@@InkquiringMinds And Ukes are underappreciated. Most people just think Hawaiian music, but great for folk music as well. It is truly a hobo's instrument, as guitar would be too large for train hopping. And anyone that plays guitar can transition fairly easily.
I just received one of these; yesterday evening; the last one on Amazon. It's very small, a ladies pen. It came in a Moonman box. I flushed and inked with Diamine Raspberry Rose and at first it was scratchy and I was a little disappointed but after all, the pen is from five years ago, and Chinese pens have improved enormously since then. But today, I picked up the pen again and the longer I wrote with it, the smoother it got, and the more I look at it, the better I like it. I especially like the engraved New Moon on the cap ring. It's well done. This little pen is going to be an every day pen for me. By the way, Doug, I have a dress that I purchased for Elegant Night on a cruise, that also resembles this pen. My pen did not have the fude nib.
I love that pen. I have the same colour as Chris52 (saw it in Aaron's pen videos), but now I'm thinking I need the rose as well. Thanks for the great review.
@@idipbananasintocoffee Mostly the QC, but also some structural failures of the earlier models. This machined resin one certainly doesn't have those, but the QC inconsistencies are probably still present.
Excellent review as always. Maybe I have one from an older batch (Jan this year) but mine takes three and a half turns. No big deal for me but it would pee some people off. Great upturned nib so smooth. And the resin is gorgeous. I have the pearlescent blue green cracked ice. Thanks again for a good video.
Have the same red with upturned nib and a 3 1/2 turn barrel. It's a fantastic combo. My first Dalike as well. Only my second bent Fude style nib. After an initial clean and filled with Private Reserve "Burgundy Must", it writes SO smooth. Have minimal experience with this nib type but it's made me pick up a few more "nibbed" pens yesterday. Very impressed with cost/performance of this pen.
Love Yama-budo. Out of the all the Iroshizuku inks I have it is going to be the first one that I will use up the whole bottle, as it is already well on the way. Always have a Wing Sung 699 full of it.
@@InkquiringMinds For me my go to blue ink is Navajo Turquiose and sometimes Baystate Blue, although that one only goes into dedicated pens. The Navajo Turquiose is in my 500 in Summer resin, which is a nice natch.
Finally someone solved the mystery that was "moonman and delike - same company?" for me. It is so annoying when dealers blur the identity on purpose. I have a brass delike pen that is a Kaxeco liliput, and that delike nib is one of the better ones i've seen happy to see this delike share that trait. Taking into consideration that this is an inexpensive pen, makes you think.
Solved? It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma deciphered into a lunar capsule delivered by AliExpress. Because there is a Moonman M100 'Dark Rose'. Same acrylic. Same name. Same way that gives us pleasure through beauty. From a time when Moonman showed us he was serious. If I not mistaken Ranga pens has also a sort of 'Dark Rose' with another name. #darkrosefansclub
From the confused way some of the descriptions are written, it is certainly not on purpose from all of them. I think the one's that did it purposefully confused a lot of other sellers as well. It is a mess.
Amazon's nomenclature is not rocket science either. Good luck if you find a cheap Pelikan described as EF, F, M or B. Because life is hard. Harder by taobao/alibaba reseller with ebay/aliexpress store. I admire his imagination. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. A flock of Jinhao 126 roosted in "bamboo" boxes sold at 25 euros each. Baoers and Heros wrapped as if they were porcelain from the Ming dynasty and sold as such… All these memorable moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Do you know if possible to purchase extra delike nibs or nib section? I like the Delike nibs (despite being a #5 nib) and could use a couple extra mini-fude but no idea who to contact. I purchased a multi-color mostly blue & green but also cream, violet, rust ... from Amazon about a year ago so had to check there if these are the same new moon pens-think so & surprised to see a few still available! I was quite surprised when I ordered this - not quite certain about the resin - but when it arrived I was thrilled with how pretty & unusual it looks plus a nice nib & good feel in the hand.
Like cooked roses and sugar, aaaaaand...no. Even I'm not that much of an oddball 🤪 I can't help that I have a taste for stuff that would have been on an old Victorian lady's breakfast tray. I'm a foodie. And was a mild fan of Merchant Ivory films in college.

Thanks for the reference. You didn't mention that the nib is referred to as a Bent nib. If someone orders the EF they will probably not be happy. I have enjoyed the Delike bent nibs for many years. This is not a "new" model but Delike has used different resins for the New Moon model that preceded the 3. For this model, I reviewed a blue (Galaxy) color in August of 2017. The many models of Chinese pens are made more complex by the names used by sellers. One may say it takes a lot of study to try to make sense of them. At least some of us try. Be safe & healthy.
@@InkquiringMinds In my experience, Delike only uses "bent" for this style. Other pen makers use other terms. Mini-fude is not a defined nib as far as I know. Fudes usually have an angle associated with them, Sailors in particular. Waverly is a different nib, similar but not the same. PenBBS just calls them F. Bobby calls his a handmade nib. So many ways to define a nib type.
I picked up the green one several weeks ago. I love the body, but the whole nib unit was jacked on mine. The nib tines kept popping out of alignment and the lip of the nib collar cracked apart. I replaced the nib with one from a Jinhao 992 and it made a world of difference.
@@InkquiringMinds - I did find replacements for them, though. They use a different collar than any other brand, but Shelly (esybuy) has replacement units in her Amazon store (Lanxivi). So if you ever find yourself in need of spare collars, she has them on Amazon.
Thanks Doug. I bought this pen in three different finishes quite a while ago. They were advertised as New Moon 2 and write beautifully. The New Moon 3 came much later and, like you, I found it a great disappointment. Thankfully, it was very cheap, so I can salvage the nib, feed and converter.
It's on my List Douglas, for 2021 I started way cheaper, Jinhao X750, and Baoer 508 Fountain Pens, that latter one in 3 Colors. I seem to add Pens, that i don't actually need, or i do have Money for, on a List...because of your Channel. :-)
You can always just send them straight to me to clear your conscience! I started (or restarted) with a Jinhao x450 too. I really started with a Sheaffer Student cartridge pen.

Delike New Moon history is longer than you may think. It started with the New Moon, a solid pastel color resin pen which was approximately as short as the New Moon 3. The New Moon 2 was next, longer and swirled resin. Then the New Moon 3, metal and short. The new New Moon is basically an acrylic New Moon 2. So, progression and then regression in naming.

actually this is always and still named New Moon 2 by the Mfr , its only the online retailer who call it otherwise , and the New Moon 2 actually came quite some time before the New Moon 3 , though the new acrylic pattern is relatively new , the model itself is not, and for a measure the original New Moon model still being offered by Delike though not knowing for how long , just as any of the Chinese calligraphy nib the mini-fude got their line variation by utilizing the pen at various angle and penmanship that facilitate but those are not really suited for Cursive
Douglas Rathbun Try out or have a look at a Duke 558 - very nice mid-body bulge type Note taker. Worst, most insecure cap for posting of any fountain pen I've owned. Makes the new moon 3 look snug. Even that I can write with posted if I don't wave it about.
Certainly looks to be an improvement on the previous pen Doug and paint it black on the Uke was different.. For too similar to other pens I have to be a considered choice but a nice looking pen all the same.
This isn't the only pen with a rattly convertor. Even some expensive ones can end up with less than perfect convertor. It is very annoying when it happens.
@@InkquiringMinds Me too. Convertor included is a must, and if it works and doesn't rattle that is great. If it is higher end convertor, then that is nice too. Nice wide mouth on some of the newer pen is s good improvement, even if it is convertor only pen, as cartridges might be harder to locate, but I don't use them, so it is all good.

With the multiple names given to everything from types of nibs (mini-fude, Waverly, bent) it is hard to know what is what.

I noticed the nib collars were rather soft which is pretty typical for this price range.

Of the reddish inks I have, Yama Budo is the closest match and a lovely ink. It comes out way more fuscia on video than it actually is.
Hello Dough. I have a good new, the Moonman M6 nib unit matches with the Fuliwen 017 section. Now the pen works well.

The nib and writing quality is exactly the same as my 4 year old Delike brass pocket pen. Most reliable writer I own.
