I hope honey gets a prominent role and one of those 30th anniversary comics. They made a cameo in sonic 30th anniversary and the Amy one so I think it’s possible as for breezy, yeah I think that’s a one time thing. The cartoon characters are essentially in the deep vault with hypersonic so I don’t see them returning anytime soon (things could change tho)
Now this was awesome we go two an a extra character file today. I did love that Breezie did what ever she wanted so she could survive in this world and make money, it would be cool if she come back.
I just realized that they could have totally had Breezie be like a robotozized mobian. Like she was originally a real mobian but willingly got robotozized by Robotnik because its all she knew. Her less robotnik look could also have been fake so she would still feel some sort of normalcy. That why you keep her new backstory while also still having her be a robot. Like her greedy personality could have came from Robotnik teaching her. That could have been pretty fun I think.
I love how much fanservice is in the Sonic comics (both Archie and IDW). They either bring back old and obscure characters or work random mechanics like the power cores from Sonic Heroes into the lore.
2 of the best “new” characters to pop out of the 2nd timeline. Honestly they both compliment each other, one being the reasonable businesswoman who’s willing to bend the rules if it’s for a good cause and the other being the shrewd one who bends the rules but only for her own benefits. 😂 weasel Lionel Hutz!
Nice video mate. I remember in the Speedlines section readers were constantly begging the Archie Sonic team to put Honey in the comic so I guess they pulled it off.Very interesting that they brought AOSTH characters into archie meaning that apart from Orbot & Cubot, Scratch and Grounder are the only other minions of Eggman that appeared in Sonic games, animations & comics. Also Steph did a great job as Breezie & Honey.
I'm of two minds regarding Archie Breezie. On the one hand, I feel like they gave her more depth and story options, but on the other, as you said, she's just the replacement fill-in for Mammoth Mogul and it's pretty obvious. Personally I didn't care that much about him nor am I that concerned about his IDW replacement, Clutch (not against either of them, I'm just not invested.) Also, I liked both designs but I'm kind of tired of all the standardization of Modern Sonic character designs. OG Breezie has a very generic body type but it's less common in Sonic now a days. Even if they didn't give her more of a Rouge bod, something Plus size would've been branching out significantly. Just a small gripe. Although Wes's redesign was excellent! I kinda wish they'd lowered his ears and much like Clutch, I feel like he really needed pants (lol I know we didn't see that in the comics but his official concept art is up on DeviantArt, as I understand it.) But it's still fantastic, pretty dang close, and very weasel looking. I wish Wes got to be Breezie's business partner so he wasn't just a cameo filler. It would probably explain how Breezie ended up where she did after learning the ropes from him (could also have some fun dialog between Wes and Coconuts.) Plus both of them doing the announcing could've been cute. Like yeah Breezie doesn't have to but she did have a talk show in AoStH and that could be another nod to it if she tries stirring up extra drama between the contestants or something lol. But the Arc was pretty packed with characters, backstory with multiple game nods, and hooks for Sonic Universe so I realize that might not have been doable even if Ian had actually wanted to (I'm under the impression he doesn't care much about the AoStH characters; they were just easy to include. I could be wrong.) I do really like the implications that even if Breezie was neutral, she's presumably better than Eggman since she kept her contract deals with Wes (unlike Robotnik in AoStH) and the S6 adored her (I feel like they must've had enough if they actually left Robotnik's side plus she was respectful towards them.) I honestly feel like AoStH Breezie got the shaft to a degree, so some kind of complete combination of the two versions would be the ultimate choice for me. I respect not liking the idea that Breezie could still be a robot in Archie though (especially since they didn't tease it enough in the Champions Arc if they were going that route.) I like both options myself; Mobian or Badnik so I'd be cool with either result. Just a shame we never got to see more. As for Honey, I really hope they do something more with her in IDW Classic besides that one cameo, even if that means revising her design or role to be more in line with what SEGA prefers now a days (no hair for example.) I enjoyed her in Archie but she could also go further and change from her Viper roots I guess. I definitely agree on the Rarity similarities so I'd hope Honey could keep that aspect somehow since I feel like it's a unique combination. IDK I still haven't read that many of the IDW comics yet but that's my basic take. I just think it's a shame SEGA is less invested in side characters than any of the comics and other mediums are IMHO. Sorry for the long ramble and thanks for the video! 😸 Minor edits for clarity.
It’s kinda a shame that we likely won’t see these characters in Sonic related media ever again due to Sega’s strict restrictions on what can or cannot be featured in Sonic media.
I will never understand how “No non video game characters” or “classic characters stay in classic games” would help in the slightest, shit Harley Quinn one of DC’s most popular characters was from a TV show, Blade’s movie design was later used in the comics, and Superman’s whole extended cast was from the radio series What does SEGA gain from such a stupid restriction
@backupsx9912 "What does SEGA gain from such a stupid restriction" Control. They want to control everything by themselves and every writer is heavily restricted in creativity. Plus, it's pretty clear by now they don't care about characters and their fans and everything's perfectly fine for them. I swear, no other company has such a stupid mandate on its IP like Sega.
@@ashesGeek I wouldn’t say they don’t care about their fans, I assume they don’t want another Penders situation, still someone else tried that and failed, I just really hope they realize that it won’t happen again
@@backupsx9912 Freedom Fighters haven't been in anything except Archie comics for 25 years. Sega themselves wanted to throw them out of the Archie reboot, but they only got lucky because they were "grandfathered" in Archie Sonic stories. I don't even want to say about others, it's a miracle fans know anything about Fleetway Sonic comics, even if they only know about its Super Sonic form. Fans pleaded for Cosmo to be in the games, but Sega won't do it because they screwed up with legal issues. Somehow I sense they won't even add Sticks and IDW comics characters, they just said that to make fans shut up. So with or without Penders Sega was and still is a huge stinkhole. You don't see something like that happening with Nintendo even though they suffer from butthurting and banning every fan project, even if it's for free.
Personally, I'd like the "Breezie was an Eggman robot who went rogue to become a businesswoman" twist. Either way, I hope we get Lost Hedgehog Tales in our lifetimes. On a related note, Breezie possibly having a thing for Metal Sonic is hilarious to me.
2:06 There’s even more interesting history for her in the fandom. People found left over data for her in the Gems and Arcade versions of the game. And slowly restored as much as they could with those files in the Arcade version, as she was almost gone in the Gems version. She became a popular character at the time which was I believe around the mid to late 2000s? It even shocked the devs who were bringing her back in the 360 and PS3 versions to see her appear in fan art already, when she should’ve been a secret to the public.
I really like Honey the Cat and Breezie the Hedgehog. I do wish the Archie Comic versions of them get repurpose for the IDW stories. Oh well, at least we got enough material of their more definitive versions to use for fan works.
5:03 Obvious nod to her first appearance in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Love Sick Sonic However in that series she was a robot who was intentionally designed to look like a sexy female Hedgehog to trap Sonic
8:37 to be fair I actually do prefer her original design from the adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and i wonder if he eventual Husband Robotnik Jr served as Inspiration for Dr Don't in Sonic Prime
3:36 Probably since Fighting Vipers can be pretty inappropriate. As when we fight, you can knock the clothes off of the other characters, even the minors like Honey. Leaving some of them in their underwear. As for her design, I really hope they don’t change it. It’s perfectly fine for the Sonic series and doesn’t need to change. It sure is flashy, but that’s the point.
I’m not a huge fan of Grounder’s eyes always being closed. I liked them more being open. Besides, I feel like they only did it to be more accurate to the original design which I’m not a fan of. Redesigning the two to fit the style is fine as retain most of their original design as possible which is what I want in Sonic character redesigns. But Grounder’s eyes being changed is something I don’t like as it needlessly changed Grounder’s eyes from what I thought was the better original eyes. I wouldn’t mind the eyes if they had a simple explanation that it’s just eyes Grounder wanted, or whatever. But it’s a minor detail that doesn’t need an explanation so it obviously would’ve most likely not get an explanation as it would be pointless. So I’ll probably continue not liking the change, as I prefer trying to stay as true to the original Sonic characters’ designs as much as possible when translating them to the main series. If they aren’t from the main series. It’s why I prefer the late pre-reboot designs for most of the Freedom Fighters over their reboot designs. As they stay the most true to the original designs while working with the Sonic style. Even if I don’t mind Sally wearing clothes, or Bunnie’s robotic parts and clothes were simplified for the main series. I would prefer it for Sally for consistency sake.
