The advantage of using the silicone strap with the neoprene cover is that keeps having this “easy to adjust” system and it’s perfect for the backup mask due to it’s not only my backup, but It can be for my buddy too. My primary mask is with webbing and neoprene strap and the backup mask is silicone with neoprene cover. I don’t like the slap strap Velcro version because the velcro wears out quite fast and also it’s quite sharp on the edges.
hey Javier, yeas - great advice. And to add to that, I would suggest a quite "generic" back-up mask with soft silicone seal so it would fit you and teammates' faces. Just please, please prepare your back up mask like your primary mask - the worse that can happen is a fogging backup mask :))
Thank you Dorota... very nice..I have two more benefits for the slap strap...first: easy to Marker the mask with your Name and second: the mask floats a littlebit better (sink slower) with a slapstrap than the siliconstrap if you loose the mask underwater
I use the slap velcro strap for my primary mask, and the silicone strap for my backup mask, in case I have to give it to another team member with a different size (I have a very big head!) for the ease of adjustment
Great Idea for a new series of videos. I use the slap velcro strap. I loved it because of the ease to put it on and remove it. Very helpful also if you need to remove it underwater for any reason. I have had to adjust it once while underwater. I did stop my team for a minute while I took care of it but it wasn’t really an issue for me.
Hi! Sounds like interesting content! Most hoods are made of neoprene. Neoprene compresses in depth. If I adjust my slap strap to match on the surface, it no longer fits in depth. No more at 30m. It hovers loosely on the back of my head, which makes me sad, because i like the product. No tangling of the D-ring, easy on and off.
mhm... Nini, I am diving much deeper than 30 meters and never had an issue with this, to be honest. Maybe more flexible neoprene (and thicker) one the slap-strap would be better. Or just make the strap a tiny bit tighter. But thanks for sharing your experience :)
Could it be the material that's used for your Slap-strap and/or your hood? or maybe the Velcros on the strap have lost their grip? I dive to 50~60m range quiet regularly but that has never happened to me. I use the Halcyon slap-strap and have been using it for the last 6 years with zero issues. Also, the hood that I use is Santi 7mm.
@@azadpeymaparham I dive the GUE slap strap on the H-View from Halcyon and the 5mm hood from Waterproof. The Velcro is tight and not loose. It is a brand new slap-strap. I have no idea what it could be. I'll probably just try again^^
@@Ni2_Technical_Diving see if the strap is not too high on the back of your head - it should be really in the middle. And TBH my strap is quite loos, and sometimes it floats free, but usually, it is just a move to slide it back As well try not to inhale thru your nose to make the mask tighter on your face, as this will slightly decrease the distance, as the profile of the mask is less when you "suck: it. to your face more, So try to rather exhale, and let is fit nicely, and "lightly" rather then squeezed on
I have had a slap strap on my mask for 20+ years. I wear the velcro on the outside (pretty design on the inside) so the scratchy straps don't rub against my head. I have no complaints!! I am trying to find one for my daughter and cannot find the neoprene/velcro design anymore - only a strap cover which is inferior. The silicone strap still grabs hair at the buckle.
The slap-strap makes diving so much easier. Generally, almost all divers are more task loaded in the beginning of every dive because we have to do buddy checks, equipment checks and getting ready to jump in the water etc etc which can make us easily make mistakes and forget things. So anything that lowers the task loading in the beginning of a dive is always welcome in my personal opinion and slap-strap is one of those goodies. It makes put the mask on so much easier which means one less thing to worry about and consequently you have more time to focus on other tasks. Think about how much easier your dives can be if you could put your mask on with one hand without any trouble... Plus adjusting the strap with slap-strap is so much easier and more practical than silicon strap in my opinion. I have been in situations that I felt the mask is a bit too tight or lose underwater while we were descending, and it took me less than 30 seconds to adjust the strap during the descend without holding up my team. Now, I have the slap-strap on my all masks and will never go back to silicon. Safe diving :)
I have both masks with neoprene strap cover, and i try to switch between them even once and while to check if both are still doing what they are supposed to do. For the slap strap i disagree for my personal opinion and case :) I'm always have a very short hair while diving most of the time. the slap strap doesn't offer much adjustability underwater like the normal silicon strap. But i agree that the buckels of the silicon strap are cconsidered a point of failure.
haha... I did lose one as well.. but the risk of this repeating is smaller than the discomfort of the silicone straps for me... so I still chose the more comfortable one... :)
The music during all the talking is so distracting and annoying. It’s super dramatic for mask straps. It is the same in all the videos and makes me not want to watch them even though I like GUE

Great breakdown! I like the new series idea, too. Could you do one on braided vs. rubber hoses? Thanks!
hah... that is a cool one indeed. @Nico - can we add it to our list?

Please continue with this series it is very informative
Thank you, Ivory. We will definitely do that :) few are already filmed and even more are in queue!

Great first VS Monday! First time to hear about slap-strap. I use hybrid.
Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for sharing what you wear on your mask!

Ahmad - thanks for watching and good to see you here :) let me or Nico know if you have some cool ideas you think we can cover here :)))
@@dorotaczerny7496 Will do. 😃
Really great video
Hello can someone please tell me what brand is the black mask? First one, the slap strap mask,

yeah, and a mask that just fits makes so much difference underwater. Thanks, P A!
Could you please tell me where I can buy that adjustable slap strap ?

what about the Chernobyl diver equipment, the fish bowl?
The only mask I've ever lost was because it had a slap strap. A big wave knocked it off my head and I never found it again
