  • Before importing files to NVivo, it is important to prepare them to make sure that 1) it is easier for you to read them, and 2) the project does not CRASH (and this, unfortunately, happens)

What a brilliant video, I was just starting and thinking whether time stamps (auto-generated from Teams) were needed. Thanks for your tips!

I was really confused whether I should put my transcript on table before I code. Thank you so much for your explanation.

You know I don't care about Nvivo, I'm here for the tongue slip music breaks.

LOL. Glad to hear that you're enjoying that! And well done for making it that far into a video ;)

@@qualitativeresearcher Jokes aside, I've just started my phd project and I will use Nvivo extensively (doing the litreview, coding my sources etc.). Now I am thinking about buying a new laptop, do you have any recommendations concerning specs? I mean Nvivo's official site says 8GB ram is enough for running the software, but 16GB is preferable, for me it seems a little odd. Since I have never done bigger projects with Nvivo yet, I don't know the limits of it. What specs would you recommend for Nvivo users?

@@kissebb Thank you for the question - I must say I am not a big expert in computers, but all I know is that when something says preferable, you would probably want to go for that option. I have 8 GB ram at the moment, and whilst I have never had any issues with NVIVO on this computer, I am actually getting more ram as I use other software that can be very heavy on my computer, including video editing or photography software, and I know it is always nice to have more ram. Having said this, I know there are other important things that play a role here, rather than ram, including even the type of the harddrive itself, as I was also advised to upgrade this too. Therefore, like I said, I would think about this and perhaps ask someone who knows about computers more than I do

@@qualitativeresearcher Thank you for your answer. It is really helpful, I'm sure I don't use Nvivo as extensively as you, so if you had no problem with it, that is quite reassuring for me. Meanwhile, I leave my previous comment and question open here, maybe other users have useful experience regarding this matter that is worth sharing with the community.

    Dear Dr. Kriukow,
I need a consultation in regards to the qualitative study that I am doing.
Firstly I watched almost all your videos on youtube. And that is how I learned the basics of qualitative analysis.
I am conducting a qualitative study about the near-death experience.
I have an in-depth interview with one participant who had a near-death experience after a car accident and went into near-death experience in ICU, her experience is unique. It was a very rich interview. I conducted this interview 4 years ago. But I never publish it. My plan was to do a phenomenological study. But I failed to recruit more participants. I had only another participant with the same experience. So, the total sample size is 2. And in your video, you mentioned that we need at least 5 participants for the phenomenological study.
But, now the first participant has been subjected to another near-death experience and I have an appointment to conduct a second (follow-up) in-depth interview with her.
    My question is:
Can I do narrative analysis for these interviews? (two interviews with the same participant, 4 years apart)
    Or what do you suggest?
Can you guide me on how to go further with this data?
I am really grateful for your time and help.

Your content is fine, but I assume you could cut the length of your videos in half by having a decent script. Dont repeat yourself. "I have said it before...as mentioned before...". That is very annoying.

Sorry to hear this annoys you, and I do appreciate the advice, I really do. I just find it more natural to record this way - this is my style, I do not like things being scripted. and also more doable considering my workload . So far this seems to have worked for most people so I suppose it can't be That annoying :)
