Great to see Ed back with you rob! He’s come a long way with your teaching! Yet another simply perfect performance of true skill & craftsmanship, carefully planned out to achieve the finest results.❤
Good to have you back Ed 👍 love the video, looking forward to the next instalment. Robin would it be possible to share with us what workwear and accessories you and Ed are wearing? Thanks.
Robin you’re almost as fussy as myself, 😂, bloody brilliant, being thorough seems to be a stranger to most nowadays. Can’t suffer rubbish workmanship. All the very best in the New Year.
Brilliant to see Ed back working a project with you. loving the whole garage build from sourcing materials to different traids you get in, keep it up👍🏻
Went to college with Ed for landscaping, he's quickly become good chippy in a few years so must have a good head on his shoulders. Think he's in the military with all that gear though so still confused.
Its always so interesting to watch actual builds vecause as a structural engineer Ive designed loads of timber frame walls and specified size and grade etc but I do always say that oyrs is the easy bit - someone then has to come along and build and you guess at some things and mostly get it right. Its lovely to see the care you take in getting things right.
I'm 59 now, born into a renovation project and renovating all my life (I still Am). Never went into the profession but you make it seem like I missed a beautiful calling. I'm planning a similar build, concrete and bricks are up, start the woodwork in early spring. SOURCING MY MATERIALS IS THE BIGGEST PAIN as a private builder. I'd love to shop at specialized building centers just like any contractor can.... Keep the series up, it's a real motivator!
Good Saturday morning Robin, just catching up with your garages project, very handy is big Ed on this one, good to see him again, it's all looking good and I feel like I'm there with you, but I'm 73 now so, a spectator only😃but loving it, and for laymen watching it's a gift, those beam lifts are briliant (Liam)
Great work guys really impressive to watch. Ed its superb to see you back and the team fully formed once again. Cant wait for the next set of Vlogs and to see the Oak develop and be in place.
Ed seems like a million-dollar helper: minimal talking, careful skilled work and careful hands, strong back, tall: what else could you possibly ask for... all you need is a hydraulic machine to help you lift those beams What's the lunch menu? FISH & CHIPS!
Absolute pleasure to watch gentleman ! Thank you. Great to see Ed back on the channel. Really looking forward to the next episode. All those years of hard earned knowledge being deployed in such a calm and productive way ! Perfection 💪
Evening Robin, good to see Ed is back to give you a hand. Another excellent video and because you’ve used a rod to set out everything, it’s all going to plan nicely. Can’t wait to see those oak beams going up in the next video! Happy new year to both of you and your families 👍👍
And talking about garages and getting things square ( ie 3/4/5 triangles and equal diagonals) I lookedxatca garage about 20 years ago where the valuation surveyor thought the building had shifted laterally on its dpc as there was a step below compared to dpc and wondered if it was due to vehicle damage. But there was absolutely no sign of any impact damage on the brickwork. Walking around and around and after much thinking, I came to the conclusion that it was built slightly off square as they came up to dpc. They then checked the diagonals and found the error and as it was about 10 mm they just corrected it above dpc!! There are a number of seeming defects in buildings (esp old ones) that are due to it being just the way it was built!
I wish I could afford to have you and Ed come over and help me build a garage similar to this, but I will attempt to do this project myself now you’ve given a comprehensive insight of how to proceed. Thanks Robin, always love watching your videos 👍🏽
Nice work Robin and Ed, brickwork looks nice. I haven't been watching for a while but I will be following now. You know me as the the rough old trowel from NESCOT
Very good job lads! Enjoy watching you two work together... bit of a strange question, but as a guy who's 6'6 I'm curious where Ed gets his trousers from!? Keep up the great work fellas and happy new year!
Thanks dude! I’m the same height and I know the struggle is real! 😂 I only really wear Carhartt as the quality is great and they have loads of leg length options! Hope that helps
@edwoodcarpentry oh mate that's brilliant thanks! Just looking on their website now 👀 yeah it's a massive struggle especially for socks 🤣 if you're ever after any casual stuff john banks big n tall menswear has a decent range 👍
I've seen it done everywhere but ive always wondered why fixing the base plate to the subfloor (brick in this case) through the DPM doesn't compromise the DPM. It'd be great to get your expert thoughts please Robin?
Can I ask why you don't need jack studs in the corners? I'm replacing part of my house next year with a timber frame structure to improve the insulation and sort damp issues (it's a stone built Victorian terrace with a rubbish brick extension on the back) and the structural engineer has insisted that the corners need to have three studs at each corner per elevation. Just curious.
I look forward to watching but I don’t look forward too the talking 😅 I like it when you are roofing and on the go all the time but still teaching. it’s like your spark has gone. anyway no beef just saying what I see peace out
You’re a natural on camera Rob. Loving this series. Thanks for doing these videos.
So good to see Ed back and really grown in confidence and very skilled now, taught by the best too

I am always amazed at how easy you make the whole process look
Went to college with Ed for landscaping, he's quickly become good chippy in a few years so must have a good head on his shoulders. Think he's in the military with all that gear though so still confused.
Welcome back Ed, his initial conversation with you shows his confidence has sky rocketed.

Ed just looked the true professional.
Welcome Back ED
Robin you haven’t moved your reg onto the new transit 😉
Great to have another update - top work as usual.
Not yet!
Good to See Ed Back? Are you working for yourself now ?
I've seen it done everywhere but ive always wondered why fixing the base plate to the subfloor (brick in this case) through the DPM doesn't compromise the DPM. It'd be great to get your expert thoughts please Robin?
What securing screws are you using in the concrete and brickwork plates? Can’t see a rawplug used? Great set of videos. Keep up the good work.
@10mins Presume that brickwork is getting covered on the inside? Top course doesn’t look great….should have put some halves in.
Robin when’s the next part on the garage build ?
Friday at 6pm
What drill bits do you use?
Is Ed six feet five or something. Great video, Thanks.

Who’s that tiny bloke with Ed ? 🤣🤣
Now we know why you got him in for the roof 👀
45…44… good enough for now 😂😂
Luke and Yoda together again.
👍
do you really need a beam lifter with Ed there?
What jacket is ed wearing
why not sheet, membrane and straps before standing up ?
It was mainly weight
Are you standing in a hole next to Ed Robin ? 🤣
Will Ed start his own channel too?
Yes, hopefully soon, I will give him a hand
Ed looks like the current 'police' with his bat belt all kitted out.
Guess who's back Ed is back all the best for 2025 guys
Ed looks like a Firearms Copper……
I look forward to watching but I don’t look forward too the talking 😅 I like it when you are roofing and on the go all the time but still teaching. it’s like your spark has gone. anyway no beef just saying what I see peace out
Just like your braces I’ve been trying to convince my Mrs that shorter is better than longer but she’s not having it
Gone away from metabo?
Hi Ben, keep your eyes peeled as we have many Metabo tools and some coming up in videos
Ed is back and looking bigger than ever ... 7'4" now 😂😅😂 love the videos cheers Robin.
