    Sept. 2023 two year review and grade. Now it's 24 months old and I've used the trailer two dozen times.... I'd give this trailer a D+ or C- heres why.
    First month, paint peeled from the battery box, local body shop told me it wasn't primed correctly. Dealer was non-responsive when I tried to file a warranty claim. I painted the box myself.
    Next few months, trailer markers lights had poor connection and I re-wired them.
    12 month later the decals starting to peel off so I remove them as soon as they start to curl
    24 months old and about 24 dumps.... the driver side hydraulic cyclinder seal is leaking, had to be replaced by local hydraulic shop $391.38. The shop told me the seal cups were poor quaility. Now the trailer is out of warranty.
    When seraching for a dump trailer ask for references and call them to find out how the trailer is holding up. If they don't have refences....run and find another trailer company. - Bill 10/2023

    I recently sold my Big Tex dump trailer Bill. Mine was a 7'x14' gooseneck. It was 2000#s heavier than yours and had 7000# per axles. They are extremely nice and I miss it, but the reason I sold it was it was too heavy built for my truck. I need to replace it with one like yours. I think my truck would handle a trailer like that. I liked how yours is built, and the features you explained are second to none. Really a nice trailer you have.

    Excellent review, Bill. Doo Little thought of the little things that make using this dump trailer easier. In your research, and it looks like you spent a good amount of time, what was the price range of similarly sized dump trailers.

    • @billburkhart
      @billburkhart  3 года назад

      Hello Jeff, I did quite a bit of shopping as I love the hunt as much as the purchase. I was seeing a lot of $9000 price points. But Doo little had extra features that made the 10k price tag reasonable, considering the features and the quality of the steel, paint, door operation and the wireless control. Thanks for taking time to say hello I appreciate it have a great week.

    After a bit of research I like the telescopic three stage lifting arrangement.
    What floor gauge floor steel?
    7 guage is good for heavy equipment, I think.
    Sides, maybe 10 gauge if handling hard heavy items ie large rock, hardwood firewood etc.
    Concerned with waving on 16” This depends on what you haul of course and how you load.
    12” o c doesn’t seem to add too much extra weight from reading.
    Support stands are always a good consideration when loading and off loading equipment.
    Overall the quality of your Doo Little is impressive as compared to other units and I really like the finish.

    • @billburkhart
      @billburkhart  2 года назад +1

      Happy Sunday evening Saved by Grace. The floor and walls are 10 gauge, and I agree with your comments on the telescopic hydraulic lift, but this is what was available and like you wrote it’s pretty good quality. Thanks for taking time to comment and say hello.

    Have you hauled your tractor in the Doolittle? I am looking at a dump trailer for more functionality; I hope to replace my 16 foot flat trailer. I have a Kubota 25D with hoe and loader. I think your tractor is a tad bigger, but somewhat equivalent.

    • @billburkhart
      @billburkhart  2 года назад

      Good morning Drew. I have not put the tractor in the dump trailer because the loading ramps are too short. I’ll continue using my flat trailer until I get longer ramps. I’m not comfortable using the short ramps because it too steep.
      Good luck with your decision. -Bill

    I know you've got a 1500 Silverado with a V8 Bill, but I was curious if you think a six cylinder Colorado/Canyon would be able to tow one of these trailers properly equipped? I'm thinking of getting one of these down the line.

    • @billburkhart

      Hi Robert, I’d have a hard time recommending anything smaller than a half ton. My Silverado does a nice job and sometimes I wish I had a 3/4 ton. If you were my brother I’d tell you to stay with a half ton.

    Bill, another well done video. Would really like to have a dump trailer, just can't justify the cost. The trailer looks like it has some really nice features on it. The wireless remote and the 110 charging are really nice extras. If you need somewhere to store it when you aren't using it, you can bring it to Missouri and I will take care of it for you. Looking forward to the next video.

      Good morning MD H, I agree with your comments, except Missouri is a little bit further than I’d like to drive to store it ha ha. I also agree with your comment about justifying the cost, hope to use it for the next 8 to 10 years and be able to recoup 75% of my cost, oh well we’ll see. Have a great weekend.

    The paint peeling, could it be powder coat? I see big trucks with sheets of paint the size of both your hands coming off their frame and driveshaft. Sprayed on the steel without primer and baked. Moisture gets under it and it bubbles and off it comes.

    • @boydmasonlake1995
      @boydmasonlake1995 3 года назад +1

      Doolittle takes pride in the fact that they don't powder coat. Don't Remer process

    • @billburkhart
      @billburkhart  3 года назад

      Yes the unnamed trailer touts powder coating and I am learning that’s not the process I used to think it was.
      Someone told me, so take that into consideration, that powder coating is easier to meet EPA regulations rather than spraying in a paint booth. We’ll see.

    Hey Bill,
    I see you live near Dubuque,. I do too. I have noticed your stops are Milo and Roeders in some of your videos. Where did you purchase your Doolittle trailer? I am hoping to have a similar set up in the next few years.

    • @billburkhart
      @billburkhart  2 года назад +1

      Hi Travis, stop at Roeders and work with Casey, he'll give you the best price on a new trailer. If that doesn't work I've purchased trailers before at the Avalon Garage.
      One more tip, get under the trailer before you purchase any trailer and look for proper painting. Doolittle didn't wrap the primer around the front steel in several locations and the paint is peeling after only 4 weeks. Also, plug in the lights, with the shorter days I just discovered I have an LED not working already. I should have caught these when I picked the trailer up.
      Otherwise I'm very happy with the trailer so far.

      @@travismoore3775 Good morning Travis, I haul the 2038 on an 18 foot car hauler. Looking back I wish I had purchased a 16+4 tilt bed trailer. Since the dump is 12 foot long, I can only haul the tractor and bucket, so I’ll continue using the car hauler. Enjoy the nice weather we’re having.
