This is one of those rare “perfect” albums, IMO. My personal favorite song from it is “The Climb”, but every song on it is magic.

Gwen dated the bass player Tony Kanal. But they broke up before this album so he plays bass on a bunch of songs about their breakup. She later married Gavin Rossdale of Bush. She did release several solo pop albums that I don't like. She divorced Gavin and married her co-star Blake Shelton. Gwen became a pop icon.
The guitarist was a metal guy before joining the band.

We got "Jagged Little Pill" in June of 1995, "Garbage" debut in August of 1995, "Tragic Kingdom" in October, and "Tidal" by Fiona Apple in July of 1996. Some much needed women in a music scene awash in the masculine funk of "grunge" ... who am I missing? Cranberries and Juliana Hatfield in 1993. Hole of course. Bjork, TLC.

About No Doubt I can say the same as about Death Cab, I like it, but I wouldn't buy and listen to it at home ... but when it's played in the radio I might do some seat dancing in the car :-) Interesting fact: Gwen Stefani is idol and influence to Tatiana of Jinjer, you can hear that in the few jazzy spots, which Jinjer has in their music. Fun fact: In the 90s No Doubt's Don't Speak was all over MTV and whenever they played it, my son said, Papa look , the woman with the yellow t-shirt :-)

So, I picked this song because it had the Ska, the rock/alternative & the kick ass bass. The lyrics are also wicked. Now, that album was their last Ska album, they removed all the brass element from the Band after, unfortunately. I saw them in 97, very good concert.

But as just a girl and dont speak blew up and became just radio hits. I kind of dismissed the album all together. At that time i started to get into more indie rock ! But this is a great deep cut off of tragic kingdom! And is one of the better songs off of it! Nick and lex, im glad you dug this! It was fun to hear them again! Cheers!

Here in SoCal, and also for a time living in "Orange County" where these guys are from, they were a big thing in local clubs. And this album EXPLODED here in SoCal and then to the rest of the world. The "Ska" thing was always in them and what they were known for.
But this stuff got played on the radio and various places where I worked, with other "music" that was Alternative or Pop . . . when you hear this over and over (even musicians/songs you liked!), its too much. Same with Gwen's solo album, they played her stuff A LOT. They are great at what they do but yeahhhhh . . .
Maybe Radio killed the Radio Star for me (and songs I liked). Put it this way; KLOS FM KILLED Rush - "Dreamline" for me, I LOVE the lyrics, but they played it SOO much, I can hardly hear it now.
No Doubt is the type of music that you WILL hear at a Party, everyone dancing, mingling, having a great time :).
