Dany is not playing a regular guitar, but a custom shop Fender Strat baritone guitar, with a longer neck, more space between frets, which let's her use much thicker strings, which lets her tune much lower, plus she tuned it down even further to drop A, and Ale is also switching bass to tune down to drop A. So that gives a cool much bassier tone to the whole song.

Well, live but it was taped in the afternoon. Also, Automatic Sun was not even broadcast on the program, but just released to RUclips afterwards. They played the song Sick on the actual broadcast of the show. Whew. The network pulled stuff like that when they appeared on the NTV awards too.
I don't know how often the show records additional songs that won't be aired, but they do it a lot. The performers are already plugged in and ready to go, so why not? I wouldn't say it's "pulled stuff" but rather a welcome bonus.
@@charlielightfoot7006 yeah, you’re right. Especially in this case. I was mostly thinking of the VMAs where they clipped their segments considerably, only showing a minute. But even then, they got on the show and they were not even nominated for anything, so it all worked out perfectly. They already mentioned that they were going to be on the main stage this fall.
@@spaceknave Those VMA performances were recorded a few days before the actual awards show. Only two songs were played, and each had a full performance and a short (45 seconds?) version. The short versions were not clipped, they were separate performances from the same stage. The intent apparently was to simulate a live event but to have everything pre-recorded and ready to be inserted into the awards show as to fill time as needed.
