Last year, Dianna-lynne created “Brother,” which was the most vulnerable program I’ve ever done. It wasn’t easy, but it was freeing. While I couldn’t continue performing it, I wanted another program that told my personal story.
“She Keeps Me Warm” isn’t entirely my story. It’s a story about many people, including the two women who came out to me last year. And, it’s really about anyone - specifically queer women - who have ever felt that they don’t belong. I wanted a girly, feminine program which shows that anyone can be queer and we don’t all fit into a stereotype. It’s also a celebration of how incredible it feels to be honestly, unapologetically myself.
Dianna-lynne described the ending pose as: “You’re welcoming it and you’re accepting it.” I’ve kept this phrase in a note on my phone as a reminder of how far I’ve come personally. I’ll be keeping this program for next season and hope to keep building on some untapped potential.
