You know what's strange, I played through it without really any problems. I had to move the Kinect to my massive living room (we have a full sized arcade in it now) in order to play it right. I honestly did not experience any real problems with it once I koved it to a large room with a very big TV (75 inch HD screen). Consequently, I have since replaced...well all of my HD screens with 4K UHD's. Maybe I will try to play Steel Battalion again.

When I was a child I had bought two copies of Superman 64 one for me and one for my friends birthday I was invited to. Everyone got excited when they saw what I had bought him and we were very quick to drop everything and couldn't wait to play it. I don't remember if we hated it or not I just remember being incredibly frustrated with the controls and flying too damn fast to keep up with the rings, if you even missed one the entire run was fucked and your time was thrown off. We grew tired of it quickly because of the difficulty and never played it again. Never really considered it to be a BAD game just extremely hard? Idk its probably bad

'e.t.' is erroneously blamed for killing the videogame industry, which is patently ridiculous. the history of the industry and of this game is pretty interesting, i think. :)

Itai Sprachman sure, it's a bad game and no one would really deny that. but, it's not the worst, either, and given the idea that one guy was tasked to make the game in a crazy short amount of time (i think it was like six weeks), you couldn't have asked for more.
if it didn't have 'e.t.' on the cover, it would have been forgotten as just another sub-par atari cart. because it says 'e.t.' on it, though, it's the worst game ever, which is an unfair distinction given the circumstances behind the game and the fact that it's not the worst game (it does suck, but there are worse out there). :)
imo, any top ten list (or five in this case) that includes this game as the worst without qualifying it isn't run by legit gamers. you would find 'e.t.' on a list run by some site like watchmojo, who i would hardly take seriously, lol.

'e.t.' is erroneously blamed for killing the videogame industry, which is patently ridiculous. the history of the industry and of this game is pretty interesting, i think. :)

but, i would argue that atari's 'pac-man' was a bigger culprit of the crash than 'e.t.' indeed, atari's mismanagement went a long way in it all falling apart, but circumstances outside atari's control have to be acknowledged (e.g., computer systems becoming affordable, a glut of game consoles, etc.). too, when it began legal for third parties to make games for the 2600, a barrage of terrible games hit the shelves. if you want to blame games, blame a hundred others as a collective 'fuck you' to us 2600 fans, not just 'e.t.' (which still sucked).
'e.t.' was the reason for the videogame crash of '83? no way, lol. but, that's how we often perceive it, and it's been a scapegoat for almost 25 years. it's time to put that myth to rest, eh? :)
