  • Welcome to Sonne Farms! On this channel we showcase numerous jobs a Corn/Soybean/Beef producing operation takes on each day. Hop in the cab or sorting alley with Cole, Brian, and Jeff, to see how life really is for the people that help feed the US and the rest of the world. In addition to Corn, Soy, and Cattle, Sonne Farms puts up grass and alfalfa and sells pure bred Black Angus Bulls in South Dakota.
There are a few rocks in this field, thinking thats what stopped they baler, as that is often the issue.

Brian, we’re about the same age I’m guessing. I grew up on a farm and cattle operation and that’s all I ever wanted to do. The circumstances of life ruined those plans unfortunately.
I know you’ll never see my comment, but I want to thank you for being a good man and a good father. When I watch you and Cole working together it sometimes brings tears to my eyes because my own father was a mean angry man and I don’t have any good memories of him on the farm.
I actually took over the entire operation at age 14 for my FFA project while my dad went back to college to change careers. I ran the farm by myself for 5 years very successfully until it became unbearable to be around my dad.
If my father had been like you then I probably would have continued with farming and ranching and my kids would have been the 5th generation of farmers but it was untenable.
Again, thanks for being such a good dad. You can be proud of your son. You two make a good team. Well done Brian.

I agree with some of the commenters. Even if you think it will never leave the back corner of the shop, set it up, with all the squares, clamps, gloves, rods, etc. on a trailer. Don't even need wheels on it if you don't like watching the tires rot, just make sure they are standard lugs so you can scrape a couple together in an hour or so over at the co-op.

Last summer I never stop feeding hay. Had a 3 mile wide wild fire rip threw my farm too. September came and I got rain only a quarter of an inch. Freaking then winter came. Weirdly enough last summer with no rain. I managed to have more hay then years prior. My neighbors gave me 20 free crab grass bales (I thought it had stickers of Johnson grass but no) and I shared crop some hay with an other neighbor and then I gone to an auction at another neighbor farm and battle to the death for some concrete feed bunks. I survive so i got them. traded 2 out of 8 for 10 alfalfa hay bales then on my lease I had millet planted and I shared crop it into hay with the land owner. Good thing I don't have a lot of cattle cause I swear I never had grass green.

You will love that stout generator capacity if you have long-term power outages. Back in ‘09 we had a massive ice storm and my power was out for about a week. I have a Miller 225G on a factory trailer and I just backed it into my front yard and ran an extension cord in the window and stayed pretty comfortable. Of course, my wood stove didn’t hurt things either. 🔥

Cole & Brian, I'm glad you are glass half full kinda people. When I see your hay and alfalfa crop this year it makes me wonder how the corn and soybeans are doing. This coming winter would be trying times for me were I in your boots. It takes a special person and I'm guessing this ain't your first rodeo. Hoping you corn is a defensive hybrid and not a racehorse.

We bought one last year. We love it. The day we bought it my old China welder that I had had ten years bit the dust. We had a Miller welder that was given to us and it was on a trailer. We ranked it off a put the Lincoln on it. Then we welded our old air compressor in the front and the torch on the side. Works so good.
