In the UK the average house looks like a shoebox, houses here are often very dull and claustrophobic with very few bathrooms. And for £485k, you are unlikely to even get a house (in London), you would possibly only be able to purchase a flat (apartment). It looks like houses in the US are much better than the houses in the UK.
Its because there is housing crisis in uk. There is not much land to build houses first of all. Usa and Canada is huge compared to uk. On top uk is a highly populated country. So of course housing in uk will be much expensive. Look at dhaka and sylhet. Hope it clears up. There is not much difference between incomes of usa/uk citizens but yes the living expenses differ to an extreme degree.
