From Canada. Spent four months in Chiang Mai, Thailand… .and the surrounding mountains. Don’t forget to go up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. If you don’t go up there….they say you’ve never really been to Chiang Mai. On a second trip, I spent two months in Siem Reap, Cambodia… and the surrounding area. You really need at least the three day pass to visit Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and the other major ancient temples. One day is simply too rushed and hurried and you won’t see much more than just Angkor Wat itself. I followed that two months with a Giant Ibis bus trip across country to Poipet, passing into Thailand again, and spending four days in wonderful Bangkok. In my late 60’s. I’m 72 now, can still carry my small backpack….carry on size, with a cross body sling. I never check any luggage. Take care. 🙏🏼 ☸️ ✈️ 🌴 🌴 🌴 😃
We are flying back to the states in two days. We just did five months in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Japan. I cannot recommended Cambodia and Vietnam enough. We loved those two countries so much.
About the weather, many of destinations are now experiencing climate extremes. Are these purely Winter type destinations? With exploring, we walk alot. Walking in a continous polluted sauna gets old and gets you old quick! Thanks ...
@@rclark9395 Definitely. I always recommended researching the seasons when heading overseas. When doing my research everyone recommended winter for most of SE Asia as summers are pretty brutal. Even Japan is stiffing.
What a pleasure to watch! No distracting music, well spoken, and most of all fantastic content! We've been to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Zion. Loved them all. Moving to Europe this summer and so excited to explore. Thanks for the great suggestions!
You said exactly the same about Zagreb, what i‘ve always said about Croatia, „It‘s a real place!“ I love that. It doesn’t feel touristy. A relief for a real traveller.
Dubrovnik is probably the most touristy place I've ever seen especially from 9 to 5 when the cruise ship arrive with tons of peoples. But for sure Croatia is beautiful. I fell in love with Split.
Thailand always makes the top country to recommend after visiting 53 countries so far. Easy to get around, cheap, safe, and - yes - the food is soooo good. I lived in Philippines for 4 years. My first day there I was at a grocery store and noticed a bottle of local Tanduay rum was the same price as a carton of apple juice. Just a sign of how inexpensive it was going to be to live there. My friends and I would go to Anilao for the weekend. 8 dives, meals and dorm accommodation was about $150 for the weekend. You could easily make $100 a day budget there. Not sure you could make $100 on the West side of Costa Rice. Nice to see your point of view on the East side as it’s not well developed so probably contributes to its affordability. Took my adult family to Crete. Off the beaten past in non tourist restaurants we were paying about 1/3 the cost of a dinner out. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Great vid! I was an airline employee years back, so I hit Cambodia, Thailand, and Costa Rica, although I didn't spend a lot of time in these places. Hit the Philippines and GC/Bryce on separate occasions, and thoroughly enjoyed. There are sooo many hot spots to see in this great world! The more you go, the longer the bucket list gets. Never stop traveling! Thanks!
As a native Slovenian, we ofter forget how beatiful our country is and all the nature. Also croatian coast is very nice and a holiday destination for most of us. We traveled a lot in years and I cannot imagine living anywhere else. Quality of life here is really high.
We visited Slovenia 3 years ago. We found the locals being helpful and friendly. The country is a clean and beautiful. We recommend Slovenia to others.
I gotta thank you so much for that Hotel Tonight recommendation. I'm a big world traveller like yourselves (59 countries so far but aiming for 100 within 10 years) and after looking at the great prices I can tell I will be using this a lot going forward into the future. I like to wing it on my trips and not book stuff too far ahead so this is perfect for me. Your RUclips today has also encouraged me to go back to Croatia and explore even more of it (I only did the coast and islands so far) as well as see Slovenia.
I share your love of Chiang Mai and Costa Rica, and was recently blown away by Sri Lanka. The people, the landscape, the history, everything. I was on an organised tour, so I wasn’t really doing it on the cheap, but the restaurants we went to were very reasonable, and after the tour I spent a week in a luxury hotel with a rooftop infinity pool for the price of a two-star hotel in France. A buffet breakfast was included, and I ate so much that I didn’t need anything for the rest of the day, except maybe a few nuts and a beer in the evening.

Just back from Gdansk Poland after doing Krakow last year. Flights were cheap from Kona Hawaii, airbnbs were cheap, food was cheap, transport was cheap, museums were cheap! Fantastic Poland, what a place!
Well done! And I agree with about 95% of your destinations - especially Thailand, Greece, and the U.S. Southwest. I am definitely a new subscriber. Cheers!
Truly great video for a quick glimpse of these lesser known destinations. I was especially happy to see Krakow on there & highly recommend Poland for those who want to see, feel, & experience a culture still learning to move on from oppressive rule. Our guides gave us so much insight into their personal lives in addition to the history of WWII & subsequent communist oppression. We spent 3 days at Auschwitz-Birkenau and still wasn’t enough…though it will never be enough to try to comprehend the incomprehensible. The Salt Mines were an unexpected treat…mind blown!!! The countryside views rival all known scenic destinations, even garnering a comment from my Italian husband, “could this be more beautiful than Italy?” I try not to compare because each location has its own incomparable beauty. We also loved Costa Rica staying just outside Manual Antonio National Park, but there’s so much more to experience. We visited a farming commune deep in the forestry mountains where the locals served us some of the best food we’ve ever had. Hubs wants to go back solely for the food. Even though we splurged that trip staying at a high end boutique resort, it was still less expensive than most of our trips, and it did not disappoint with providing exceptional service, food, views, anmenities and did I mention food 😏 I appreciate your videos, hoping to put many of your tips into action! ❤ P.S. Love your signature kiss on your wife’s cheek, keep that up! 😊
Went there 2 years ago when we interrailed and it was probably the best country we went to. Unfortunately we only was there for 4 days so I need to back. Cheap, beautiful, safe, clean and good food and beer!
Italy has gone up so much since the pandemic. It used to be not that much more expensive than Spain, but right now it is like 3x the cost of visiting Spain.
I have been in Rome in november and in Venice in october and in Barcelona in january. Didnt see any big diference in priceing. I would even say that Barcelona was the most expencive of them all.
@@wucko1989 Barcelona is definitely the most expensive city in Spain. I still find it much cheaper especially the Airbnb and food. Other cities, especially further south are not even half the cost of Barcelona. Italy is expensive from north to south. Bari and Lecce the least expensive.

never This is probably the best "travel blog" I ever watched. Having traveled the world over many decades myself - I can only admire how Nik can summarize facts and figures in such an entertaining but right-on-the-nail manner. I am familiar with all the places he lists - and yes - he is right on target. Based on the personal stories I heard from friends over the many years there is one thing I would not recommend to travelers in a foreign country. And that is "renting cars, scooters, boats, and any other vehicles that are to be operated under the laws of that country. Once you cause an accident or are just involved in an accident - you are no longer a tourist but a "milk cow' for the local authorities. Nothing touristy about that when you are delivered to an ER. You don't know the local laws, you have no legal representation unless you can afford it - and many times, the US Embassy in that country is your last resort to get out of the country - not to mention the money you leave on the table.
I also like Zagreb 🙋 A note on the Acropolis in Athens and other sites around Europe: if you do some research, you might find they have free days to visit. I think I extended my stay one day extra in both Athens and Naples to be there for the free day for the Acropolis in Athens and Pompeii in Naples
I am in love with Poland ❤ Been to Krakow, Gdansk, Warsaw and Poznan. Will visit many more, definitely. Love Poland in summer and winter. And the people are so nice and cool!
Agree 100%. A hundred dollars for a 10 dollar a day traveler in the 1960s and 1970s sounds like a lot, but low for today. Have travelled all those countries, and yes, agree with you.
Proud to say we have done the grand circle and it is THE best trip we have ever done! Amazing breathtaking views! Next on our list is yellowstone, grand teton, mt rushmore road trip.
I agree wholeheartedly with your advice here. We’ve visited all locations you mentioned Except for Chiang Mai, but hope to get back to Thailand for that purpose!
I’ve been all over the US and I would recommend the 101 north scenic route. Start at San Francisco and head north on 101! Lots of natural beauty and stop at the glass beach and then you have redwood forest! It’s very majestic to see those tall trees for the first time!
I went to Croatia last year and travelled up to the lakes. Absolutely outstanding place and Croatia is probably my fave place now in going to Budapest in June, can't wait. Great video btw
couldn't agree more about Greece. Our best experiences were off the beaten path. We drank bottles of wine for $8, on the beach while we watched the waves crash. Simplicity and freshness of food was incredible. I'd recommend Paros/AntiParos and Naxos (for a more authentic experience) over the touristy islands like Mykonos and Santorini
Hoi An is one of our favourite trips we have ever had. We were not there on a budget but the hotel, food and beaches would be about 1/3 the cost of a Mexico tourist place,
I went to Greece in 2019. Athens is moderately priced. The Islands other than Santorini and Mikonos are incredible and super cheap. My favorite was Rhodes. And Northern Greece? Forget about it, Go to Meteora, Metsovo, the Vikos George, all beautiful and super cheap with amazing food.
I did a 7000 mile, 20 day road trip with a friend in the US last year, where we each only spent about $1k total, so I’m glad you included that at the end. I do definitely look forward to visiting the rest tho. Great video!
Great list. Used to travel for work to Slovenia. It is truly wonderful. Postojna cave, Maribor. Did Circle road trip once. I think Yellowstone and Tetons are a close second, if not a tie
Nice selection. For foreign visitors to the US, your recommendation of the Grand Circle Road Trip is spot on. I did most of it in early November. The nice thing about that time is that you have every one of the parks you mention to yourself. The views of the night sky is amazing because there is no light pollution. Moab is also one of the mountain biking hot spots, in case any of your viewers are interested in this. One thing to keep in mind, make sure that your car's gas tank is full. Even if it is only half a tank, fill up when you can. I sweated it on one stretch and nearly ran out of gas before finding an open station. One other tip for your viewers with regard to subscribing and liking your video. Be sure to stay with the video until the end. Google penalizes RUclipsrs if you cut out early.
Looking at the "rock parks" is great, but it gives the idea that Utah is only rocks, sagebrush and sand, with the occasional juniper and cactus. There are several drives in the canyons of the Wasatch Front during the Fall that are amazing quaky and pine forest.
Zagred was wonderful. We went there last year. My wife and I both were blown away with Croatia and especially loved Rovinj. If we go back (as I hope we do) we are going to go back and spend a week in Rovinj. (We were in Zagreb for a total of four days and loved it)
Great video! Love the US road trip. We did maybe half of it on two trips with our kids in COVID. We never would have done a road trip like that if we were flying. Those are amazing places - Zion being our favorite as well.
Wow, these destinations look absolutely incredible! I'm always on the lookout for affordable places to explore, and this list has definitely sparked my wanderlust. Thanks for sharing these hidden gems - can't wait to start planning my next adventure! 🌍💼
17:13 We did the same during Covid. Had plans all booked for Spain/Portugal for 2020 and then Covid happened. After several months of being locked down, we pivoted and went on a massive road trip from New Jersey to Wyoming and Montana. In 2021, we followed that up by doing largely what you guys did, save for Capital Reef and Zion. We've traveled to the UK, France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Italy and Switzerland since, over the last three years but, we do miss going out west.
great video, love the highlights. I have been to Slovenia and Croatia, but when they were both part of Yugoslavia and would love to go back with my family. Agree that Bled is amazing and Zagreb is a great city.
Straight-up excellent. I can vouch for his description of the places we've also been to ... which tells me the rest are well-considered and worth the trip. Well done.
Wow, your travel experiences are truly inspiring! It's fascinating how you managed to explore diverse destinations on a budget. Your insights on each place make me want to pack my bags and go on an adventure, hehe. Looking forward to more of your travel tips and recommendations!
I did number 10! I flew from Vancouver to Las.Vegas, and started the sights in St. George, Utah. I ended in Moab. There was a place further south of Moab, but I had been on the road for 15 days and had to fly home. The drive was beautiful. The hikes were amazing 🤩 I stayed in hotels and it cost me $4k. I should have watched this video first!
I've just discovered your channel and I'm really impressed with your european city names pronunciation, especialy when it comes to slavic words. A lot of people find it difficult. I appreciate your effort. That's lovely!

Nice, subscribed. In 2017 I traveled to Bali. Food insanely awesome and cheap. Same with accommodations, depending on where and what was included. Transport was a bit of an issue for me because I would not rent a scooter and I was solo. The price breaks for renting a car or driver came with multiple people splitting the cost. My hotel did have free shuttle to spots and I’m sure if I stayed more than a week, there would have been much more.
I stayed on Santorini the beginning of this last November and my goodness was it amazing. We got there right after tourist season and, while the weather was a little colder than what might be considered ideal on the island, there were little to no tourists abound. In addition to luxurious and affordable accommodations, the popular destinations were generally uncrowded, with the locals exhibiting a very warm demeaner... often expressing a sense of relief from the busy season. While it sounds like this may be an expensive place to visit during peak travel time, it can be much more affordable and equally enjoyable during times of the offseason.
All very nice places, but I'm surprised you don't have any South American countries - they are closish to USA, can be extremely affordable and have amazing scenery.
@@user-qk7lf9ie9r Well, I can only speak for Costa Rica. Beautiful country, save for travellers but very expensive. I have been living here for 30+ years.
Thanks for the terrific ideas. We also did the Grand Circle in 2020! Zion felt like it was experiencing the pandemic right along with us - a few major hikes were closed for rock slides and for social distancing, and while The Narrows were technically open, rangers were warning visitors at every bus stop that neurological damage was distinctly possible due to unexplained, unprecedented levels of toxic cyanobacteria in the water. Many visitors took the risk anyway, and while we couldn't because of some immunocompromised family members, we hope someday to go back when the park has fully healed. Happy travels!
I am finally going to be able to do some traveling. I definitely want to be budget friendly, with the occasional splurge. What a wonderful channel, just subscribed!❤❤🎉
Hello. Just discovered your channel and subbed. We're from the States as well and have been going to various parts of Thailand for the past seven years. So far, our favorite country by far. Been to many of your choices and you are 100% correct about The Grand Circle in U.S.A. We did two weeks spring 2021 "Covidworld" but flew in and out of Salt Lake City. Avoided Zion and Bryce because we had been and it was very busy. So we went to Mesa Verde instead. We rented a SUV for two weeks and basically ate out of grocery stores and hotel microwaves because our friend to avoid lots of crowds. A beautiful trip. I suggest this trip over Los Angeles and New York if one wants to see America.
Dude, you missed Goblin Valley while you were in Utah! I lobe here and though the national parks are all gorgeous--- Goblin Valley National Park is absolutely amazing and a lot of people not from Utah miss it while they're out here.
1. Love love love Chiang Mai ❣️ i can eat mango sticky rice and Khao soi everyday 😋 We also love Chiang Rai. I had coconut ice cream few times a day. 2. Athens and other islands are affordable. However, we stayed in a villa (of course with a pool) in Santorini for 5 days and it is verrrry expensive. Experiencing the beauty of the island is worth it though. Hey, you only live once. 3. I just came back from the Philippines 2 weeks ago. I agree with all the places youve mentioned such as coron, el Nido, siargao, cebu, bohol are 👍🏻. We had a blast 💃. However, we found Manila to be expensive, especially in BGC. Prices of goods and services are equivalent to the US.

Yeah it's hard to believe he put Costa Rica on this list.. Vietnam is much better..
Mykonos is NOT cheap neither is Santorini 😂😂😂
@@StirlingQShagnasty I maintained that if the value of rocks went sky high, then Utah is sitting on a gold mine.
I love how incredibly diverse Utah is. Grew up taking father/son trips to ski the cottonwood canyons and loved every minute.
Zagred was wonderful. We went there last year. My wife and I both were blown away with Croatia and especially loved Rovinj. If we go back (as I hope we do) we are going to go back and spend a week in Rovinj. (We were in Zagreb for a total of four days and loved it)
This is a really useful rundown and description of countries. Thanks.
Thanks for the informations ❤️ kisses from Greece 🇬🇷😎
Agreed - Zagreb & the Istrian peninsula are amazing!
I am amazed how so many people traveled extensively during Covid lockdowns 😮 some had to keep showing up at work
Great video!
We dig Costa Rica! It’s been our escape since 2020… we spend 6 weeks there every year and we’re hooked! Thailand is amazing!
From Dublin, Ireland. You have the best travel recommendations channel on RUclips. Thanks for your work.
I'm glad that you spent great time in Poland. It is still not so popular.
Thanks!
Loved the Philippines... great place and people. We super excited to be in Solvania next month!!
Solvania?!
5:52 Well said! Of all places, I want to take my kids here. Very sobering but definitely a valuable stop!
Great insight!
Thailand is amazing and the food is some of the best in the world! Totally agree.
Wow thanks for watching. Couldn't agree more about Thailand!
Straight-up excellent. I can vouch for his description of the places we've also been to ... which tells me the rest are well-considered and worth the trip. Well done.
This is the first video that I’ve watched of yours. I think you may have just changed my life plan. Thank you.
Wow, your travel experiences are truly inspiring! It's fascinating how you managed to explore diverse destinations on a budget. Your insights on each place make me want to pack my bags and go on an adventure, hehe. Looking forward to more of your travel tips and recommendations!
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to produce this video.
4ra has an attractive design, using it is a pleasure. Everything looks great and works well.
From Australia, you should try Malaysia, in particular, Penang. The food is cheap and amazing
But the beaches there just ok
Loved Croatia and their tomatoes , Rakia and food in general. I love you off the beaten path suggestions.
I've visited Poland twice...wonderful destination. (Btw, Wroclaw is pronounced VROTZ-SLAV)
I'm from Wrocław and it's absolutely annoying how terrible people pronounce it 🤣
😂😂
Wow, these destinations look incredible! Planning my next adventure already. Thanks for sharing these 10 AMAZING and Shockingly Affordable Bucket List Budget Travel Destinations! 🌍💼
Your videos are great. We travel a ton and are experienced with budget travel. But I really think you get “it” with travel and enjoy your videos. I took your monos bag recommendation. You have a strong focus on food which is really important to us too! Keep it up.
Can you do a logistics video about accommodations, transportation, local guides, etc. Thank you!
Noted! Added to our ideas bank
Really cool video. I hope to visit some of these places with my wife.
great video you guys! lots of love from Greece!
Haven't been to many of these places but do agree with the love for Zagreb
What a super duper video. Thanks man!!!!
Really great selections and overview. Thank you!
Some wonderful details & beautiful locations with buget friendly options! A great content video! Thanks for adding to our bucket list!
You have convinced me to visit Croatia ASAP.
Eastern Europe, Africa, South America & Southeast Asia....BOOM theres your answers 😂😂. Cool video.
I am Blown Away by how much you both get Blown Away!
Ha - I suppose I use that phrase a lot.
@@awaytogether still absolutely great content.
Thanks friend!
Great video... thank you for all the places... but what is IHG points 04:52?
Thanks for making this video! The last mention DID surprise!
Thank you for highlighting Southern Utah! Although I did notice you avoided saying the word 😂
All very nice places, but I'm surprised you don't have any South American countries - they are closish to USA, can be extremely affordable and have amazing scenery.
Well they are dangerous places to visit
Lot of dangerous areas in South America now unfortunately and I used to travel there quite often but now not so much…
@@user-qk7lf9ie9r- Chile isn’t too unsafe. And Bolivia also.
Argentina is safe.
@@user-qk7lf9ie9r Well, I can only speak for Costa Rica. Beautiful country, save for travellers but very expensive. I have been living here for 30+ years.
Oh my God! My traveling bucket list just grew exponentially! I will Def do the Grand Circle this year.
Croatia is amazing. Love the 7 night snorkeling cruise from Dubrovnik to Split 😊
This was well done, I like it's more facts and less wanna be a commercial type of video. Thank you!
Congrats! You discovered the best place: Chiang Mai, Thailand 🇹🇭
Seriously, the best.
I am finally going to be able to do some traveling. I definitely want to be budget friendly, with the occasional splurge. What a wonderful channel, just subscribed!❤❤🎉
just subscribed. was looking for an affordable destination to visit this year and this vid was very insightful. thanks!
So great ideas, they all look inviting
Thanks for all the tips for Poland and Slovenia , I've heard about how nice and reasonable they are. I live in Munich and will def'ly go some time . 😊
Hello. Just discovered your channel and subbed. We're from the States as well and have been going to various parts of Thailand for the past seven years. So far, our favorite country by far. We're in our early 50's and just retired and i'm doing research on our travel list. We prefer less traveled places. Can't wait to watch the rest of this video. Thank you!
Greetings from Poland! We have beautiful mountains, especially the Tatra and the Bieszczady Mountains. I highly recommend each of these places ;)
I love Thailand…also think Colombia is a great place as well.
