Hi everyone! A lot of you have been wondering - I actually didn’t end up running the 50 miler, sadly. At the time I had just moved to a new city, was under some financial stress, & was making tons of new friends - it was more important to me to spend time getting to know them then to spend so much time alone running. I stopped about 6 months in to my 8 months of training, my longest run being the Asheville marathon. I just started 75 hard again though, which has me running a lot more, maybe it will inspire me to go for another mountainous 50 miler!!
@@ryaniswandering My "why" is twofold. I was NOT at all athletic in school, when I finally did discover that I could do and enjoy endurance events I started wondering just how far I could push myself. Second, I opened a retail outdoor goods store almost five years ago and focused on nothing but the business until last year when I realized I needed some balance and the physical outlet in order to continue to run the business well.
@@ryaniswandering Dang that sucks but it’s not the end of the world. Finding joy is all that matters. I run about 4 miles 5-6 days a week for enjoyment now. It’s much more enjoyable to me rather than grinding miles to race.
This is super kind thank you! I’m on a new adventure now you’ll probably like as well. I’ll post long form content soon, but for now my shorts will give a sneak peak :)
This was my first back in 2019. Its so awesome man. Remember there is about a 1000 ft climb on mile 34 or so (almost the end) Save some energy for that.
Thanks Ryan -- appreciate the video -- I am starting training for a virtual marathon July 8, 2024 -- have 20 weeks -- I have run 4 marathons PB was 5:22:30 -- so will see

Subscribed. I'm a 58 year old returning runner, doing my first half-marathon since 2009 in April, then on to a 50K in November.
Congrats and good luck!! What’s your “why” for getting into it and going for the Ultra?

Same feeling with my choice of race. Broken Arrow Skyrace was my choice of 50kish option for my first race. Gotta choose something that inspires you!
Amazing! I never got to run mine :/

It's a bummer you didn't run! This was a great first episode, I would absolutely follow your training/ race if you sign up for another!

@@ryaniswandering I’ll check them out. Have fun!
Awesome! Bryce 60K is going to be my first Ultra. Excited about this race too. It was between Bryce and The Grand Traverse. See you there!

Oh and DO stop and take pictures between mile 19 and 28 or so. Forget what that section of trail is called right now but the views are RAD!
I never got to run it… hope you had a great race!
