- What is Jesus' sixth "I Am" statement all about? Let's discover it in our bible study.
The Gospel of John is the fourth and final Gospel in the Bible and is unique in comparison to the other three synoptic Gospels. Writing later than the other Gospels, John had more time to further ponder and contemplate on the sayings, teachings, and acts of Jesus, and how these actually point to the Divinity of Christ. Thus the Gospel of John is said to have a High Christology, depicting most clearly Jesus's Godhood.
In John we also see many unique materials only found here, with most scholars agreeing it consists of 2 main blocks - The Book of Signs from Ch. 1-12, and the Book of Glory from Ch. 13-20. We also get to hear some of Jesus' more personal words to the Disciples in the upper room, along with other distinctive sayings of Jesus, for example, the I AM statements.
The purpose of the Gospel was made clear by John, it is so that "you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing you may have life in his name." (John 20:31). Let's listen to the teachings of Jesus in the Gospel of John, that we may believe, and have Life in His name.
