Video taped this when it was on the TV (Tube - Ch4 Friday nights.) Kept it for years until I wore out the cassette. Was blown away with the power of the performance. Brilliant!
Well said - as true eight years ago as today in 2024 Mickey was my Ulster song. Played it in the garrison and in the demob. Makes me cry to this day. SOD just awesome.
Sometimes I think I have that "false memory" syndrome. I swear that the 3 best concerts I saw were the 3 times I saw Spear of Destiny. But seeing this I'm happy to say that I don't have any false memories, they really were that good.
Saw them at Barrow land in Glasgow, 41 years ago😂 was 14, brilliant, drinking Buckfast and ElDorado in the queue, got served in the Sarry Heid after it...think Kirk Brandon hung a chicken above the stage ....I was kinda wasted
'Neasden' comment was a response to Muriel Gray who earlier commented on the international flavour of today's show but didn't know where SOD were from - remember it well.
cheers for the posting. have it stored away on vhs somehere but cheers for youtubingit, one of their best songs from the WS album (did i say album!? Ooops old git!)
Had the opportunity to support kirk's band in the 90s. At the time of the legal struggle. He was quiet guy and very civil as a lad who has had the chance to be lead vocalist in a few bands i would have to look long and hard to find a better live singer than kirk.
Why, oh why, oh why did you ever split this line-up? There was no greater live experience of the 80's, and every single member was the best in their field.
and i can assure you that it is my dad. how can my dad and me get mixed up. he knows who he is and so do i. i went to my aunties on christmas day and she showed me pictures of him with his mohawk. its my dad. he's called james price and doesn't have a daughter.
Iam sorry to dissapoint you, but as johno says that is Richard Hare. He followed spear in the 80's. On the guess list for many a show. He did take loads of photos and gave me some great TOH pics from 1991. I last saw him at Rock City for a spear gig in 95. Richard no longer follows spear but he was a top man at the time. Theatre of Hate live on your dreams and they will kill you!
he isn't called richard, he's called james. he's never lived in nottingham and i know that it's my dad because he sat me down and showed me this video himself and pointed him out.
In this day and age, why are people still hung up about sexuality. If he is straight, who cares, if he is bi or gay who cares. He should have the right to privacy about his personal life either way. I love his music and hope he does not have dodgy political views, which I think are more important.
Ian Youlton I completely agree 100% but the problem is is that he put his own self out there like that you can see him on the tube performing liberator and he says before he starts playing that he's not gay and he's not a Nazi okay no one asked him that no one cared about that he cared about it and that's what hurt Kirk the most was he was so scared of his reputation knowing that Boy George was gay there was no way of hiding that one and he went off to have a successful career and still is being successful.. if Kirk would just get over the whole fact that him and Boy George was together and just leave it at that then there would have been a problem he made it a problem no one cared if he was dating no one cared if he was straight no one cared because he was a great musician he ruined his own career by his own embarrassment which in my opinion should I haven't been he was such a great musician great voice he was a good front man even though sometimes I couldn't tell if he was having a seizure or what lol and I think he kind of adapted some of his moves from Ian Curtis but who cares the problem is he cared about all that he let all that take away his talent and he didn't have to let it do that he could have just dismissed it and said fuck it whatever I'm not here to please anybody about my sexuality I am here to make my music and enjoy but he didn't have the balls to say that and that right there is what ruined his career.. in my opinion he was not a good looking man but he was an excellent front man excellent singer an excellent musician it's so sad that people let their personal lives ruined their careers when nobody gives two shits they just want to hear you make that great tune and once you got that great tune you can keep on going don't let nothing interrupt it and he did that.. Kirk today is still hung up on the whole him and Boy George thing I mean look at there are pictures of him licking Boy George's ear I mean there's no doubt they were together but who cares I mean seriously and he thought people actually really cared I mean looking David Bowie he was so successful and nobody can figure out his sexuality they didn't know he was gay straight bi they had no clue but he kept going and just kept people in suspense it was all about his music especially after Ziggy Stardust when the curtain was down and the makeup was off he was simply David actually have a wife and the life beyond Ziggy Stardust a lot of things are just become fads.. my opinion live it while you can enjoy the ride don't worry about what anybody thinks of you don't ruin your self over rumors of Truth.. Kirk could have been one of the top musicians too bad his personal life killed it because of himself not anyone else.
You'd never believe he was gay would you? I have the album cover of 'The Price You Pay' on my left shoulder. Not sure I agree with the politics but the music is fucking amazing.....
He was a very good musician and probably still is and he could have made it big but he let his personal life get in the way.. and he didn't have that sex appeal and in the 80s they look for sex appeal along with musical Talent now he blames Boy George for his career pretty much ending.. and that was his problem so what he fucked Boy George had a relationship with him I mean honestly Boy George was gorgeous I would have done the same.. and being gay had nothing to do with your career only way I had something to do with your career is if you let it.. look at all the people who were gay and successful in the 80s and the 90s and today.. his denial is what makes him fake and people could spot it ! Look at Boy George complete success and still to this day a success and no one gives a shit if he's gay or not he's just fabulous and he's up front and that right there is what fans want..kirk let everything getting his way with his music and also he couldn't Branch out no matter how much you tried because he didn't have that it Factor.. now he was a good musician and a great frontman but also he had so many band members that it was just too much even though the music was fantastic but you gotta understand where in the 80s and back then having so many musicians was not what record companies wanted and that is why the hair bands moved in.. everybody wants to call him Psychobilly no he was not and just because he perform with Psychobilly bands does not make him Psychobilly I performed with the same bands that he has except for in 2009 and 10 and more seems like a billy bands and I was burlesque performer in Las Vegas performing with these guys as a matter of fact if you look up Bella page you'll find me and all the bands that I performed with Psychobilly rockabilly and I'm going to say this right now Kirk was not Psychobilly and he was not rockabilly.. and people might say oh he's Underground and he wanted to stay that way and the answer is no he didn't if you have read anything that he is written of a biography it will say in it from his words how he felt that them being unsuccessful had to deal with Boy George and he tried to sue Boy George in the 90s late 90s.. because his career went nowhere and he blamed Boy George and actually tried to sue him for his failing career and that's not true his career didn't go downhill because of George.. it was because of him and it's pretty sad that you know he is such a great musician Kirk and for him to not make it had to be because of him and his personal issues and plus you want to start branching out you need to stop performing with underground bands they're absolutely not going anywhere in the music industry only going somewhere with their own following... you can be a fantastic musician and the ingenious of music and not go nowhere because of your personal problems.. gay does not matter gay straight it does not matter.... look at how many women wanted to look like Boy George I know I love his look I remember in the 80s trying to dress like him so I had nothing to do with Boy George sexuality because if it did he would have a falling career and he has not he's still going so that just shows if you want to be successful then be successful don't hide behind the curtain especially one that's see through.
Saw them on Jacks and Service tours, fukn hell they bounced and rocked like fuck

Quality performance by the Maestro !

Agree with that saltymusic one of best live bands you could everysee!
The best band line - up. It had a power and musical diversity, later Spear sadly lacked.
totally brilliant band!!!

I think that was sarcasm
He isn't.
I've never been able to work out- has he got right wing tendencies?
Nope. Quite the opposite in fact.
Was this just after he did "Home Alone" ?
I loved the bit when he made the doorhandle really hot and burnt the robbers hand ha ha ha ha.
