    Probably one of the best and most in-depth/informative reviews I’ve seen of the D3 :)
    Well done my man. I love my 2009, 161k miles on it, had it for 3 years now. Plan to get at least 300k out of the big beast.
    Note: the A8 doesn’t have the plastic timing chain guides like the slightly older 4.2 in the pre-2007 C6 A6 and B6 S4. In these cars, the guides themselves are steel as well. Have no fear of chain issues on these.
    Please post more stuff of it!

      @@Nordic_Mechanic Dude! I’ve seen your vids. That car is a champion lol. Hopefully I could get somewhat close to that with mine.
      By the way, I was originally looking for a older timing belt models (2004-2006). It needs the belt service, but it has its positives, no carbon buildup, no common injector failures, don’t have to worry about high pressure fuel pump problems etc.
      Nonetheless I’m very happy with the car, I’ve had great luck with the suspension thankfully. Most annoying problem I’ve had was it started eating new batteries, after 3 battery swaps a mechanic was able to diagnose with a faulty XM satellite radio module through VCDS (uhhh...), I told him to deactivate it, and all electrical problems gone.
      They are great cars, but they do need attention.

    • @Nordic_Mechanic

      @@Divine_Serpent_Geh That car racked up the miles so quickly it wasnt worth buying it and parting it out. Im sure that's what saved it and it was simply passed from faithful owners to faithful owner. Good service and my front suspension gave up at 539 000km. I only replaced the srpings and good to go. NEVER replace dampers they NEVER fail.
      Here's my secret to long lasting air spring. Get that air compressor out every 2 years and either replace or dry the pellets in it. It keeps moisture away. Moisture in components breaks and rot components. Simple design and durable. I've just fixed another a8, 2005 and she went pass 400 000 (250 000miles) before first failure. Compressor was thinkered with, so it was most likely dried .
      There's a few things wrong in the electrical system on your cars. Easy fix thanks to how precise the computers are in the a8. Easy to pinpoint problem. I've even covered the parking brake issue in one of my videos.
      Have fun, sub to me, save money and enjoy the car. The carbon buildup is not a deal breaker. Oh also check thermostat housing, that one is a PITA on the fsi but again. Runs some top of the line oil to keep chains happy, never defer maintenance and you'll be good to go.
      I don't know your level of skill with fixing cars but get vcds. If you're afraid to mess things up, only use it to read codes and you'll have everyone helping you (including me) in no time.

    Really enjoyed the video, it defnitely cleared my doubts about the Audi A8 D3. I'm thinkng about buying and Audi A8 D3 as daily driver and keep it, I was initially interested in buying an S8 D3, but it seems that this one, between every A8 D3 model, the S8 its the most expensive to fix and the one most likely to break down overtime, so right now I'm leaning more towards to the Audi A8 D3 4.2 V8, which seems to be, the most dependable one. I would like to know, If you could give me this information, how much did you spent with all the repairs and everything that had to be done in order to get your car fixed and ready to drive.
    Thanks in Advance.

      I have a 2009. It has 161k miles on it. I love the big beast. I’ve had very few problems with since buying it at 102K. The biggest thing I had to replace was the alternator. Everything is pretty routine stuff: tires, oil, spark plugs, coils that is very manageable on your own.
      When testing these cars... TEST them before you buy. Check the electronics, of course, make sure the engine runs nice and smooth. Very important: check the air suspension and make sure all of the suspension modes work and operate as normal (no grey settings, everything should be selectable).
      Overall, for the spaceship that it is, it’s pretty reliable. Buy the best example you can, it will be less trouble in the long run.
      Good luck 👍

A direct comparison between the two if difficult but when I still owned the D3, and tested the D4, the D4 was way better. Of course, it was brand new, and everything was "tight". • @AshShearer
      @AshShearer 3 года назад +2

      Good service history, all electrics work, make sure to cycle the air suspension through dynamic, comfort and lift a couple of times to make sure it raises and lowers properly without raising a code. Engine mounts usually let go. The left headlights level control seem to be an issue from my experience. Make sure they auto level properly.
      Check for coolant leaks. Everything is water cooled on these and so have lines everywhere. The oil cooler coolant line can be an issue as well as alternator coolant.
      The D3's have plenty of quirks but if you find a well maintained, low mileage A8 with no electric or mechanical issue's, you will enjoy driving them.
      If you are at all hands on with cars, I would suggest buying a Ross Tech VCDS dongle/software for checking fault codes, coding etc.

    Once a year (otherwise the fuel tanks can corrode), I would use BG’a 401K fuel system cleaner. It’s the absolute best and should keep that carbon buildup to a minimum.

    • @kinderutz
      @kinderutz 3 года назад +7

      Ummm 100% no. 😂
      Fuel tank is plastic composite and does not corrode.
      The FSI engine shoots fuel in the combustion chamber, the injector is inside the cylinder head so none of that fuel gets in the intake ports....you can add unicorn tears and it won't help with carbon buildup one bit.
