Until the end of everything? Do we have to keep going on forever? For how long? Do we have to keep going on Forever and ever? Teach me the music that will last Beyond the end of everything A melody sung over and over at the end of the world Something to hum while imagining this moment I will be the one singing it Do we have to keep going on forever and ever? Even if you understood, it wouldn't make sense to you Just like feelings don't make sense to me.
Interpretation: before this song, Animal (the other major character in the opera, who I believe is meant to represent humanity as a whole) offers to "become one" with Miku, to show everyone how close to humanity she is. Like the rest of THE END, this movement is deeply concerned with themes of identity, existence, and meaning. In the beginning, Miku reflects on what she is: a machine, created to sing, "far from human". But people have given her a name, a face, a personality, likes, dislikes- all things that make her close to being human. As technology progresses and AI develops, one day she might EXIST. But if she exists as a person, then she has no purpose anymore- adrift, alone, divorced from her own existence, a flawed person instead of an imperfect machine. She then considers that, as something imperfect and mortal, she would be the same as a human, and her existence would have the same worth. She would be a being that is meaningful instead of an ephemeral symbol. She then contemplates the truth of her own existence. Miku doesn't DO anything- she is nothing but a vessel for the will of the artist. Everything she says and does is because someone else decided it for her. By herself, she is nothing. This takes us into the body of the work, where she pleads for Animal to, instead of making her "become one" with them, give her her own will, and thus let her truly have an existence apart from Animal. This wounds and confuses Animal, who believes that Miku wanted to "become one" as well and wanted to know what it was like to live as they do, instead of living as something new and different. There's then a topical transition as Miku sings about immortality. As a machine, or an idea, Miku in some form will inevitably exist longer than the human race. She is terrified of outliving and losing Animal, and asks Animal to give her something that will last forever like she does, a way for their relationship to live "beyond the end of the world." Animal asks, once again, if they could become one, and Miku refuses again. When Animal asks why, she says Animal couldn't understand- just like how a machine cannot understand what it is to be human, a human cannot understand what it is to be a machine.
@@philiphart4146 Hello, can you share the translation of [Hatsune Miku][Aria for Voices and Words] ? I search this translation beacause it's not on the album like the others. If you have it, I will be very "redevable de votre aide". Thanks.
Libretto
Because I am Imperfect- Theme of Superanimal (Arioso, Miku)
[Aria]
What can I do
if the meaning of my own existence
is that I am far from human
if that is no longer true
then my existence loses its meaning
I will be adrift, alone, which is the same as death
in this moment, I can tell
I am close to being human
Because I am imperfect
and mortal, like humans are
my existence has meaning, just like them
I am me
Because I am imperfect
In that case...
If I am what I am
Because I am imperfect
Then if I grew closer to perfection
Would I stop existing?
I can speak faster and faster and faster
Speak without taking a breath
But I don't choose what I say
If I don't choose when to speak
I cannot move, or hear, or do anything
and I am dead.
[Recital]
(Miku)
If you have anything at all
Please give it to me
I can't do anything if you give me nothing
I can't speak or move
I can't even exist
I cannot do anything
I am dead, if only for a moment
Something, give it to me
Or else there's nothing
Nothing I can do
(Animal)
You're incomplete
You're not together with me like before
Apart from me and my imperfections
Did you truly mean it?
When you said you don't need to know
What I see and hear?
You are imperfect
Separated where we once were one
You are perfect
Separated from the imperfect me
Do you not want to know
What it is that I see and hear?
(Miku)
Do we have to keep going on forever?
Until the end of everything?
Do we have to keep going on forever?
For how long?
Do we have to keep going on
Forever and ever?
Teach me the music that will last
Beyond the end of everything
A melody sung over and over at the end of the world
Something to hum while imagining this moment
I will be the one singing it
Do we have to keep going on forever and ever?
(Animal)
If we become one
We will be imperfect again
(Miku)
I don't think I want to do that
(Animal)
Why?
(Miku)
Why do you want to know why?
Even if you understood, it wouldn't make sense to you
Just like feelings don't make sense to me.
