      They have to move the ball with more confidence. A lot of those turnovers last night were not directly caused by defensive interference and were just blatant mistakes. I saw one where Kyrie just threw the ball to no one 😂 they have to stay focused no matter how much defensive pressure is put on them.

      Man if they're so good and will be champs you should sell everything you have, remortgage your house and put all that money on the Celtics.
      And when those fakers will choke, I will laugh at you as I see you moving in to your new cardboard box under a bridge.

      Ball rotation is key. That could cause Boston to be off balance a little to open shot availability and open some lanes. Dallas has the skill players to get points, but as shown here Boston was able to shut those players ball because ball rotation was bad for Dallas.

    It blows my mind that Kyrie constantly gets passes for performances like that and he has throughout his entire career because people are obsessed with his individual skill... he dribbles ball ooooo so coool so flashyyyyyyyy 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 ... it's absolute insanity. People wanna put him in convos with the best players/PGs in the NBA but he never gets held to the same standard as them in terms of performance. A few months back, I had people trying to debate with me that he's better than SGA right now. It's absolute insanity and delusion at this point. He's way too inconsistent. I'm sure he'll play better going forward but Mavs have no shot if he's having performances like that.

    • @onebigadvocado6376
      @onebigadvocado6376 5 месяцев назад

      Absolutely, and it's exactly this that separates him from the likes MJ, Lebron, Kobe, Timmy. Those guys the kind where they're expected to bring it every game, and when that doesn't happen, the media is waiting.

    • @ant4613
      @ant4613 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@onebigadvocado6376 Yes, exactly, and we don't even have to go to the all time greats. It's what separates him from literally any superstar that's the #1 option/leading a team in the NBA today too. SGA, Brunson, Ant, Haliburton, etc. people wanna criticize these guys like crazy when their teams don't do well but Kyrie somehow escapes any and all criticism because he's never the leader and he's always hiding behind a top 3 player. He's having a horrible finals right now and maybe if that continues, people will finally wake up about him, but he had two 9 point games and a 12 point game against the Thunder and was pretty bad for a superstar's standards in that series. Luckily for him, he's playing with Luka. Can you see SGA, Brunson, etc. getting away with having a series like that? If SGA had a series like that, they would've gotten swept. If any other star did, they would've lost the series. But here he is, in the NBA Finals. And yet, people always insert him in convos with these players and people even tell me he's better than them. It's ridiculous.

    I’m surprised you didn’t mention the half dozen unforced turnovers from the Mavs too. I saw too many passes that went to nobody. Dumb travels. Dibbling off the foot. Only 6 threes in the first 40 minutes. And the game was still in reach. I personally wouldn’t say the overall defense from the Celtics was unbeatable. For a stretch in the first it was. But the Mavs beat themselves early and kept tripping over themselves. And against a Boston team that will take that advantage and keep kicking you while you’re down, you gotta stay balanced

    It was an 8 point game with like 4-5 minutes left in the 3rd. I wouldn't say it got closer in garbage time. Dallas made a legit run end of 1st half and start of 2nd half, then Boston turned it back on and kept it around 20 point lead.

    • @jonnyarnett
      @jonnyarnett  5 месяцев назад +8

      Nah, I think you misunderstood. I wasn't referring to the 8 Point deficit as garbage time. After Dallas got it close in the 3rd, that lead increased back to the mid-20s, and THEN in the 4th, things got a little closer as Boston won by 18. My point was that this was technically an 18 point victory, but before garbage time, it was basically a 25 point beatdown.

    Early on, Luka made some costly turnovers that shifted made things worse after the Celtics early offensive push, so momentum shifted futher away from Dallas.
    Early on, they have to stay settled on offence and tenacious on defence.
    How they were able to get back with eight points is how they can be competitive.
    If Kyrie is off, he needs to be off the floor for a bit, at least.
    The Celtics were brilliant on defence, especially Porzingis and Brown.
    One thing they need to do is stiffle penetration in the paint. That was killing them. When they collapsed it allowed Celtics to quickly rotate the ball to an open shooter on the perimeter.

      The problem is their isolation defenders gets blown by frequently, especially Luka and Kyrie, making their defense collapse with other guys running for help and allowing other Celtic player to be wide open.
      Best adjustment Kidd can make is just allow Celtics to beat them one-on-one or seal Brown or KP before they can even touch the ball. But you risk the chance of Tatum exploding with minimal coverage.

    Great recap and video, Jonny! I think Dallas will bounce back. If I remember correctly, the Mavs shot poorly in their loss to the Timberwolves, but they def shot better in the game afterwards. Dallas can still level it. Boston played crazy and hit an insane amount of 3's. Dallas had chances to stem the tide, but they couldn't hit key shots. They did manage to get it back to 8 points.
    If Boston don't keep up that crazy performance from 3 and Dallas' supporting players hit some shots, this could be a lot closer.

    Even thought it's just one game, i still believe the Mavs have a chance in game 2. Boston is pretty inconsistent, despite being great. But, as soon as one key player from Boston shows up, and either Brown or Tatum show up, they will be fine. Even if Kidd make some adjustment that actually worked on previous serious, so far Boston is the team with more experience and better coach. They will choke one game, but they cant fuck up two games in a row because the Celtics have the right pieces and coaching.

    It's so hard to tell how much of a loss this game was. 20 pt blow outs feel so much more common even among great teams. If nothing else though it definitely felt like a statement game of the Celtics saying we're the ones to beat.
    As for what Dallas needs to do. They absolutely need to work on rotating the ball around more on the offense. You're not going to win a championship with your two best players only averaging 3 assists together and 9 total as a team.

    Oh God, really, my main dude? Didn't we just go through this in the previous Mavs playoff series when they lost their lone one game and you started questioning everything and the existential plight of man's place in the greater context of the entire cosmos? Remember that? And remember what happened the very next game,? Mavs wrapped it up like a boss.
    Luka and The Mavs (could be a post punk Sylvania band) do things a little different. They almost gotta create obstacles for themselves to manufacture the extra added incentive and kick that propels them when they back is against the wall, to suddenly rise up like mad blazing Phoenix birds of prey that burn with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns! And don't matter the opponent, cause the end result, two things the same outcome: they're arch nemesis get touched and ain't nothing left of 'em after but a chaired burn unit Boston bird carcus.
    You my boy. Alight? You my boy, Blu!!

    I swear if Luka and Jokic were your run of the mill modern day American nba player they would team up and cook the league for at least 3-4 years.

    Everyone over hyped for the mavs.
    Just because they beat 2 teams with no experience and young stars & a team with a bunch of fat old hurt stars.

    I think this video format works really well for the playoffs, so I wouldn't mind if it disappeared or was altered for the regular season from here on out

    Mavs looked completely unmotivated & unprepared, as theyve looked for every game 1 these playoffs. It was literally Luka vs the world out there, Kyrie definitely got in his own head. Missing wide open 3s & making jr high turnovers.
    Boston was just red hot from 3.
