» WHERE IS NEPHI FROM?
I am native to Bacolod City in the Philippines but in the recent years I have been moving and living a lot in different countries like Singapore, Japan and the US due to the nature of my work. I was in the US when I started this channel but I am currently in Indonesia thus the confusion to some where I am truly based.
» MUSICAL BACKGROUND
Former band vocalist of Akita performing at K-Pub in Ayala Cebu, Philippines (2019-2020)
Former band vocalist of Big Three Band performing in Yokohama 7, Yokohama, Japan (2014-2016).
Former member of the Filipino Voice Symphony (2010-2011) where I was taught by professional chorale singers (e.g. former soprano from UP Madrigal Singers). Our singing group bagged the "Gold Medal" in the International A cappella Championships held in Singapore in 2011.
Former university choir and singing trainer at Technological University of the Philippines Visayas.
» WHAT IS THE GREATER GOAL?
My mission is to promote music among different regions and try to make people from different countries relate to each other through music and singing. I have always believed that even small gestures in understanding similarities and differences towards others actually lead to greater awareness about countries and their people.
In this modern world full of things that divide humanity, it is but perfect to put efforts in re-uniting and building bridges among all of us.

Batak is an ethnic from North sumatera. In our culture, singing is a common talent. Because of christianity impact as well. We sing at church, we sing when a baby born, when people die, wedding, and in other event.

Bataknese are famous with their good vocal quality... most of them are have very high range..
Batak people also well known for their infamous trios. There's so many groups come from batak people that consist of three vocals with their killer voice and harmonization.
In the fact was the didn't use mic and the music is so loud, but their voices still sounds dominate. It was Insane!

Batak is a name of tribe among many hundreds of tribes in indonesia,spesifically inhabit and originate from Northern Sumatra,and predominantly christian,aside from bahasa indonesia,batak people have their own language and dialects which corelates to sub groups of people within themself
More like ethnicity, the tribes are like, mandailing, karo, batak toba, etc. Sorry, for to be able remember 1340 tribes in Indonesia is like impossible. So i i believe bataknesse mire like ethnicity.

Batak is one of the biggest tribes in Indonesia located in the north part of Sumatera island. They are well known as a place where the Indonesia's amazing singers came from (eg. Judika Sihotang, Samy Simorangkir, Joy Tobing, Christine Panjaitan, Momo Geisha, Maria Simorangkir, Lea Simanjuntak, Lyodra Ginting, Christine Panjaitan, Rita Butar-Butar, Maria Calista, Eddie Silitonga, Victor Hutabarat, Putri IMB, Anggi Marito...and maaannny more to mention....). And yess the majority of the people there is Christian.
Ps : And in most of the singing competition shows in Indonesia I assure you bravely half of the finalists are Batak people, not surprise anymore oftenly they won the competition.

Batak is a tribe or etnic in North Sumatera Province of Indonesia, there are also other etniic beside Batak in North Sumatera not just Batak, there are also Melayu etnicity, most Bataknese are Christian and Melayu/Mallay are moeslem...

Batak's Place in North Sumatera where Toba Lake is overthere (the largest lake in Indonesia, and the largest volcano lake in the World (100Km x 30Km). By the way some words in Indonesian are the same with Philipines/ Tagalog words: like anak, mangkok, selamat (in Indonesia blessings), lelaki, mata, langit, sakit, kambing, sabon, kami. :) I Love Philiphines too, almost the same with Batak's People you have many singers very good voice and very talented. Some etnis in Indonesia are known with good voice or vocal, they are Batak, Maluku, Manado, Papua dland Kupang.. they have a great power vocal. Maybe because they always sing in their church every week. But for Javanese, their vocal are also good but only use for reading Al-quran and Adzan. They have a really great vocal and long power breath.. The province that are great in reading Quran is West Java, Javanese (Central Java and East Java), Aceh, Kalimantan and Sulawesi..

Indonesia has hundreds of tribes and languages. One of the tribes that produce the most songs is the Batak tribe. perhaps arguably the most productive tribe producing songs. and generally Batak songs are made to be sung in trios, always sing in threes(sopran+alto+tenor). the Batak tribe is also divided into several sub-tribes, one of which is the Toba Batak tribe, now the one singing in this video is the Toba Batak tribe. Toba Batak are generally Christian. There are also some Toba Batak languages that are similar to the language in the Philippines, for example chicken = manuk, door = pintu, father=ama or amang, mother=inang.

You are right. Most of the Batak people, especially the Batak Toba people, are Christians, and we love to sing in taverns and churches. Most Batak toba people are very faithful in religion. There will always be batak singers in every church accros indonesia.
