What really irks me is that all the money comes from ashfield and all the star junior talent come from campbelltown. The balmain half havent offered anything.
It's funny how the nrl ceo said "The league will die if we don't bring the number of clubs down" and yet Rugby League had survived just fine for 90 years before that and since then The AFL has INCREASED the number of teams in their competition.
There lies the quandary.... the money at the time was drying up in the NRL. Revenues were down, costs were outweighing revenues. In the 90's the "game" turned very quickly into a business. You could not run the game based on "we've done it this way for 90 years" .... Rugby League in Australia had to change. Gate receipts at league games were rarely as high as AFL games - so the NRL had to do something. Shrinking for the good of the game!
They ripped the heart of the game I’m a bears fan and I not only lost my team in the main competition but we also got used abused and misused and spat out by the whores of the League Manly
Players from which two teams are shown on the NRL trophy? Holman and Proven - from two teams forced into mergers and that no longer exist in their own right. The NRL needs to bring the Magpies back or come up with another trophy. Maybe one showing the NRL boss putting the boot into fans while picking their pocket.
Western Suburbs and Balmain should have been relocated to Melbourne instead of merging. Still remain there roots and foundation as a Sydney Inner-West Club. With that little child says Magpie makes me so sad for that club and what NRL done to there historical clubs. I understand poor management was the cause of there demise. But those clubs are and should be always have automatic immunity. Because without them there is no Rugby League. The reason I say they should’ve been relocated to Melbourne because AFL already has two teams with the same teams with the same logo. I know Melbourne supporters would’ve embraced the foundation clubs. It would’ve promoted Rugby League greatly in Victoria. But at the same time those teams would still have there Sydney roots remained in junior development.
Love to see all those foundation clubs back as stand alone entities and wonder where all these officials that stated that the cull was vital to be sustainable are and what they think now as if it would matter? Blood and heartbreak on someones hand...
Foundation clubs of the game should never be compromised in any way. If they merged they should be called Western Suburbs/Balmain with both teams having there logo. But I’ve always said that they should’ve been relocated to Melbourne & their was already two teams in AFL with same logo’s. AFL supporters would’ve embraced Magpies & Tigers cause of there foundation. Melbourne Storm are rubbish and Super League creation. Neil Whittaker was a sell out to his traditional roots. These people should be put in gaol for destroying history for the Cheats Melbourne Storm. There was an option between foundation clubs existence and Melbourne Storm I wouldn’t even blink an eye lid. Foundation clubs of the game will remain.

So nice the wests supporters putting the team gears on as a family ,sad ,but I guess at least they still have west tigers ,but norths are gone from NRL top grade .
And Norths won't be coming back anytime soon. I had a soft spot for them but let's be honest they did not leave much of a footprint in the NSWRL from their inception in 1908 to their demise in 1999.

Sure Balmain have offered something, the Tigers!
I am honoured that they showed the Bear of North Sydney Leagues Club. I’m a Bear and I wear that jersey with pride.

Dean very true there are 18 teams now up from 16 in 2010 and the Giants were Grand Finalists this year and GC Suns are useless as tits on a bull

Whittaker you puppet, you should be ashamed of your role destroying Norths on behalf of Arthurson and Winfield Quayle.
I wasn't happy with the merger. I went to Canberra Raiders

if super league came out the winner and the sole competion runner there would be no merger
Area that producers many good players robbed
Wests and Balmain lost their souls due to the merger. After 20 years, the team that replaced them, (West Tigers), still feels like an imposter to me.
Get over it

Rugby League is not Cronulla Sutherland Sharks & Newcastle Knights.
It’s a national competition, for the game to grow you have to expand
Can’t become a global game from just being the NSWRL again
