Another masterpiece written by James Pankow with lead vocal by Terry Kath who also sang lead vocal on another Pankow masterpiece Ballet For a Girl in Buchannon [Make Me Smile, Colour My World, Now More than Ever]
Best part of the song is when all the voices come in to sing, “Still I can recall…the happy times…. Was it years ago or just a day? When you turned to me, said goodbye-aye. “

Just saw Chicago at the Venetian in Las Vegas - more new faces in group - but seems the time off due to Covid has reivegetated the original members- Robert, Jimmy & Lee -- Great performance by all -- had entire theater standing and joining in on some original songs -- they are great.
I wish that this whole concert at the Aire was available on DVD....hoping that someone will release the footage!!!! Chi at their PRIME!! And of course I can't resist commenting on how great Peter's bass line is on this song....L-O-V-E IT!
Good news, but it'll cost... Rhino released this about ten years ago in the 'Chicago: The Box' (box set). Five cd's of remastered music, plus a bonus dvd with the entire Arie Crown Theater broadcast from 1972.
After guitarist-extraordinaire Terry Kath, saxophonist Walt Parazaider had the most solos of Chicago's original solos in the group's salad days. It's easy to see why.
The current touring band is a small shadow of the great band they were in their early days when they had Terry Peter and Danny. The energy they exuded doesn’t exist in their performances today. Sad but true.
Yeah Bill Tuttle, Most people don't know this but this song was the last song of the night for a whole week of concerts (and then they stopped playing it altogether) because Walt's fingers always fell off at the end of the song. (8^)
@@zgfitI think he quit drugs earlier than that. The only ones really writing songs in the late 70s were Peter and Danny. Sure Lamm and Pankow had a few here and there, but Peter was getting ready for his solo career.
@@TMG3636Actually, he quit drugs and smoking somewhere in the late 70s, I think right after Terry died. He started taking better care of himself, getting in shape when his band members were all druggies. Danny and him were the only ones who were clean and wrote songs when everyone else got burnt out. But as a singer, he should never have smoked.
Seven musical geniuses in one band. Chicago is my desert island choice. Not even close.
The good old days of the REAL Chicago.
This COULD BE Chicago's best song ever. It's got EVERYTHING in it.
walt is a total maniac !!! grreat sax solo !!! seriously, listen to a great rock band at the top of its game--chicago is underrated as a great band--
I agree, what a great saxophonist ❤

The talent to pull this off is untouchable
Fan from the BEGINNING, its taken me till my 60s to fully realize how great these guys were!
Me too.
One of my absolute favorite "lesser known" songs from my all-time favorite band. Thanks for sharing!!
I agree 100%. This, and "Now That You've Gone".
Make Me Smile 2.0
so much soul in Terry's vocals. Peter's bass lines are wicked!
Even today, they sound terrific in concert with 3 of the original members!! Don't miss them if you can see them!
Proud owner of EVERY Chicago Album/CD,even 21.They came to play & play they did!
What do you mean even Twenty1? That was a great album. I own every Chicago album too, except for their various compilation albums.
Danny Seraphine was a badass drummer!
Ruel Motos - Danny still is a bad-ass drummer!
Chicago V near perfection!
This Pankow gem should have been released as a single.
Agreed!

Yeah, Terry’s singing 🎤 and guitar 🎸 playing, and the rest of the band rocks out on this cool tune!
Saturday in the Park and Dialogue were the two singles that came from this album, did they release another song from this album as a single?
One of the great songs every written. So much is packed into just a few minutes.
Just saw Chicago at the Venetian in Las Vegas - more new faces in group - but seems the time off due to Covid has reivegetated the original members- Robert, Jimmy & Lee -- Great performance by all -- had entire theater standing and joining in on some original songs -- they are great.
Favorite song from their best album
Mine, too ...
I forgot how cool this song is. Thanks for posting video
The getting ready footage is priceless !
I'm with you, it's great isn't it!😊
Wow!!!!! Blast from the Past!!!! My Youth! I Love Chicago!!!!!
Holy mackerel what a band!

They had several primes.

Yes, this was the most real Chicago!
One of my favorites
Cetera with his feathered hair and facial hair look of 1972 and 1973.
Awesome Chicago tune.

best horns ever
Caracoles!!! mi querida banda Chicago haciéndola de tos con esta" ahora que te has ido " toda excelente no hijos te hace vibrar acá
😮love you Chicago! ❤
Grandes por siempre. Viva Yeste y San Bartolo
Great horns in this song , never perform it anymore, have seen them numerous times when in NYC area.

Como se te extraña Terry!!!!!

But we'll always have those great first 5 or 6 albums.
Yeah Bill Tuttle,
Most people don't know this but this song was the last song of the night for a whole week of concerts (and then they stopped playing it altogether) because Walt's fingers always fell off at the end of the song.

right on!
he's so good those girls at 6:04 didn't know what to do with themselves :P
Yesssssssssssssss!
Sounds different from the studio version.
Obviously, Terry, Lindsey and Jimi are the greatest guitar players ever...
Sax!
Rocks
How did Bill Bixby get into the crowd at 2:16?
Awesome! Thank you bze2nlz1 for the heads up :-D...MUCH APPRECIATED!!
Cetera running his bass line on a Gibson Ripper, rather than on his normal Fender Precision.
Gibson EB-3
Looking at Walt's perfectly straight hair makes me wonder what the hell he was thinking when he had it permed for the 13th album...I blame disco.
Walt appreciation comment.
It's Harold Ramis.
When did this performance take place????
Perhaps in 1971...?
Does anybody know?
Not realeased till 72... 👍

thanks! :--))
Cetera *smoked*!? I thought w a voice like his he’d have treated it with kid gloves. Wonder when he quit?
1981. He stopped drinking, smoking,& drugs. Started working out & lost 50lbs. He got married & then his 1st daughter was born in ‘83.

Why did it take soo long for Chicago to get into Rock and Roll hall of fame?
Politics, what else.
@@decacards5250 and at least one personal grudge held by an influential arse with the Rolling Stone mag.
Because the hall of fame sucks.
the real Chicago died with Terry.
nie to pravda len jeden z troch hlavných autorov a spevákov...bez dychovej sekcie by nemali taký úspech
Is it just me, or does Peter Cetera look like Cousin It from the Addams Family in this video?
Lol, they all had long hair back then, that was the look.
I didn't know Peter smoked.
Amy Collins. He smoked back then, drank and did drugs. He quit everything when he left the band.

What's with the added applause??????? Great song messed up by someone who had an idea 💡 🤔
Terry was the one and only bandleader, after his deatht he band band becomes a pop band charachter totally boring...money makes the world etc
