  • Held on November 7th, 1963 at the Lyceum Ballroom in London. Winner was Jamaica's Carole Joan Crawford.

    So this was the FIRST time that that A woman of color won ANY of the big 4 pageants! I thought for sure that the first time was 1970! My apologies to Jamaica

      Yes! Many have been saying that Jennifer Hosten of Grenada was the 1st Black woman to be Miss World. But Carole Crawford was actually the first. I believe she was more mixed race; with a Black father & White mother. Still with this heritage she would not have been able to represent say, South Africa. Most would probably classify her as Black. Jennifer Hosten was just more identifiably Black. And I do believe that Carole was either on the cover or had a featured article in Jet magazine the year she won. Jennifer also.
