Ok but here is the thing. How did we get the food to feed livestock at the levels they are at? Well we used inorganic fertilizers to make enough food for us and the farm animals meaning that ultimately that nitrogen is coming from originally inorganic sources. So it is now just another part of the nitrogen cycle that ultimately came from inorganic sources at first.
I learned that Nitrogen was a globe treatening problem when Sri Lanka, after banning inorganic fertilizer, had a famine. And after the farmers of Netherlands were told to quit farming because they were releasing Nitrogen; and Canada is following. I guess anybody without a private farm is going to starve.
You are correct it will be worse much worse. approximately 78 percent The air in Earth's atmosphere is made up of approximately 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen. Air also has small amounts of other gases, too, such as carbon dioxide, neon, and hydrogen.
Problem is that if you like to eat you are in favor of Nitrogen fertilizer. I wish I could like eating without the need for artificial fertiliser but I can't
@@sierrabravo7368 actually nitrogen from animal shit is how a lot of farmers still grow vegetables here in Australia and grains and hay only the massive companies use store brought fertilizer which as ussually poison any way too the crops.

We lost nutrients because the minerals are not replaced to the soil when the food is removed from the field. GMOs are crap. Nitrogen accelerates plant production hence increased production and a faster mineral depletion. Volcanoes and wildfires replace nutrients. Burning crude oil and coal without filtering the smokestacks replaces minerals but dumb politicians won't let that happen.
Nitrogen is natural and normal and does not effect the environment. approximately 78 percent The air in Earth's atmosphere is made up of approximately 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen. Air also has small amounts of other gases, too, such as carbon dioxide, neon, and hydrogen.
The difference is the nitrogen in the atmosphere is stable. The nitrogen in fertilizer is reactive with other elements thus behave in a difference/accelerated affects in the environment. Part of the problem is our population size has gotten that we can't support without nitrogen fertilizers. But then they kill off areas of fishing and hunting... thus we need more people relying on the farmer food. Yet large portions of the food just goes to waste. Our methods are not sustainable. Maybe another 50 years, could be 100. But at some point the system is going to collapse. We're already seeing signs of this.
In total agreement with this Vaishak. Very happy to see you flagging such an important message. It is time to bring actionable projects on ground around the globe to start this soil regenerative process before it is too late. I feel this should be one of the UN SDG goal number 2 on which task forces must be forged to help lay out action plans and find resources to implement. Will need a strict monitoring force that ensures timelines are met. NUE FUE & WUE are the three pillars on which crop improvement of the future must focus. Using genomics is going to be a boon to help deliver such efficient genotypes. This needs to be supported by action plans on improved agronomy which should be the next five year plan for things to happen on the ground. Prof Rattan Lal & his ideas need to be heard.
Sterilization of all insects and animals that eat the product. Sterilization of the plant itself. That's how it stops insects. That's why you have buy seed from COMPANY every year. Sorry, I was responding to GMO comment. Same stuff but without GMOs it doesn't get in the food. If you want to know the danger research anti-freeze. It's the same chemical.
It is estimated that 50 to 90 percent of nitrogen is wasted, you say. Considering you are advocating for something with the potential to cause global famine you might want to quote a source for that nugget of information.
Are you saying there's something inorganic about making nitrogen fertilizer out of organic compounds including methane? Banning nitrogen fertilizers destroyed Sri Lanka, resulting in thousands of starvation deaths.
So what’s the solution? Mass scale permaculture seems like the only way to go. Better designed cities with farming integrated into communities. A lot of Asian countries do this. However the climate activists turned government leaders answer to shut down farming worldwide is not a solution. They’re OK with killing hundreds of millions of people in an attempt to reverse climate change.
And the next thing you know is that electric cars are the best new thing... let me tell you this if nitrogen is not used half the world will stare hunger in the face and its about time that the whole worlds farmers strike food production and its not the fertilizer its the GMOs that caused food to taste kak
Nitric oxide is available to plants. It's great for life. It only lasts 30 minutes in the atmosphere. All the fear mongering your repeating is garbage.
Fantastic video, as a farmer I can verify that you have your facts 100% correct, and very well written. Unfortunately poor audio quality and mixing really detracts from an otherwise excellent video. The old method of growing crops was with animal manure but environmentalist want to reduce livestock therefore no animals no nitrogen equals no food

As small farms reduce then big business will step buy land and food prices will explode. This will be a dangerous monopoly.
Nice video!
Great video.. but PLEASE stop the background music!!!

Thank you so much 🙂
Fantastic video, great delivery of basic concept and figures. Than you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Feeding the population of our planet is more important than the overstated problem of nitrogen.
How is it more important? They are connected. One relies on the other.

Cover crops require a lot of Round Up in spring before planting season. What are the ramifications of using all of the Round Up?

Thank you!
It is NOT... they are confusing nitrogen and nitrogen oxide purposely !
Very informative 👏
Politicians are more interested in making money than in solving problems. That is obvious.

It will not cause famine if fertelizers are withdrawn gradually just like man does not completely quit on cigarettes just because he decides so.
Nice video but thing u said wrong.... Vandana Shiva has already proved that organic farming yields more crops than inorganic farming
