Should You Visit St. Eustatius? - Watch This and Find Out.

- Nicknamed the "Golden Rock" because of its history as a free port in the Caribbean and all the riches that passed through its port, St. Eustatius today is more than the sleepy little island most portray it to be. You can definitely do some relaxing but you can also hike a dormant volcano, enjoy great food and wine, explore historic monuments, relax on black sand beaches, discover an amazing underwater world, and stay at great accommodations, from budget-friendly and locally owned B and B's to a luxury resort and everything in between.
CORRECTION: the ruins in this video are NOT of a holding space for slaves but a warehouse for goods according to a volunteer at SECAR, St Eustatius Center for Archeologic Research

Beautiful unspoiled island not overrun by tourists I will be visiting soon thanks for sharing
It’s a great little island
Educational, entertaining and informative. Great production value. You’re doing an excellent work! Thanks so much for this. I really enjoyed this tour. World class stuff
Great video.! I might go there soon.
@@enjoytheplays thank you. It’s beautiful. I’m hosting a retreat there in December
I always enjoy your vlogs and I learn so much!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank for watching, Tonya.
I really enjoyed your video! I was on a cruise ship sailing by St. Eustatius and did a google search out of curiosity and found your video among the result. As a travel vlogger I would love to visit this hidden gem. Thanks again for your great video.
I’ve lived in the Caribbean (STT USVI) for 25 years, sailed an old schooner to about 15 of the Caribbean islands but I still NEED to be in Stacia. Soon, mon, soon. Thanks Riselle, you are a delight!
Thanks, Rob. Hope you make it to Statia sometime soon
Wow, gorgeous island, never even knew it existed! I was surprised not to see any white sand beaches?
as i am from this island, yes there is no white sand beaches because the island is an dormant volcano therefore we have a dark sand
Riselle, thank you soo much for sharing this video!!! I worked in Statia for 3 years from 97' to 2000 and it truly is a hidden gem... Some of the most wonderful people and I had such a great time there... In the fort there is a plaque from the USA thanking Statia because, few know it but, Statia was the first country to officially recognize the United States as an independent nation... From what I remember, the Dutch government wanted to recognize the new nation but they were afraid to step out and so they asked the then governor of Statia and he obliged... Every year, for Statia's 4th of July and our (US) 4th of July (2 times a year), both the Dutch & US Navy send Naval ships to fire off a salute... It's an awesome sight!!! I was soo mad when I found this out because I was NEVER told about it in school growing up in the states... Sad... They even sing about us (America) in their National Anthem...
Man I want to say hi to all my friends there soo bad hoping, if they ever see this... Searow, Zeebo, Bandy, Bandic... man soo many I'm forgetting... Yooooo guys, it's 'Scientist' :P
Riselle, I spent soo much time in your island as well when I was down there... St. Maarten is stunning... Smallest dual possesion in the world, right? -Cheers!!
Wow. This is incredible. Thank you so much for your comment and for watching this video. I’m sure it brought back all sorts of great memories for you. I’m aware of the history the island has with the USA and it is indeed such a shame that this is not taught in your schools. I remember learning about it in high school as it was an important part of the history of the Dutch colonies. I hope you get to visit again and if not, who knows, maybe soon I’ll be doing another video about Statia.
@@TheTravelingIslandGirl Oh, that would be awesome! I was soo glad to see it again, and all the new places!! So awesome!!!
Statia has a national holiday to celebrate the "First Salute", when Sint Eustatius became the first country to recognize the United States, shortly after the Declaration of Independence was signed July 4, 1776.
Statia definitely has an interesting history with the US
Hey Statia is not some random island in the Caribbean, Statia is my home island and we have a national day called Statia day held in my city of XXXwizion. We are proud of our heritage, philosophy and ideology in bringing up the genetic elite and repressing the masses. We follow the axiom of change rather than any religion or other emotional, irrational and unbased belief system, meaning we always have a better opinion then the latter. Please do not undermine us just because we are isolated, please search up what Statia day really is on Wikipedia and do your research!!!!
@Rob Kunkel
wow lot off changes I lived and work there in 2012..its time to go visit Statia
I agree 😃
beautifully done. one small tip if you don't mind me saying so would be to level out music (down -10db) and dialogue volumes (up 5db) - I need to switch it up and down each time not to wake up my poor neighbour. Congrats again!!
My happy place!!!
❤
Curtis, how have you been???
Girl I good inno....
Have a few days coming up and thinking about a quick, inexpensive getaway...
Loving your take on Statia😊
Thank u so much for video of my paradise statia ❤
Loved this video. Looks like a natural beauty of an island. What are the overall prices for lodging, food and beverages etc?
Following
There are not a lot of options but the accommodations available range from affordable to luxury. Let’s say $80 to $450. As for food, it depends where you eat. There are many affordable spots. Especially of you are less of a picky eater.
Ahhhhhhhhhh, you're a Sint Maarten person! I didn't think you were from the ABC Islands, but at the same time, I also figured if you were a Sint Maarten person, you would have been to Sint Eustatius, because it's so close, so I was so confused😂
Born and raised in the ABC islands, moved to St. Maarten 23 years ago
Im not in #statia anymore!! Thanks for that video!!! I see this video many times!!! Make me emotional…. 😂
I know. We miss you there but this video will forever be a reminder of the great day we had in Statia. Thank you again.
Those are not ruins of slave buildings . You don’t build those buildings to hold slaves. Those were castles.
@@gc7114 Thank you for your comment but the Caribbean did not have castles as is known in Europe. What we did have were holding quarters for slaves about to be sold and housing for those working in the fields.
it’s look empty
It’s very quiet. Quiet and amazing
This is an extremely high quality video with great commentary, shots, and editing, granting amazing insight into the island. Thank you for sharing
Thank You so much for the kind words. Much appreciated.
Thank you my island in the sun!! There are more nice places to visit as well.
Indeed there are, which is why I will be back soon
