I suffered through that 2007-2018 period. The collapsed title runs because of injuries and a constant lack of depth, the player sales to pay for the stadium, the media constantly calling us soft when we were bullied by teams who parked the bus and scored from set pieces, and calling us weak when we complained about referees turning a blind eye to dangerous challenges, which helped lead to multiple career-threatening injuries. Arteta has turned the tables, flipped the script on all the old cliches about Arsenal and turned them into a team that has lost once in the last 25 league matches. A team that plays direct football not tiki-taka, defends like their lives depend on it, and cares only about winning by any means necessary. And the media and rival fans are up in arms!! Bring on the hate! Their tears are like the finest wine to those of us who have suffered for so long.
Mikel simply built a squad that can play any style and has no weakness. I've heard so many idiots say AFC only park the bus now clearly only watching a limited sample. This is a team that can play like spain and stoke. Something unheard of.
You nailed it. Play like stoke when you need to and like Spain when you need to. After city we have been the team pinning lei and soton to the wall and they won't say it. They want us to come out 10 men against the ref and city and lost so they can laugh... We now know their aim and we are ready... Arteta biggest motivation was watching spurs celebrate a lost to city and this time we will do it ourselves and they should be ready
What’s most important is that the flexibility allows to still play effective football despite of the injuries of pivotal players. Earlier the injuries of Jesus and then Zinchenko or Partey collapsed the whole game plan. Now Odegaard is injured (not to mention other starters) and Arsenal still wins games without loss of quality, simply by switching to different play style. Happy times
I used to envy Man City during the Kompany years because City had both skills and physicality. Arsenal only had skills, but weak physicality and even weaker mentality. Now Arteta has made the Arsenal players a tremendous physical team while still being able to play beautiful football. Never would I think Arsenal would be the best at corner kicks unless we play like Stoke rugby club, but yet here we are, best at set-pieces but still very enjoyable football to watch.
@@theflashgordon193 I saw this kind of comment from fans of every fking club. Arteta has really transformed Arsenal into a powerhouse club not scared to play against anyone. I always believed in Arteta and knew he just needed time to develop his team and to get rid of the deadwood at Arsenal.
I had always supported coach Unai Emery because not only was he a good coach but last name matched our stadium name, then when arteta came on board I was ecstatic like I wanted on of them to be Assistant the other manager. But you can’t have always what you want. So I supported Teta the when he was Getting rid of Ozil and Aubameyeng I was like not Ozil but Auba bye

i agree with you on everything except one thing.... arsenal is not evil now. they are still classy and honorable. they just have more steel about them.
I think he meant evil in the rivals and medias eyes. Thats basically how they see us now. Us fans know what we are. Rival fans and media are in shock right now and just dont know how to deal with us so they call us evil and say things like the use of the dark arts. When in truth this is how english football has always been played but its weird to them that Arsenal are playing like this. Just how i see it btw.
Wow.. beautifully narrated. Wenger built a beautiful house and Arteta turned on the lights.. goosebumps .. Hope we can also see a trophy cabinet full of trophies under the lights.
Seriously, no other team has suffered the way Arsenal has suffered. Unbeaten run ended at UTD in one of the worst and biased referee decisions against a team even seen. Title charge ended by breaking legs in the field . There are endless stories on how players like Diaby, Fabregas , Helb were battered in the field by opposition and referee used to swallow the whistle asking Arsenal players to grow up. I am sure no other team has ever been treated this bad and lost title charge because of injuries to players to the ground. I do agree though after 2012-13 Arsenal were not the same of past.
Wenger was to Arsenal football club, the meme of the father protecting his child from arrows. I hope that happier, more sober Arsenal fans can see that clearer now. He spent 10 years laying down foundations for the next 50, knowing that it would be future managers reaping the rewards and lifting the trophies. Blessed Are Those Who Plant Trees Under Whose Shade They Will Never Sit.
Wenger's legacy will be difficult to forget, and in the modern climate of managers changing every few years his record FA cup wins may stand for a very very long time.
Good lad, meant well, just believed too much in doing what was right as opposed what was necessary, god love him. The beautiful stadium, facilities, and keeping Arsenal going in that time will be his legacy.
Those years were my mid to late adolescence and it was painful, always been Arch Rivals Man Us understudy (as we were always in top 4), done over by new Chelsea etc. I was shy so Arsenal doing well would have given me an identity at school/uni etc a time when there were no smartphones or distractions like there is today plus my now grown age.
