    **Spoiler Warning**
    It just kills me that such a genius was torn apart because he was a homosexual......I mean he saved millions of lives and ended up taking his own life:(

      Abdullah Nasir that is one of the many inaccuracies this film presents:stating outright that Turing committed suicide when it was never confirmed and a lot of people believe that he died accidentally from cyanide exposure

      A lot of people also believed that he was slowly poisoned by the Government

      Now I'm not saying that he definitely did not die from suicide, but It was never 100% confirmed. Also, do you really think that brilliant people never die from exposure to harmful materials? Ever hear of Marie Curie? You know one of the most famous female scientists in history? She died of Uranium poisoning. Other famous scientists have died as well. Galileo Galilei and Robert Bunsen didn't die, but they were blinded by their work. So don't act like I'm stupid just because you think there are never accidents in science. Also even if Turing did die from suicide that doesn't change my opinion that this film is terrible, its inaccurate, cliche, most of the events are fabricated to play on your easily manipulated emotions, the characters are all caricatures they don't feel like real people, the dialogue and events don't feel real, and the fact that it won for its screenplay over whiplash is hilarious. Alan Turing deserved much better than this safe piece of shit Oscar bait. I mean first it presents the idea that he briefly covered for John Caincross who he never even met. Second it presents the idea that he had some weird love for his machine because it symbolized his love for his friend which is just ridiculous, sentimental,and inaccurate) and the fact that people actually think that's beautiful is equally ridiculous. Not only that but the way Turing's character is written, he feels like an unlikable combination of Sherlock Holmes and Sheldon Cooper while the real Turing was always respected by hs colleagues. Also lot of the scenes are designed to get the audience to laugh at Turing for personality traits he didn't even have which is especially horrible considering the film makers supposedly want us to respect him. And if you think I'm crazy for writing such a long response just remember its because you said brilliant people like Turing never die from their work

      Ian Levinson A lot of stuff you just said are ridiculous are actual proven things that happened in his life recently

    I've been pushing Alan Turing on people for years, his rightful place is among the greatest heros of modern world. So happy his life is getting some more exposure.

    • @PatrickJamesUK

      Yes, Alan Turing is one of the hero's of the modern world.
      It is estimated he saved 14 million lives by shortening WWII.
      He invented the computer, which was first known as the Turing Machine before we started calling them computers.

    • @PatrickJamesUK

      Too bad this movie doesn't accurately portray the man for who he actually was. It's more like a skewed version of Turing's life and the facts or contributions he gave. I would have more respect for the movie if it did what it claims and present Turing's life. This wasn't Turing's life, it's bits of his life in essence.

    • @DanielPage
      @DanielPage 9 лет назад

      ***** Though to be honest, Babbage's work on general computing didn't really become a common concept in mathematics. It is more often than not seen as an "after the fact" observation, not a stepping stone. His work on the Difference Engine on the other hand did get into the views of Science as valuable contributions as it was actually built and used for computing astronomical tables. It took until post-Turing years to see what Babbage did with the Analytic Engine (AFTER) the theory of computation was already established by the likes of Turing and others like Kleene, Godel, Church, and Post. That's why he is often not credited to the same regard by scientists. It didn't make a huge leap in the computing world (the Difference Engine did, but the Analytic Engine was more of an "after the fact" thing for the most part). It is correct to say it was the first described, but in terms of its influence it definitely didn't play a big role. An obvious sign of this is due to the fact that first general-purpose computers appeared years later in the 1940's. Babbage's general computing work was lost to time for the most part. It was Turing's work that made modern computation possible, and to give a more precise way for mathematicians to talk about computation with respect to problems; the hallmark of theoretical computer scientists (like myself).

    I am so excited to see this movie, and I'm so happy to see the increase in movies about LGBT+ people that have come out in the past few years. It's important that we start acknowledging that some of the most important people in history weren't straight, and that that's okay.

    This was a great movie, probably one of my fave WWII movies I've ever seen. I love how they were able to create a sense of suspense about the war with virtually no filming of actual battle scenes.
    Also a very tragic movie. Alan Turing contribute immensely to the allied victory, was crucial to the foundation of computer science, and it's just so sad to see things end up for him the way they did.

      Jon Arnall that’s just the world we live in. Have you not seen the news and anti- gay hate speeches? As a Christian, I can tell you that the one enemy against gays are religious groups. I believe God loves all, including gays. Some Christians can’t let go of the past though. Also, if you don’t believe in god then I can’t really speak for God. Maybe people are just judgmental people. But, I believe there is an after life and you don’t. And that’s fine with me.
      Also, happy Pride Month rainbow 🌈
      P.s. Atheists don’t hate me or get hostile. Just sharing my beliefs. And yes, we Christians can be jerks. Yet, we’re not all bad and we listen to opinions. Like our religion being rubbish. Yet, it is just a religion based off of hope. Can’t really have on science of it when it’s about men walking on water.😄😆

    I saw this film a few weeks ago as I live in the UK.
    This is really, truly, a superb film. Benedict Cumberbatch is brilliant as Alan Turing.
    I know the Alan Turing story very well and although I knew pretty much everything that was going to happen in the film it was still a powerful drama for me.
    The film stays pretty close to the original story however inevitably there are some alterations so that the whole story can be portrayed in a film. There is one alteration to the story which I would have preferred if they hadn't changed, although it would have added maybe 30 mins to the film duration, I would have preferred that longer film with the story even more true to historic events.
    I am a gay man myself, I know that when anything involving gay people is on RUclips then there will be homophobia in the comments section. Nowadays I just feel sorry for those people that wish to express hatred in this way. How terrible it must be to be them, so full of hatred like that. I am so glad I am a happy gay man and not like them.

    • @Cassandra6

      ***** The point is that many people say they have a problem with seeing sexual/romantic representation of gay people being out in the open, but then they have NO problem with the sexual aspect of heterosexual relationships being shown everywhere .. that is hypocritical.
      And if a person can't accept seeing one gay person in a movie and say it is being "shoved in their face" then that is hypocritical and homophobic.

    See below. The comments on this video express exactly what I think is wrong with the whole LGBT movement today. There are only 2 types of people making comments: Those who only like the movie because it has a gay protagonist and those who only dislike the movie because it has a gay protagonist. How about we forget the sexual orientation of the protagonist for two seconds and actually judge the movie based on the criteria that makes a movie good or bad?

    • @zuesunleashed

      This criteria you are referring to partially involves how effectively the underlying message of equality is delivered. There is nothing wrong with liking the film because of this motif. So yes, those who like the movie significantly for this reason ARE judging it based on whether it's 'good' or 'bad.'

      @mimibrightzola 9 лет назад +5

      kay jay I don't think he's saying, just ignore his sexual orientation and heck with it, but it is more in a sense that since the film had many other aspects too, it is unfair to judge the entire movie just on Turing's sexual orientation when there were other great aspects in the movie such as acting, music, plot, etc. His homosexuality was only revealed in the second part of the movie, so the whole first half was about breaking the Enigma code, it is somewhat unfair when people watch the movie like it, but then all of a sudden a controversial topic comes up and it makes them dislike it all of a sudden. They should treat the homosexuality *in the story* as a plot-device (because it was a key element to Turing's story) instead of something that reflects their morals.

    I grow up in a 2 mom family and chris, I'm not saying this for people to feel bad for me. Growing up can be shit. I have been picked on my entire life but I'm at the point where I could give less of a fuck. I was thinking about suicide a few times but I never did it because people kept telling me life would get better. Movies are like an escape for me. And Chris, every time you upload a video, my day gets a billion times better. I'm not saying this to be cheesy. I truly mean this. Chris, your videos bring light into my life. every time I see you on RUclips I feel like you are right Infront of me and we are having an awesome conversation. So I think I am speaking for many of your fans but Chris, you are one of the reasons I'm alive. I can't thank you enough. Thank you.

    Props to this movie for being the only movie this year that made me brush away man tears. I have one problem with this movie, and in a certain context, it isn't even a problem. It could just be because of budget constraints, but in a few of the scenes of the special effects looks very dated. Like, really? they had to do a cgi smoke effect? But apart from that I have next to no problems with this movie. it's one of the best movies i've seen all year.

    I am a HUGE fan of Benedict Cumberbatch and he never fails to impress me every time I think he cannot possibly improve, he does. I've seen this film three times in the cinema now because I simply had to keep seeing it. It is a fantastic movie and everyone should go see it. Alexandré Desplat's score is magnificent and the performances are out of this world. Cumberbatch deserves an Oscar for his performance here. He could have so easily turned Turing into just another portrayal of Sherlock but he didn't. Turing isn't Sherlock and Cumberbatch really brings the character to life. I always feel with Benedict Cumberbatch that you forget he is an actor and he just totally becomes the person he is playing. Magnificent performance in a magnificent film!
    Also, thanks for reviewing this I've been waiting so long for your review! The film came out on November 14th here in Ireland and I've been waiting for reviews since. thank you!

    This film made me sick. And not because it was bad (it was great) but because it showed allegedly mankinds true colours yet again. Mankind will never accept what it cannot understand. We are the weakest and most dispicable of all animals. To see this war hero be damned and "cured" of his illness really hit me right in the heart. *spoiler* he fucking killed himself, and for what? For not being normal? This is me being first of all quite drunk and second of all being pessimistic but I really do hope there comes a time mankind learns to accept things being different and understanding that different is not necessarily bad, however scary it may seem.

    i've seen all the best performances this year and i can honestly say that cumberbatch gave the best performance of 2015. (and for me it wasn't even his career best - that would be Parade's End). 3:13 depends on culture and where you are from. My family would also disown me too because things are not the same in USA (or western countries) as they are in other places. You won't get killed in my culture or castrated or sent to court, but it is not considered traditional and hence not accepted. Again, there is a difference among getting stoned & killed , discrimination and what is happening in my country. It is just not in our genes, does not work with our norms.

    I've seen all of this years Oscar contenders and this is the one I cant stop talking about. Everything about it is utterly fascinating to me, and I am so in love with Alan Turing, his strength and bravery and intelligence are remarkable. You're so right regarding Alan's homosexuality and what a struggle it was for him, his interpretation was very honest, and raw. I'm so sad because this movie is amazing and in my mind, deserves Best Picture, but it looks like Boyhood is just going to sweep this year and that is such a bummer.

      I totally agree. They took the fascinating story of a brilliant man and turned it into dumbed-down, middlebrow, King's Speech-lite guff. It's as if the filmmakers were trying to explain the story to primary school kids, not an audience of adults. Turing deserved a much better film than this.

    • @eviola11
      @eviola11 9 лет назад +1

      harrysecombegroupie It's so true. It's as if they just thought: "Okay this story itself is instant oscar bait, we don't really have to try." I wish they had the structure, tone, seriousness of like Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy with this story.

    • @eviola11
      @eviola11 9 лет назад +1

      ***** That's not what I'm talking about. The interactions were not believable at all. Guy walks in and just throws a bottle at his machine w/o saying a word? General accuses him of being a spy (an extremely serious accusation) in front of everyone willy nilly? Would never happen. They break the code and want to warn intelligence, Turing says "wait!" and gets punched in the face before they even hear what he has to say? Would never ever happen.

    Also, thank you for addressing how horribly people who are gay can be treated. I personally am not gay, but my family is very Catholic. Both of my parents work in ministry, and they are very much against gay marriage. I'm 100% supportive of gay marriage, and we've talked many times about it and I've actually cried over them not being supportive because of how unjust I think their opinion of gay people is. It's very comforting to know people like you who think current treatment of people who are gay is horrible. So thanks again for that. :)

    The sadness of man is how we dare to control others and their decisions. While not trying to agree to disagree without having problems and to remember with that. We are not changing ourselves by not forcing them to be like us. What we are doing then is choosing to show them love and compassion and empathy to the best of our ability while leaving them to their own decisions til they be ready someday to come back around to hear the other side while still sharing how we made it in our lives. That’s if they run into problems.

    Chris Stuckmann The imitation Game was one of my favourite movies over the last few years, cumberbatch's performance is superb and so gut wrenchingly painful to watch, it made me cry a little, having had friends go through the stigma of being gay just helped to make it worse, and the raw pain in his face in the finale is superb.
