Look, the ppl who trashed him IS trash. You can teach a cat not to poop at the carpet by placing its bowl on top of it, but you can’t teach Jennie Buss to be grateful and respectful. Things don’t connect in her peasized brain. Jerry has all the glory. He’s a man of pride, of heart, of kindness, of wisdom, of courage, of skills and knowledge and of confidence. And yet he is still a humble person. He shouldn’t be recognized as a Laker. Just like Bill Russell not as a Celtic, MJ not as a Bull. Greatness belongs to the ppl who manifested, not to the uniform they happen to wear at the time.

Jerry West was a great all-around player and a great basketball mind/executive. One of the areas where West excelled that flies under the radar was his excellent athletic ability. In his playing days era, dunking wasn't as in vogue as it would become but Mr Clutch had excellent hops, West was really fast as runner going downcourt, and West was super quick. When you combine that with his true height - his listed height of 6'2" or 6'3" was not accurate and West himself said he was at least 6'4" barefoot. With shoes on, that made West about 6'5" in Chuck Taylors so it was it was no surprise that West was a great shot blocker for a guard. Because West had a high basketball IQ and an uncanny basketball sense, it was also no surprise that West was a leader in steals as well. So West was way more than a "white body shooter" and was one of the best athletes, at the guard position, in the NBA.

Imagine if Jerry West was our GM when we had 3 number 2 overall picks in a row, 2015-2017. It kills me that the Buss family has disrespected him so much. Greatest Laker of All Time.

I always thought Kobe should replace West as the logo, I was uninformed about the legend himself. RIP Jerry West.

When you include his greatness on both ends of the court, his coaching, and his GM accomplishments, you could make the case West had the greatest overall career in basketball ever.
The only other person I can think of with similar greatness in every area of basketball is Bird. But as a GM, West had a much longer run and more success than Bird had.
It's kinda crazy that a guy with West's track record, who's also the F'N NBA LOGO is that underrated by many modern fans.
For all his successes, it seemed West had a tough life, and him being so tough on himself led to him not enjoying his accomplishments nearly as much as he should've.
    I hope he's at peace now--Jerry West R.I.P...

Jerry West's final records reminds me of LeBron in MOST of those final losses they were the best player on the court from both opposing teams, but circumstances they couldn't control made other teams come out on top.

RIP The Logo even though he hated the nickname. We need to give these former legends their due even without the added accolades or stats and to me at least its always been fun to guesstimate how their numbers and accolades would look had they been avail. I got Jerry avg 30/5/7/1.5/3.0 on close to 90/50/40 splits.
Dudes like Wilt, Russell, Mikan, Oscar, West, Pete, Kareem, Tiny, etc all suffered from a lack of defensive stats and accolades but even if you lowball their stats and accolades you can see how many would have better resumes than a lot of the top 75 players from the anniversary list.
Bill's likely sitting on something like 11 rings, 7 fmvp, 5-7 dpoty and 5 mvps
Wilt likely lead the league in 3-4 of the major stats in the same season. On top of avg a 30pt, 20reb and 10blks triple double...
Jerry likely would own the top 5 steal total seasons, have a few 100+blk/200stl seasons and totaling 30+ points to join or even overshadow Jordan in that dept.

Honestly mind boggling how these guys avg 40 ppg over a playoff run WITHOUT a 3 pt line.
If a player did it today we'd worship them...this guy did it with no 3s on good efficiency as well.
    Just nuts

DO NOT take it the wrong way, but we do need to remember that they played more minutes and in an extremely fast era. I honestly think that is the most underappreciated thing about the 1960s greats, the fact that they were regularly playing 40+ minutes a night in Chuck Taylors in a hot gym, running up and down the court more than any other era ever. Insane endurance.

9:43 this was the most underrated Lakers squad of all time. Eddie Jones and Nick Van Axel with Shaq and a little kid who couldn’t break through the ranks yet named Kobe Bryant.

I loved watching Jerry West, his play with Elgin Baylor was marvelous. He never complained about the refs or did anything but WORK HARDER TO GET BETTER! He never behaved like the current face of the Leakers, Mr. Whiner LeBrain. I used to enjoy watching the NBA when they played real BB; I now find the nba to be unwatchable, it’s boring long-range, “bombs away BB”. LeBrain specializes in the “crash and smash” drive to the basket; where he charges, travels, misses a short shot, falls on the floor acting injured, and then begins haranguing the refs, fans, and players. He loves to say: “That makes me the greatest of all time??” Nope: “EVER HEAR OF JERRY WEST; MISTER CLUTCH??” I am not surprised!! YES TO WEST; HE IS A TRULY GREAT LAKER! RIP

The late Jerry West is the GOAT 🐐 Los Angeles Lakers personality. Won 🏆 1 title as a player + more as an executive.
Eliminated from the choices. 1 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar because he won 🏆 1 title and reached the finals again whe with the Milwaukee Bucks 🦌 2 Shaquille O'Neal. He was with the Orlando Magic before the Lakers.
