    This happened 50 years ago, and Nando, Roberto, and Carlos are all still alive today!!
    If this story doesn't make you fall in love with the human spirit, nothing will.

    So many comments bashing how this movie didn't tell the "real" story. It's a MOVIE, not a documentary. Oh, it's the "Hollywood version"?? Maybe that's because it was made by Hollywood??

    I dont think this is the best movie ever, for many reasons, but I do appreciate that they included "I'll cut some meat off the pilot, they got us into this mess," which was a verbatim quote that Nando said.

    The real people that survived this, wished they had the sweaters and "winter" clothing these people had. Most of them had never even seen snow let alone cold af wind

      Exactly there are no mountains or snow capped peaks in Uruguay, where everything is mostly flatland or smooth hills, Urus do travel to Argentina or Chile to expericnce that kind of scenery

      🤔 What are you talking about? The pictures of the real survivors showed they had on sweaters, suits, jackets. Basically, layers of clothes from the dead just as seen in this movie except for Parrado who had a small coat jacket after his sister died.

      📖 In chapter 2 of Paul Piers Read's book "ALIVE!", Susana Parrado "wore a beautiful fur-lined coat made from antelope skin which she had bought only the day before." After she died, Nando wore her coat.

    For many years, the event called 'the miracle/tragedy of the Andes' was mostly known in the world because of this film, a completely distorted version of the real story. And even worse, most of the videos in English on the incident are based on this movie.
    In 'Alive', a lot of the facts were changed (not minor details) and others were made up just to give Ethan Hawke's character the role of the 'superhero', while the other characters are practically passive spectators who depend entirely on Nando's initiative. In reality, what took those young men out of the mountains was the extraordinary teamwork, the resourcefulness and the heroic actions of the whole group, including many of those who died in the snow.
    The main leaders and strategists were the Strauch cousins, but as the survivors say, each one of them was a leader depending on the moment and the skills needed during the 72 days they were stranded in the Andes. The survivors have always expressed their dissatisfaction with this film, they find it superficial, and call it 'the Disney version'.

    • @18haylo
      @18haylo 6 месяцев назад +4

      The reason Ethan Hawke's character is made out to be the hero is because his real life counterpart was the technical advisor for the film, so of course he made himself out to be the main guy (not to take away from his real life bravery and heroism though)

    • @ghastly389
      @ghastly389 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@18haylo No, it goes deeper than that. Nando Parrado was portrayed as the big hero already on the book Alive, which the survivors didn't like that much either. This comes from U.S. culture, the necessity to portray an individual savior (either Parrado, or God, which Alive mentions until boredom, when in interviews you see Nando questioning if all this was a miracle, after all his sister and mother died there) over community teamwork, as was in reality. That's why luckily now we have Society of the Snow.

      Unfortunately, it’s a movie, not a documentary. This goes for most “based on true events” movies made in Hollywood. Now they’ve even gone a step further with “inspired by actual events” which basically applies to every fictional movie ever made.

    • @stephaniemorrissey5114
      @stephaniemorrissey5114 Месяц назад

      Maybe so, but this wasn't a documentary. It was a movie. At the end of the day a movie is a product made for profit. It's called the "movie business," not the "100% factual information business."

      The three of them are depicted as the only heroes in this film, but the survivors have always said that 'Alive' doesn't portray the real story. In fact, they dislike it because in it, too many unnecessary liberties were taken, like adding scenes that actually never happened, such as Canessa returning in the rescue helicopter; and omitting major details and characters, such as the Strauch cousins (the group leaders after the avalanche).
      In real life, it was teamwork at its best what took them out of the mountains, this is why, the 16 survivors and many of those who died in the Andes (Gustavo Nicolich, Numa Turcatti, Liliana Methol, etc) are all considered heroes.
