- I am happy when a brand decides to put it heart and soul in a watch and back it up with good ideas and technology
This ICHNOS Capo Testa is such a watch
I share my thoughts on this watch and ask, what do you thjink about the price /tech ratio?...is the watch worth the money?

Thanks for watching..
I own this exactly version. One of the founder, the Undersea Time channel's owner, is a personal friend.
This watch is made with passion for watch lovers by a watch lover
I think it’s terrific and actually worth the money. I (someone who would have to save up for a while to purchase it) am clearly not their target customer. It’s for someone who can easily purchase this watch and is looking for something different. Thanks for the great review!
I own an Ichnos Capo Testa Rena di Ponente and it's a great watch, so I appreciated your review about it.
This is not inexpensive, but I think it offers a lot: an original design, a very solid movement, one of the best bracelets I've ever experienced and some amazing dials, if you want to dare a little bit. When I wear my Rena di Ponente, it actually seems to wear the sea on the wrist. And last, but not least, Pierpaolo is a special person. I can only say good things about this brand. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed at all!
Nice looking watch. Spec monster for sure. That being said, that price puts it in some really competitive territory with bigger brands and personally I’m going with a Sinn or something along those lines for the price.
Microbrand aside , the watch taken as is , definitely worth the price, a unique design and quality build and specs , if it had a well known established brand name would we even be asking?
That is a tough call. With all those specs it justifies the watch's price, especially when they are a microbrand so they can't produce these in larger batches. It is a beautiful watch, and if only it was a tiny bit smaller like 38mm. Thank you for sharing this review and promoting microbrands! Another great video. Cheers
Nice looking watch. Love the colorway and graphics. Reminds me of my Certina DS Super PH500M with high gloss, screw down bezel, and the push to turn action.
Looks good, price is fine for me. Trying to sway someone from not buying a Sinn 104/105 will be the real challenge here.
If you want something else, this might be a good pick.
Complimenti per il video e le belle immagini. Se amate gli orologi questo non può mancare in collezione di sicuro non vi deluderà.
This watch reminds me a Jeep specced up beyond the limits that will never see a dirty trail. There are also too many “borrowed” elements in the design. Great review, as always!
I think ALL brands borrow something from someone 👍
A great looking watch , with great specs. In my opinion it's well worth the money. I really enjoyed the review.
Thanks Peter. I really like the aesthetics of this piece. While I understand that the lack of perceived dial space may not be to everyone’s taste, I personally love the character that a top hat style crystal gives.
As far as the price goes, as much as it may be a nice initial experience when first receiving the watch in a beautiful box, I would rather pay less for the watch and make do with a simple box that will only sit empty in a cupboard anyway.
Couldn't agree more...that box is not going to do much for you once the watch is out of it 😊
I think we are at the point where Micros really can deliver a proper high end watch that’s definitely worth its money. This one is totally worth the money! A real beauty! The only issue with many expensive micros is resale value. How much will we get back if we are serial flippers who wear for a year and want to move on? That’s always my worry with $1,000 a $2,000 plus micros. Either way. Thanks for introducing us to this watch.
Re sale has always been an issue for sure
That said, if I was to sell some of my mainstream majors, Id loose more than half of what they cost new as well..
@ Absolutely. I think a micro sweet spot for someone selling down the line is around 500. You can usually get something feature dense and not lose a ton of cash. But numbers are boring. Just buy what you like and enjoy 😉
great beautiful watch, in person you understand the excellent work done. the entire ichonos line is made to amaze. the founders are passionate collectors and care a lot about their customers. It is truly worth everything it costs.
To me it seems at least partially justified at the price. It's offering a rather unique set of specs and technical functionality which are rare to get in this market segment, so they're still making some of this more attainable. Still, it's obviously a quite expensive watch and one also needs to like a watch. For those feeling they need the functionality, it may be a no brainer. It doesn't appeal to me, though. I'd tend to agree on the crystal. A double domed with less distortion would seem more appropriate here.
Just spent my cash for this year, but I am keeping an eye on these. Some unique, yet familiar design elements. Very nice. BTW @ 4:00 I just use a smidgen blue loctite on my screws and they stay. ;)
Super cool brand and a fantastic brand owner 👍🏻👍🏻, keep your eyes open it’s coming another model soon 🤩
Whilst that date is fairly well hidden, those cardinal indicies would have made a great place to sneak in a date at either 3 or 6
I reckon the price would be ok with the recommendations, possibly the corse bolt changing to a fine toothed locking mechanism as found on the back of Rolex / Tudor case backs.
First of all, thank you Mr. Peter Kotsa for this desire to travel, free of charge, to the peninsula on the north coast of the island of Sardinia.
And what else...a beautiful timepiece whose value is probably based on confidence in a perfect harmony of functionality and aesthetics, with attention to detail and craftsmanship.
You can include me on that travel part...when are we leaving?..😊
When the sale takes me away...And it will be great pleasure that I will share this pleasant squall.
A good afternoon. I start my day.
Seems to be worth it especially if you're looking for a purpose driven diver and appreciate their design language which I do Thanks for sharing as always my friend Be well and Big blessings 👍
Totally agree. If the watch will be used for its designed purpose it’s a bargain.
It's stupidly expensive, if it turns out not to suit you the secondary market will destroy it, if you can even sell it..
Complimenti Pier, Peter è il top!
I'm not the target audience, but it looks like a good value watch.
Why did they bother with an iron cage? The LJP movement is already EM resistant.
So over water resistance here. I don’t even go swimming that much, never mind diving to 400m. Sheeet
It's undoubtedly worth it when you consider specs against comparably priced swiss big brands but it's just such a tough sell for micros at that price range. I wish you hadn't pointed out the alignment of the bolt. I'd never be able to unsee that.
Hahaha...I had to point it out.
Honestly though its a very reassuring thing IMHO
If it was just aesthetics and was misaligned Id be all over it in the gripes section.
Worth it!
Yeah, go for it😅
Looks cool but if was going down the maga diver route dir an extra few bucks i would definitely go for the Bohen grande marine.
Please try and get the Bohen pete!
Hi Luke, I have never heard of the brand..I will have a look at their website
Grazie Pete!!! And with that i am out of Italian. Now, i really like this one. Love the design elements and the engineering begind it. The price, while not inexpensive, i believe it is absolutely fair for what this watch packs, no issues with me on price. Having said this, i wish the lume was stronger, and i wish they had used a double domed crystal. Incorporate these two changes and imho this watch is 100% awesome 👌
I know a few Italians words too brother, I learnt them when I was in High School and probably not appropriate 😂
Thanks for watching and sharing 👍👍
@@PeterKotsa🤣😂
Peter would be nice to hear a review of a Helm Vanuatu, your personal take on the watch would be nice, ive had mine 3 months for the price it is outstanding.
Ive heard nothing but praise for the brand personally, even though I have never handled one 👍
I like that a lot. My only gripe (understanding that I haven't seen it in person, mind you...) would be the different "tips" on the hour and minute hands. I think that would annoy me. As for the price, I don't think it's outrageous. It's on the expensive side, sure, but you get a lot of watch for your money. Which makes me wonder what brand is this watch trying to compete with? The closest I can think of would be some of the offerings from Ball. When you look at it like that, it's not out of line at all. Of course, that brings me back to "Why not just buy a Ball watch then?" Well, I guess that's up to personal taste. Good review, Pete. I like this one quite a bit.
Good *advertisement
From first minute i thought it is Omega Planet Ocean look alike :)
I do own a couple of dive watches without using them for diving, some of them rated 300 m, one by Christopher Ward even 600 m. They packed a lot into this watch, and created a real tool watch, I get it. But all this overengineering comes at a cost: I have to say in my eye, the watch isn't particularly beautiful, it's too thick and the non-aligned bezel would bug me. But it's a good watch that'll serve its purpose, no doubt.
Nicely said Alex 👍
Generally nice design and specs. A bit pricey to compete with so many offerings in the market space it's in.
I would say the "bolt" around the crystal not being perfectly aligned would be annoying visually for me. And, I agree, the crystal used is wrong..I like some distortion at certain angles. But, this is too heavy where all the details get distorted like 90% of the time and make it near unreadable which is too much. I've sold some nice watches for this strong reason.
Looks like a near miss Pete? Specs look great even at the price I reckon that’s fair (what would a known brand name charge for similar??) but I agree that crystal needs to show more dial, it has a bit of a “ port hole” look for want of a better word. The Bracelet on the other hand 👍👍👍 cheers brother.
Thanks for sharing Curt and agreed bro 👍
I can almost buy a recognised brand like Tudor for that sort of money. It looks nice and may be great but it's very expensive for a micro-brand. Not sure about the domed glass? Thinner is better as far as I'm concerned.
Ichnos is greek word and means Trace. Beautiful watch good review and of course expensive watch as always 😎
Im trying to find some cheaper watches but the next few reviews coming up are a little steep..sorry 😊
For every wallet so to speak.
Ichnos is the ancient Greek name of Sardinia: where this watch company was born and is settled.
get the baltany 36mm explorer with brown dial....WOW!!! just got mine
Cute watch. I don't understand the logic of the education price of micro brands. For 2k euros you can buy a famous Swiss brand.
Build a quality watch with such these specs is expensive. Doesn't matter if you are a famous Swiss Brand or a Micro. If your idea is that an emerging brand has to be cheap, I accept it but i don't agree. Quality can't be cheap but quality watches can be offered by a microbrand at a cheaper price than a traditional luxury brand due to the fact that their business models and company costs are different.
Microbrands do not produce anything themselves, do not develop anything, they have no history. Everything is bought on the side and assembled into a finished product. The Chinese do the same, but 10 times cheaper. The price of these watches, like any other similar ones from new brands with luxury quality is a maximum of 1k euro.
@@lifeHater777 Your comment denotes limited knowledge of the subject. The assumption that a microbrand is necessarily an assembler of standard components is baseless. I personally know the company owner and the details of the project in question and I guarantee you that most of the components are made to a proprietary project. Is the Capotesta made by external suppliers? Yes. Is it made with standard components that can be purchased in stock on the market? No. You will not find a bracelet like the Capotesta one in the world, nor a similar clasp. Same goes for the case. The LJP caliber _ of course _ is supplied, although relatively uncommon and in the soignè version. You can legitimately believe that you are not interested in spending that amount of money on a microbrand but don't make the mistake of associating Ichnos with any San Martin, Addiesdive and so on.
@@brennozuccarello8050 it's not about knowledge, but about understanding and you don't understand me! the point is that micro brands usually have only partially new designs. the rest of the elements are borrowed from outside and have already been used. where are your arguments in favor of history and mechanisms? Such products are needed first of all to provide higher level products at a lower price, and there is none here! For this money you can buy an Omega, yes, it will be used, but it is an Omega or other AAA brands. in this price range the choice is HUGE.
i'm not going to argue with you any further because because of consumers like you, normal people have to overpay for no reason! I specifically looked at the bracelet in the video and it is very similar to what San Martin has, and they in turn copied it from a vintage submariner, only the external polish is slightly different! The only unique thing here is you. Apparently, you get the money for free.
Price is fine I think. A lot of watch for a damn site less than the likes of an Omega. However I don’t like the name, the blue AR, the distortion, the bracelet rivets, the small dial face size.
I do like the numbers within the indices though.
The hour hand looks awkward as hell. Besides that its not a bad looking watch.
Pete, what's with the casting couch? I'm waiting for something to happen and I just end up buying another watch 🤣
No doubt it is an ultimate package deserved some serious amount but overall it seems a little pricey.
Is it too expensive? Hmm...let's see. You can get an Oris Aquis for $2600 with only 300 m WR, unregulated SW200 movement with 38hr PR, crown guards (🤬), no Faraday cage (which may or may not be a good thing) and no on-the-fly adjustment.
Or, you can spend half of that money and get tons of upgrades.
$1650 sounds like a steal to me.
Good comparison..👍
That distortion is a tough pill to swallow, seems to go against the identity of a purpose driven tool watch when you can’t get an easy precise read on the time
I think so too. A nice double dome or even flat sapphire would have done this more justice here IMHO
£ for £ over priced if you compare it to the Helm Vanuatu.
I like it but for that money I'd buy a yema for the same kind of price
Went to their site and couldn't even sign up for their newsletter, unfortunately...
Hi! Sorry for the inconvenience, I'm Pierpaolo, founder of Ichnos Watches and thank you for your interest. Unfortunately we had technical problems in in the last period and we are moving everything to a new lighter and more usable site, with a translation for the main languages of the world. By the beginning of next week everything should be ok
That bolt design is lazy considering the price. It can 100% be designed to align perfectly, it just costs more
It's less than half the price of a Tudor. Why do we let the big brands off the hook?
Very true..👍
Lost me at dimensions almost 15mm thick.. YIKES!
Including 4mm domed crystal. The case itself is under 10mm
Mismatched hands....ugh.
1.695,00 Euro 🤔
Okay…….
Get an original. Get a Squale.
And you can pick one up much cheaper.
The dial is nice looking, but the crystal let's it down big time. Far too much distortion around the edges. Half the money probably goes on the watch thicknes. The hour hand is just ugly.
That's my bitch session for today. $1200 max.
Someone else please buy it and take the 50% depreciation hit Then you can sell it to me for its actual value.
😊
Dear me, from double dome crystal, date window to bolt and dial all looks ugly in my eyes. Only bracelet looks decent....and the price..my goodness. You just have to ask yourself if you bought this watch and you didn't like it how much you could sell it for ...?
Ichnos... sounds like a tropical fish disease.
Ichnos is the ancient name of Sardinia, the italian island where the founder belongs.
Almost 2k$ for an unknown, horribly named watch. Oh and it's 15mm thick ?? Hahahahhaa pass
15mm thick including 4mm domed crystal. The case itself in uder 10mm...
When are companies going to present the product in a recycled cardboard box, all this pointless gimmicky product presentation packaging inevitable ends up as more pointless landfill.
Agreed,
Someone should tell that to Omega, Patek and all the majors who provide these expensive boxes which we store away for many years
Don't worry about the economy, bro, Trump's going to fix it.
😊
