing are also issues not addressed. They are not the result of some calculated decision.
      And upgrading speakers is part of the fun. It also gets new people involved in learning and enjoying the DIY aspect of this hobby.

Klipsch did a good job for the price bracket they are targeting. The upgrades this video discusses might not seem like a lot of money, but when you are selling thousands and thousands of speakers, a small sacrifice in performance can equate to millions in additional profits for Klipsch. It’s nice that there are experts like this that can take a mass production speaker and perfect it for such a low price. But it isn’t a bad speaker out of the box.

    So all these Best Buy klipsch owners love their speakers. Yet they need modification to get some goodness out of them?!
    Buy a real klipsch instead of this mid low fi shit. Get it over with already

      @@bigjay1970 Yeah, we've done an upgrade in the Forte as well. And it also really needed it.

      Yep saw that video among the many I've seen of yours. Klipsch seems to use cheap ass shit and if you even sneeze on the veneer it will scratch its so delicate. Basically a decent marketing Company with shit products! And although they might cost a lot more, at least JBL with their synthesis products like the M2 or S9900 or even Everest 6700 don't use shit components! But again you're paying a lot more of course but that klipschorn for $16,000 is made like a piece of shit!🤪🤪🤯🤯🤯🤯 Can't imagine what 16 Grand in your product line sounds like and is built like!🤪🤪🤗🤗😇😇🤫🤫😬 Heck, if the stock market keeps going up like this I might consider buying a used pair of Everest 6700!😉😉😁😁😋🤑🤑🙄
