Chappy has a bit of a weird hitbox imo. I had more success hitting crits once I started aiming at the top / just ever so slightly over the head rather than dead center. Also, I don't remember who tested it but the Panana Ravine Ornament still gives about half a meter of extra range even after Bungie "fixing" it.
I also felt like i was surely hitting headshots without getting them. I remembered that someone said its more consistent if you aim for the "hat" even if theres no hat and i have to agree.
You’re playing the wrong class, Chappell excels on warlock with tsteps. Also lower sens helps, I play 5 on 800 dpi and enemy players regularly add me to compliment my Snipes with it.
Get your hands on the new re-released version it feels better than ever. But bungies nerf to rapid fires hit registration is felt. There have been too many times where shots that should have been a heatshot were counted as body or just outright whiffing despite me seeing the bullet perfectly hit their head. Still a fantastic sniper and the new foundry perk is perfect for it.

if you like those, you should give supercluster from this season a try, fluted barrel + steady rounds with fragile focus and slide shot with handling masterwork. gives 100 range, 100 stability (for flinch), and almost 100 handling (dont know the exact number) one of the best feeling slugs imo at the moment :)
I've been having fun with supercluster max range and max handling with TDx1 super clean sight too albeit a bit bulky sadly..looks like a Doom gun tho so who cares 😂.

Someone who has 15k+ kills on chappy here. U gotta aim above the head with chappy. It’s different from a normal slug. It’ll prioritize the body if u aim neck level bcuz it has such a big hit box. Basically have the head inside the lower half of the circle.
How to chapperone, 101: Always ADS when inside of the 15 feet range. Hip fire when in the 5 feet range. If the target is holding back, Suppress fire and sit back a bit to force them to push you, then switch to chappie and stay close to an environmental wall for cover. If a target is using Trace rifle, or fusion rifle, you can beat them by using a grenade AOE and peak shooting too make them run, as soon as they start to run go for their cheeks. Avoid this if they are using a Sniper or shotgun/ slug/ precision/ lightweight. Instead use a teammate as a meat shield to close the gap. When using chappie think of it as a close range pipe Sniper.😂 It’s good but terrible if you don’t know how to use it. So let’s make it easier for you PvP bros, if you hit a 151 hp shot to the body yeah just switch to an aggressive Handcannon for a wipe. I avoid using handcannons cause overload autos and overload pulse is useful at preventing enemy regen in both PvP and PvE. So to make this easier. If you try to snipe a 100 resil warlock in a well with chappie good luck cause it won’t kill them. But somehow you can kill a bubble titan. Aggressive snipers work best for taking out both or just use Cerberus. With chappie if you hit a body shot for 100 hp don’t panic… you can punch or shoot the chappie again at them as long as they’re not using overshields. So how do we counter Void Titan overshields. Well 😂that’s a secret for warlocks using Arc Sentry Childs + no time to explain + a rapid fusion rifle or grenade launcher if they hide constantly. Good luck.

Honestly dood ud probly LOVE useing an openshot max handling Inquisitor instead. Im on ps5 and I personally doNOT like chappy for some reason. Seriously way easier to use to some reason. Ive got an adept with fluted handling mw, extended mag (ae) and pulse monitor (handling scalar when weak) and opening shot(100 range with first shot) . So dumb 😂😂🎉🎉 and there none of that bs animation crap that chappy has so much better 😂
The opposite happens to me. I suck at crucible, but in that skill level I use better the precision guns like slugs or snipers and I absolutely suck at using pellet shotguns, which is a shame because some of them are gorgeous.
I started using it again since I don’t have conditional. It’s still hard to outplay a conditional user with it because they don’t have to take time to get a headshot But I used to use this thing a lot in forsaken so I took it for a spin again and it’s good

With slugs you want to aim for the top of the head. Even if you aim slightly above, the aim assist will still give you a headshot.
