You're correct but leaving out key details. Apple made listening to music with 1000 songs in your pocket, trendy and sexy, while simultaneously devastating the Sony Walkman to where it was barely seen ever again.
I miss the days when computers and phones were separate units. We had social media but it was contained to the computer, not destroying society like today. Phones had great cameras (Sony Ericsson) so that would have evolved anyway.
Still using a classic GSM phone. Much more handy and better battery life. The idiot phone is a small portable computer, who's apps have become a necessity for functioning in modern society. It is no longer an optional extra.

Just wanted to mention about the opening; As a former HP Technician, we were allowed, encouraged even to utilize our broad production line stock of electronic components to do our own experimentation/learning/projects at no cost to us, so it wasn’t necessarily theft…unless they were running a production line for themselves using those parts. That was one of the many things I liked about working at HP in the “Good Ol Days”
Seems more like they were allowing the techs to use their stock to see if anyone would come up with something that could use in their production line and yet claim it as their own...the techs were just used for their brain and yet as for the tech whom came up with whatever new idea, when it comes for them to get the awards and mula, that would not take place cause they claimed it as their invention.
*_THANK YOU!!! That's what I've been trying to tell people!!! Too many media sources keep putting out this lame, inaccurate bull$hit PR crap that Steve Jobs was some sort of "inventor" but he wasn't! Steve Wozniak built their first computer all by himself and was the one doing most (if not ALL) of the technical stuff behind the scenes!_*

"none of us would put up with that".. .in regards to doing the same thing with cars. Uh, no. we ARE doing exactly the same thing with manufacturers like Tesla especially and other EVs... We are letting them do exactly what we let Apple build up to. It needs to stop
All gas cars been run by computer to meet EPA reg to reduce fuel consumption and avoid rollovers in SUVs via wheel sensors etc as well as other features
Thats not what the original commenter talking about . Hes talking about apple , and tesla as examples where if you dont pay for certain monthly subscriptions you basically cannot use the product you pay for in the way it will run optimally. Another example that ive read about recently is when buying a subscription to have ink for your printer HP printers automatically assume your ink has run out and your printer wont print after a certain amount of time has elapsed even though the customer has barely printed anything. So in effect you're not outright owning the product but must pay a monthly subscription to the company that makes it so it can work properly. Tesla for example has a subscription for charging the car faster . Imagine having to pay a monthly subscription to be able to fill up your car as quickly at the pump as you can now or otherwise be able to fill it up in say 20 minutes @akaElvira666
Amazing that Apple was allowed to change their business model to planned obsolescence. There’s collusion with app companies, constantly having to upgrade apps, and by extension, operating systems that only run on new models. I’m convinced my older MacBooks used to handle graphics processing better, and it was great updating RAM and hard drives. Now if you want install more than one or two Adobe applications like you used to you or you want processing power like you had before, you need to pay 4x the price. It’s a massive scam where they screwed their entire customer base
I put a sanction on Apple when they repurposed my perfectly functional iPad to a paperweight. Total crooks. Nicely designed products, but my life is no worse without them. Any company practising in designed obsolescence deserves to go out of business. Car companies have been building cars that cannot be maintained without their overpriced service shops for years, along with ridiculously priced spare parts. My BMW 330e headlights cost £1800 each and I had to replace one because the plastic lens was cracked when the light was working perfectly. I won't be buying another BMW or any other brand behaving like this.
Hate the policy which makes eternal SW 'obsolete'. Apps that can't be bough, but only available as subscription services. Old apps that vanishes from the app store, making you needing to have a backup on deep freeze in the fridge in case something break with your original device. For creative critical apps that is.
My 2012 iMac passed away this year and my 2014 model is probably not long for this world. Both were due to be replaced in 2022 but supply chain issues meant that it never happened and after 6 months I cancelled the €4000 order. The problem now is that I just don't need iMac's, everything they used to be capable of doing I can do just as well on a system half the price or less, Canva allows me to do, print ready graphics on a €150 android phone for example. I will always be grateful to Apple because the iMacs allowed me to grow my business and perform to a high standard but loyalty goes both ways and launching the M1 chip iMac so soon after the new iMac launch left a very bitter taste that poisoned the brand for me.
The M series macs are night and day better than their Intel-based predecessors. I still have a functioning PowerPC MacBook Pro. Wish they skipped the Intel detour altogether.
@@rylanthreinen Its not the chip, its how they do it and make old products obsolete on purpose. My 2015 Mac cant even install a new OS because apple crippled it. Even the one that's on it. @@John_LeteYou are describing all major companies and all governments. ALL are wolves in sheep’s clothing, that is the basis of modern civilization. The only winning move is seeing how many of the technological advances you can get away with not taking part in. I’ve worked in IT for 30 years and it’s just a useless, endless treadmill of consumerism. We don’t need much of it and did fine for all of human history without modernity. Convenience has a steep price. Seriously, the only sheep I see are those who insist they must have the latest gadgets or insist on using social media nonstop. The more you buy into ANYTHING, the more it will suck your soul since YOU are their product. I feel the only winning move is not to play the game. You can get by just fine without most nonsensical technology. Many of us have already. The few devices I have are old and not utilized much. Most of the time, I’m living life OFFLINE.
Half correct. 2024 is the 1984. But as Google, Facebook, Whatsapp, Microsoft, Instagram, and TikTok are creating the greatest global spying and manipulation era in human history, Apple is the white knight giving users complete power over their privacy, and castrating the powers of these evil-doers.
It’s the best computing experience in modern history. I’ve been on the other side with Windows and all kinds of third party Jank. Stuff is always needing to be fiddled with or set up, or it’s not setup right, or vendors just discontinue a whole product line like HP did with Palm, and it just sucks. I did that number for over 20 years before I switched to Apple. Now I fiddle around with Linux and networking and other devices as a hobby, but my main daily drivers that I make money with, I want that stuff to work. That’s something I’ll pay more for to get that ease and reliability. Sure they do a few things I don’t like, such as the reduced interoperability with iMessage, and the insane storage and ram prices, but I don’t have to foot that cost very often. Over all, it’s a way better experience than the alternatives. Unfortunately sooner or later they are going to be forced to break up into different divisions or sell something off and then the products and ecosystem is going to be broken.
Big tech companies get away with stuff simply because they can. We have a capitalist system and when corporations do whatever they can to make as much money as possible we get upset at the company, but the problem is government, lax laws, lobbying, lack of oversight, lack of meaningful discipline (billion dollar companies can afford million dollar fines). Don’t be mad at tech companies, be mad at the system that makes this level of greed and control possible.
You sir are correct! People wouldn’t be nearly as mad if the products they loved didn’t cost nearly as much and the company did not have too much control over the products we have purchased outright. Apple is a symptom way more than a problem.
Sure, be mad at the system, but we can still hold these giant tech companies responsible for their bad and/or destructive practices, especially when they are BS'in the public about how great they are with corporate responsibility.
Not sure why no one has responded with this. Apple's estimated annual federal corporative tax payment is $8.1 billion but this varies annually. It representa an average.
We give tax breaks to companies because companies are made up of people. Employees, stockholders (your 401K, union pension, teacher's retirement plan, etc.) and other businesses benefit. Ireland was smart to bring business to their shores with tax breaks, but they are hardly unique. You can find flaws in any system created by man, and this is no exception. There will always be abuses and corruption in human activities. But overall it has given EVERYONE in the West a better standard of living. Even the poor in the west are much better off than the poor in much of the world. I have great empathy for peoples who are struggling. It can be very difficult to overcome the inertia of poverty. But instead of focusing on tearing down what we have built, we need to help others overcome the hurdles to being a productive economy for all of their people, and to continue making our own society better. We can't do that by allowing government to suck the life out of our societies with rampant and unproductive spending.
This is the first time I've seen a video accurately depict how religiously creepy the cult mentality is with the Apple loyal fan base. Apple stores looking like churches, launches seeming like a celebratory baptism, the list goes on
Yes that was very interesting aspect touched in this video but it also tells something how religion works ;) Pay fee to feel like a member of better society.
And yet… the user experience is much better compared to the others… guys: Apple reduced the level of UX over the post-Jobs era, and yet it is better than with competitors!!
It’s gonna be really awkward when they find out the federal reserve is a private bank cartel. The spotlight gets shown on Apple. As if all other companies aren’t doing the exact same thing. Just more poorly.
Apple is not the problem. The tax system and the use of cheap labour by 90% of all companies is the issue. We all look for ways to reduce our tax load.THE GOVT, is guilty of wasting our tax money and many of us resent the Govt for it. .
Apple are a big component in all the problems you blame on politicians. It's known as 'denial', resulting in ordinary people making excuses for bad companies. If you have Apple products, discover what they have been doing and continue to buy Apple products, you're as guilty as Apple.
@@alaakelathe taxes were supposed to be temporary. They’re unconstitutional. They are allowed through a Congressional loophole and allowed to continue. This is not the only issue though. The closed ecosystem is an issue as well. You are beholden to Apple from cradle to grave of that phone. You never own it. You never have any right to open it, upgrade it, or fix it how you see fit. That’s not consumer friendly. There are no budget options, DIY options or modular components. It’s a complete racket. Government subsidized mobsters is all these companies are. The very governments you think are talking about legal repercussions for Apple would be just as happy to maintain the status quo as long as Apple gives 10% to the Big Guy. Don’t get it twisted.
Anyone who gets money without working for it is going to waste it. It has always amazed me how the US Govt. can owe so much and then give it away without a thought!

Apple is an advertising company, not a tech company, and they've made it acceptable for all tech companies (especially cell phone companies) to offer less for more money.

Its a Brand and it sells on its hype. Who in their right mind would buy a phone that sells for US $1500 but costs a fraction of that because of where and who builds it. People just want to be seen to be seen with an Apple phone and the more its costs the better. That fact was employed by Apple marketing.

Apple products have always been about the best long term experience rather than swanky new features every year that wont even make a difference to your everyday user experience. Even a product from 2017-18 works so smoothly. There is no argument that Apple products work the best.
Apples business model conflicts with my business model, my model based on maximizing my property, to repair everything myself, from my cars to my computers etc.
I heard activation of electric seat heating is Tesla's is a subscription service, that follows the owner of the car, not the car itself. That said, from the get go most commercial SW is licensed not sold. Depending on the licence agreement, it can be revoked at anytime.
@HopelessAutistic my ex gf and her family all had apple and I never understood the appeal. I prefer customization over security and UI. Additionally, it is very difficult to switch to android, because you invested so much into the apple ecosystem already.
So many times when I see statements like this, it’s considered a badge of honour. Just because you don’t own any Apple products doesn’t make the equivalent products you do own any more ethical. It would be naive to believe otherwise. The coverage of Apple is because of their market concentration and valuation. It’s valid criticism and it can be debated that their actions are particularly egregious, but it’s still missing the context that this isn’t unique to them.

Companies have been deemed people under the law. The difference is, they are not considered private citizens because of their public exposure. They are essentially a civil servant therefore they are subject to higher scrutinization, held to a higher standard and should not be above the law. Which is what they are.
All the monopolistic companies behave the same trying to get an unfair advantage. Examples, Amazon controlling the rules for its resellers, Costco with its Kirkland brand competing against its suppliers, Google forcing app developers to only adopt android

Apple true innovation spirit died when Steve died. Apple just make super minor upgrades nowadays that are decades away from Android competitors which are way more affordable than them. All apple users are just stuck in this eco hellhole.
Tim Cook got the opportunity when Jobs died and "stole" the company. But they won't remove him cos he is "successful" in making money, cos that's all it matters in a capitalistic society.
I am so glad someone is bringing all this to light.A lot of companies are watching and planning to do the same things. Now we can start stopping these tactics right? A company should not be allowed to be diverse like this. Phone makers should be only making phones, commissioning another company to make the os, and developers to make the apps. This spreads the wealth and power around preventing a company from controlling our laws-or-directly influencing our lives in so many ways and for the most part, all paths lead to that "mother" company making all the money, getting all the power and being able to do whatever they want. I have always hated Apple, their tactics. One time it was so obvious, when they got rid of audio jacks making it seem like you can only get apple's ear devices a few people were talking about it and it was all hushed up using other tactics that in my opinion should be illegal. If everyone could see the truth they would throw away all their apple stuff

Nothing shows money isn't a weapon like death. The wealthiest man in the history of Rome, Crassus, was ended by pouring molten gold down his throat. Great historical example that's worth following.
As a long time Apple user (since the early nineties), working in both graphic design and music production, I have decided that my next upgrade won’t be an Apple brand. Under mr Cook the Apple brand has turned around from innovative, repairable, upgradable and e-waste friendly into a money making scam machine. Shiny on the outside, but full of tricks under the hood. Just to let you throw away your perfectly working older device, and make you buy more expensive new devices.

The shareholder value model does not serve the purposes of representational governments and should be reassessed in line with ethically derived shareholder value thereby capturing relevant taxes in all traded domains, employee welfare, sourcing etc. this will of course harm net value to shareholders but they’ve got away with this for long enough.
This model was invented so that landed nobles could pool their money and give it to commissioned officers of the Royal armies who scouted trading investments in the third world colonies. The wealth came from profiteering of rich people from gold and silver captured from America's after Genociding the locals. Once the commissioned officers found opportunities abroad they used the power of the Royal military to force local rulers to agree to their terms.
An exclusive customer since 1984, it is hard to think about dissociating from Apple. I’m rapidly losing my resistance. Right now, I can do two things: reduce my reliance, and slow down my buying of new products. Maybe it’s time for another company to start small, but urgently innovate.
The government isn't cutting valuable services because of corporate tax avoidance but as a necessity because the government spends WAY TOO MUCH on wasteful stuff. This "documentary" is getting so many things wrong and i hate Apple products and the company as a whole.
37:54 Err, we will be forced to replace our batteries in EVs once they have been on the road long enough. We are constantly hearing EV batteries will need to be replaced after 10 years. When people started realising there was no second-hand car market because if I buy my second-hand car for £4,000 and need to buy a replacement battery for £30,000, I may as well buy an ICE-powered car that will still be running decades after I purchased it just by taking care of it.
Why isn’t Chinese Government not doing anything against it? China is famous for horrible Labour conditions. It’s not an Apple issue, it’s a government issue accepting this kind of conditions. I would also habe appreciated to see how other tech companies are dealing with similar issues.
Like so many, it was the ubiquity of Apples in Higher Ed that caused me to be loyal to the brand. The designed obsolescence and Apple's rigidity about how buyers must confirm to their vision how to operate their products, has soured me on the brand. I use Apple because I don't want to have to replace everything. But I go to great lengths to avoid interacting with the Genius bar staff and really don't know what I will do when I have to replace my current tech to minimize my AI exposure.
Technology has advanced to such a user friendly degree, that the amount of restrictions placed on tech is very strange. Computers used to live exclusively in a world of pre builts for home use. Now, almost anyone can build a PC by themselves with very little knowledge as most everything is plug and play at this point. Your choices are really limited to intel vs AMD for processors, Nvidia vs AMD for GPU’s and everything else is just fluff. Phones were the start of locked in technology. Phones need to be more modular. I should be able to break open my phone and upgrade every component as I see fit, just like I do with my pc’s. As a society, we need to stop allowing people to contract our lives away with “leased products” that we have no true control over. Apple owns the phones, the software, the privacy statements. It’s insane. You spend $1,300+ on a device that you have absolutely 0 control over and are subject to the whims of the company. We have gone the wrong direction with technology when it comes to consumer rights.
As long as people follow the cult of Apple, the cult of Tesla, the cult of (insert your favorite giant here), they'll keep doing it. It works, people keep buying. If ppl don't revolt and demand their rights they sure as hell not going to give it to you. I'm happy to live with a dumb phone. It can ring and send sms, that's all I need it to do. I recently got a robot vacuum cleaner, and after testing it for a couple days I returned it to the store. When they asked why, and if there was something wrong with the unit, I just replied "The app can't run in "offline" mode (as in, without internet access), therefore, I might as well get a cheaper model, if I can't access the "smart" functions of the unit. I also didn't agree with their terms of services, that required me to update the unit every time a new firmware was out. If everyone in the world, stopped giving these companies the right to dictate what one can and can't do with the stuff yone payed and bought, and just return them to the store, then I can assure you they would stop this practice, or got belly up.
I disagree with Phones being the start of locked in technology. Mobiles started out with replaceable batteries, even my first Android 'smart phone' had old-skool replaceable battery. It was Apple who started it all with their locked in iPod music players. Now it is even more locked in even on the component level, need 'original' memory and internal SSD drives from Apple. In essence Microsoft and Apple have destroyed the open community spirit of earlier days of computer technology, climbed up the ladder and pulled it up with them. There is no garage tech startup these days, more a beautiful boomer story. Innovation and creativity ruined by big corps moving in to capitalize the f* out of everything. It is going downhill.
A very thurough and well done documentary! As an apple user I hadn't realized the extent that they go to to make a profit or how many workers are being mistreated along the way. This , of course , could be said of many companies that are extremely profitable. I think regulation is the way to help curb these tactics. I still beleive that Apple makes a great product and I do love the way Apple products seamlessly work together. I'm also not a guy that MUST HAVE the newest product. If what I have is working , why replace it? This " planned obsolecence " has to be stopped. I just had my iPhone 11 battery replaced by Apple for $130 canadian. Try buying a phone for that price. While doing the work, they broke my screen and replaced it at no cost to me. I now have a phone that works like brand new and I am very pleased with it. I'm not pleased that Apple will stop supporting it in September 2025.
My iMac 2012 is still going strong. You make it sound like the product has to be replaced soon. (And I've taken it appart several times to replace parts / improve it).

@@VanCityAdam Alas - that era has ended (though some intrepid people have in fact done memory upgrades and storage upgrades - not for the faint of heart). Spec it right and keep it a long time is what you do - note that built as a 2023 iMac is built (this one), reliability should be much higher.
The sale of products should be banned in any country they avoid tax in. Once they pay, the ban can be lifted. Simple, government needs to get tough on corporations. Consumers can help too by not buying products until the company pays its tax in full.
The latest Apple phones are banned in Indonesia because they failed to honour the investment contract they signed up to there. Taking vast profits from what are still 3rd world countries, while failing to comply with promises of investments to increase those economies isn't honourable or ethical. People love Apple because they don't know how the products work, they enable ignorance and laziness while rinsing your bank account...
Apple easily scores 2 out of 3 of those. But here's the thought of the day: 2x longevity at about 1.45x the price, is actually cheaper in "total cost of ownership" over the life of the product. So Apple is the closest company to getting your perfect 3/3.
I am an Android phone user personally and use an Apple phone from the company for business. I found iPhone less intuitive to use. Some functions take more steps to complete.
I just moved to an iPhone from many years as a Google pixel phone owner. And I swear the frustration in trying to do a simple copying a block of text, as in select all is unbelievably frustrating. So basic yet so difficult on iOS it’s ridiculous. Or going back and out of an app or a page which used to be a simple swipe to the right, is also incredibly difficult because Apple doesn’t seem to believe in swiping to go back that way. No doubt I won’t be able to select a text message to be sent at a later time either.
In 2017 I bought the last Apple products I'll every buy. After paying through the nose for a machine that broke down quickly, then having customer service act like bullies, I'm done. I've switched to Linux, which, BTW, runs my macbook better than the macOS did.
I watched Appel's birth and development. I really liked their operating system, I did not like the way the company functioned. At the beginning, I sensed that something was off. When I was teaching we used Appel products, I was very familiar, and proficient with them. As time went on it became clear that I really did not like what the company was doing. It was then that I was glad that I had never purchased, or owned an Apple Product - still don't and wont. I believe that if people "feel with their heart, act through their wallet, and look at all sides when thinking about purchases" the world would be a better place.
This documentary reminds me and validates why I walked away from Apple. I was a first-generation adopter, and it became clear. I wasn't buying Apple products to serve me. I was buying their products to serve them.
Exactly. I haven’t a house full of Apple stuff because I CHOOSE to buy it. It works well for me. When that ceases to be true, I’ll buy something else. “Tax avoidance”? Who, in their right mind, goes out of their way to pay MORE taxes? Hand a few billion MORE over to the US government to waste…

If it was just tax avoidance, is probably fine for the people, since the tax money are also not given to those in need. the issue is also its products are very costly and they make you need to spend more. the battery Apple uses is poor quality, the ipods are out of battery in about 2 years and we cant replace the batteries, if you want to use ipod, then you have to buy new ones. the macbooks those also same. I’m in the exact same boat here. I’m even still working on an older Mac Pro from mid 2008. It’s incredible how it still functions, upgraded to the maximum specs. Avoiding e-waste in here is actually the reason it is still alive.
Very interesting video on Apple, but It wasn’t mentioned that Apple is also very easy to use compared to PC. That’s actually the only reason I use Apple products.
Yeah I agree on that. Their trackpad functional feature is the best and smooth than windows laptop and the way to solve a software issue is quite simple than laptop. However one thing that keeps bothering me is for latest MacBook model if your SSD storage is failing you need to replace the whole motherboard which to me is not worthy in my opinion
Just the start of one of many CEO's/Company's/Stockholder board's who started the trend of screwed over their home country so they could add another swimming pool at another of their shoreline properties. I liked growing up in that era as I was in my 20-30's, now in hindsight I just wish I didn't waste my money on tech and instead put more of it on my sail boat and small plot of land with a greenhouse/motorbike shed I'm going to retire on to get away from society. You know the day is coming if you can't run the "subscription app" on it you aren't part of society, or at least that's what these company's want. .
One of the weirdest aspects about the company is Apple’s no-villain clause, which means that due to Apple’s rules around product placement in films and TV shows, villains and antagonists in films and TV shows cannot be seen to have or be using iPhones, iPods or Macbooks. So this type of product placement ends up being a constant "spoiler alert" for anybody following a movie plot or streaming series.
Yes, the tax laws need simplifying, removing loopholes, but you seem to not be concerned about the extinction of morality and ethical behaviour. People like Tim Cook are rapacious, greedy, slime balls who create nothing other than deception and marketing BS. Big tech is destroying life and society as we used to know it. Kids hooked on tablets and mobile phones and many adults too. I wouldn't expect geeks to recognise the damage they're doing, but non geeks ought to be capable of deeper thought.
As I get older and now that I'm retired, I watch the money that I throw around. I could afford to buy new Apple stuff but I choose not to. I'm 100% back to Android and the only reason I have a better phone, a Samsung S24 Plus is because of the promotion where I'm paying less than $5 a month for 2 years to own it. Even though I bought a M1 MacBook Air 4 4 years ago that I enjoy and it feels like a sports car when I use it, The laptop that's going to last me for a long long time is my upgradable, repairable Framework 13. It's a little more like a truck compared to the MacBook, but it's more than enough with the Intel i7 processor. I have the option of upgrading just the processor to AMD and the screen to a higher resolution screen without replacing the laptop. Even though I won't do it because it's doing a great job, it's nice to know I have that option.
Problem is that none of the smartphone manufacturers are different from Apple. At present we can show our resentment only by not buying any of them. Sad part is that practically it is impossible now unless everyone follows it. All smartphones are very expensive, all become obsolete after a few years (iPhone at least lasts for six to seven years), all have access to our data, all have security and privacy issues (again Apple is somewhat better), all entice people in buying newer devices. There’s literally no company which offers great quality, long lasting, and reliable product which is also ethically manufactured, maintained, and sold without evading taxes etc as brought to light in the video.
Great points. This applies to any number of consumer products and services. Pragmatically, you can’t realistically avoid every company that has questionable ethics, unless your intention is to live “off the grid”. We can’t change the system by avoiding the system entirely.
However…Apple could have made simple changes…like, spread production throughout the year, delay some shipments, etc. Their management hid many of the abuses from their customers and kept pressing ahead just to hit higher highs on deliveries and stock prices. That issue sits with their teams.
Lots of comments about the phone. For me, this video has nothing to do with the technological unrepairable. This is a video about the humanity or inhumanity imposed upon humanity. Evading taxes, slave labor to the point of death and suicides, Western exploitation creating hatred of the West personally one on one interactions of our inhumane treatment literally millions and millions of Chinese desperate for the promises of America brought to their shores. The Chinese remain bitter and continue to be poorly treated and exploited in the name record corporate profit. If they can do this to the chinese, can't they do this to anyone? And they are. Working for $2 an hour or less 20 hours per day with no days off until you are suddenly fired is how America has done the Chinese citizens, and they don't love us for it. The humanity of it all, that's what this story is about. It has nothing to do with computers or technology at all. You can replace the word computer and Technology with any other product, like a Presidential Election and the results are the same. It matters not if you buy an Apple product or some other product made the same way, by slaves in China, Vietnam, or India.
My iPhone XS that I bought more than 6 years ago is running the latest SW (18.2) and the battery is still at 88%. I'm super happy with it, it's so reliable I never knew how to do a power down reboot until I had had it for 3 years. It cost me 850 USD less the 250 I got for my iPhone 6S so that's been 2 dollars a week and should last me another couple of years yet. Lots of sensationalism, distortion and out lies in this documentary.
I believe that Apple dumb down her users. I have a colleague who became quite literally feeling lost and helpless when Facetime failed. He could not communicate with his family. I told him that there were other ways and showed him how.

And to think I remember when this company was on the brink way back when and then they came out with a little item called the "iPod" and it was a game changer. They took off after that. And now look at where they are.
The soundbites on this video flip between showing someone criticize Apple for doing X, then the next clip criticizing Apple for not doing X enough. And no one mentioning how they've walked this tightrope as honestly and geniusly like no other company to still delivering the best solution for everyone.
The problem is people think what you have makes you a better person. things don't make a person being human n feelings n thinking makes you who you are not things or products
My favourite Apple design philosophy is to make their products so fragile and unprotected that you have to purchase their accessories to protect and realistically use them. This is marketed as sleek, sexy and cool, but it’s actually poor design.
30:40 "company turning bad later". They still did. Sure, they gave the user the option to turn on/off certain options. But the company vaguely, if at all, mentions the tech or option like it's nothing. Then they bury that options so deep it's almost impossible to find, even for a tech savvy person. Same crime, different packaging.

@@got2bharmony So most companies should go out of business then as many of them practice designed obsolescence.

Hate the policy which makes eternal SW 'obsolete'. Apps that can't be bough, but only available as subscription services.

Show me the Giant and I will tell you the crime(s).

We call this: "Money-grubbing."
Yea, what a crazy realm we dwell in...somehow the rich become richer and their greed grows into pure evil while the rest of us get put in a box with no options...well that is what they would like for it to be like, but surely the soul they can never own and thank God it is so.
Apple created a hamster wheel for the mind
So has Samsung, Microsoft, and dozens of others...
@MultiTacs Indeed, if it wasn't them it would have been someone else.
The hamster wheel is a whole lot bigger than Apple, although they laid down a crucial part of the infrastructure and business model of it all.
I was an Apple fanboy. I even have Apple certificates hanging on the wall. But you can see Steve is gone. Apple will live on, but for me its not what i was a fanboy of. So i’m back to opensource products. Much more privacy :)

Dream on. There is no privacy anymore.
@@moow950 Doesn't mean you can't limit how much they get from you. It's actually not that hard cos for ad companies it's not worth to put effort into spying on users that fight against spying, as they are a very small minority.
large corporations like Apple have outgrown their ecosystem since we don't have governments that are able and willing to restrict the way those corporations operate. As a result, it's all about the money honey.
You can be pretty sure they are in close cooperation with the intel community or the security state. PR stunts like apple refusing to unlock criminals phones is a big tell. If it was actually true, I would find it outrageous.
Nothing shows money isn't a weapon like death. The wealthiest man in the history of Rome, Crassus, was ended by pouring molten gold down his throat. Great historical example that's worth following.
Very interesting video. You can learn a lot from it. Thanks for making this video. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it!
From the content of your life to your life is the content…
As a long time Apple user (since the early nineties), working in both graphic design and music production, I have decided that my next upgrade won’t be an Apple brand. Under mr Cook the Apple brand has turned around from innovative, repairable, upgradable and e-waste friendly into a money making scam machine. Shiny on the outside, but full of tricks under the hood. Just to let you throw away your perfectly working older device, and make you buy more expensive new devices.
The usury prices charged for the 'custom' upgrade parts, are a downer.
This video is compelling. I moved away from Apple back in 2014 or so, and it's been freeing. Way too many ads on this vid.
From Innovation to Greed driven company. RIP Steve Jobs vision
Steve Jobs was a monopolist from the start. He was also a high-class jerk who tried to cheat Wozniak out of his proper share of profits. I have never (and will never) own any Apple product.
@@warthog733 Started out with an iPod and iTunes, as I though a dedicated music solution would be better than my Windows WinAmp rig. Man, was that a downer. Happy user of iPads for Music creation though. That said, I have limited admiration for Jobs 'innovative' abilities. Much of his products seems to be rip-offs, although well done ones. I was doing mobile banking from my Nokia banana late 90's.
Let me tell you about my friend who worked at an Apple manufacturing company in China.
He worked for a while and suddenly was paralyzed on both his legs and he could n't walk.
when he checked with a doctor the nerve's on both his legs were damaged and as a result he just couldn't walk.
He simply coul'nt feel anything from his waist down.
He had to spend a month in the hospital to fully recover
He had to take physiotherapy as well for his full recovery.
The cause of this is due to exposure to the chemicals used on iPhone which is kept as a trade secret.
He now back to India and is doing fine.
(That’s what I thought Blackberry was doing)
The video addressed this actually. Because of the abuses, the younger generation will have resentment against the west which works in CCP's favor.
It's a problem from both sides, really.
@@FuriaDellaNotte I believe Foxcon is a Taiwanese company ... maybe they threaten to relocate to, say India. I would say it is a global problem.
Same to me. I have running today a number of iMac 2011 nad the Macmini made before the crappy 2014 release.
Of course using OSX 10.6.8 & 10.9, no newer versions, but still ok.
Cool. Now do that with a 2024 iMac.
@@VanCityAdam Alas - that era has ended (though some intrepid people have in fact done memory upgrades and storage upgrades - not for the faint of heart).

Apple easily scores 2 out of 3 of those. But here's the thought of the day: 2x longevity at about 1.45x the price, is actually cheaper in "total cost of ownership" over the life of the product. So Apple is the closest company to getting your perfect 3/3.
My next purchase will be Samsung, thanks for sharing this information.

So Apple is suppose to allow its competitors to dedicate terms and service??? This is an insane premise!
Familiar with concepts such as monopoly and usury ?
I watched Appel's birth and development. I really liked their operating system, I did not like the way the company functioned. At the beginning, I sensed that something was off. When I was teaching we used Appel products, I was very familiar, and proficient with them. As time went on it became clear that I really did not like what the company was doing. It was then that I was glad that I had never purchased, or owned an Apple Product - still don't and wont. I believe that if people "feel with their heart, act through their wallet, and look at all sides when thinking about purchases" the world would be a better place.
I use iphone imac and ipad but have only purchased used for $150 or less.
This documentary reminds me and validates why I walked away from Apple. I was a first-generation adopter, and it became clear. I wasn't buying Apple products to serve me. I was buying their products to serve them.
Just stop buying Apple products. Consumers can vote with their wallets.
@@left0verture Tax avoidance is an abuse of the legal system to avoid paying tax (aka their social responsibility to provide for the community services that we all rely on)

And this is why I have never bought any Apple product.
I never really understood people's obsession with Apple products. I've never owned an iPhone. I had to use one for work and I really hated it so much the closed ecosystem. Android user since 2010. It's true though. It took a few years for Android to mature and become a match to iOS. I've been using a free Moto G Stylus 5G 2024 and it leaves absolutely nothing to be desired when it comes to overall functionality, with the exception being the camera compared to flagships. My friends always ask me what kind of phone I use and they're impressed with the performance and fluidity of the display and system. I understand people will hate on me for sharing my thoughts. But it is gods honest truth. There's no need for most people to spend thousand of dollars every year to purchase the latest and greatest Apple churns out.
HDD cannot change.
Apple is truly an e-waste factory.
I like to think of myself as an Android owner, while iPhone owners aren't owners at all, they're only users.
Well said your ownership, well said.

Yes exactly. Clearly to not make people associate Apple with evil, which is exactly what a villain would do.
Looks like we're leaving the realms of marketing, and move into propaganda.
Don't vilify Apple and other tech companies for paying the least amount of tax as possible. Change the friggin' law!

Upgradebility has always bee in my minds. but, frankly most of my customer rarely upgraded the computer I sold custom made at all.
No no no... it's milk BUT it's white 🤣🤣🤣 Good one!
The problem is not apple, it's neo-liberal capitalism.
Dang liberals 🇺🇸🦅✊🏼
However…Apple could have made simple changes…like, spread production throughout the year, delay some shipments, etc. Their management hid many of the abuses from their customers and kept pressing ahead just to hit higher highs on deliveries and stock prices. That issue sits with their teams.
Yes the liberals bhahahah..... ignorance is bliss🎉😂
It’s capitalism. Period.
