      Glad that you post and yes you've made it quite understandable.
      However, I always wonder why people insist that this is a technique. It would be like teaching that you have to get in the driver seat and turn on the car as a technique to driving.
      To me where technique comes in is when you done this cross/meet process has been done and you can't discern anymore naked singles. Techniques to me, come in when you've exhausted this basic process. Techniques, are what help you to discern and select the correct cell entry from a naked pair.

    Thank you so much. Due to a recent severe illness, I was left with a “brain fog.” I was told if would go away, and challenging my brain would be excellent therapy. My husband brought me a Sudoku book. Searching around, I found your you tube channel. I love it! And most importantly, doing Sudoko has been so therapeutic; my brain fog has lifted. Thank you so much!

    Your teaching method is awesome, the part I admire the most is the "cementing" of your hints by the repetition of all previous lessons; one easily captures subtle details that may have been missed.

      Well said, and I know why.
      I taught for over 30 years, trained and observed many teachers and Mr. Sudoku Guy has a good teacher’s instinct. We should all appreciate time with a natural teacher. Some points:
      Our (my) Sudoku Guy knows how fast to talk, how to remind and recycle previous points in the flow, and, best of all, how to anticipate students’ questions,
      His humor doesn’t dominate or distract, but makes feel he’s talking to me and not an invisible in a darkened lecture hall taking notes.
      I enjoy his lessons and always look forward to the next one with the security of knowing I won’t be left behind.
      Now, I don’t want to spoil the “Guy”, so let’s just keep this to ourselves.

    I have watched only 6 of your excellent videos, and am now doing Sudokus that are 'hard' because of just the few techniques I learned -- for example, never occurred to me to look at the individual rows and columns. The repetition and slowness is also really good, because the one reinforces and the other makes it possible to stop and look again, to make sure one has understood the technique. The advice about only two little numbers in one block also very helpful. And thank you very much, Mr Sudoky Guy, for not talking about yourself and your fine waistcoat and other such nonsense -- always very off-putting. Thank you again and look forward to more lessons.

    These are great videos. I'm a little more experienced that the audience these are aimed at, but I wish I found you back 7 or 8 years ago when i started. I've kind of developed my own methods, I work mainly by gestalt, kind of absorbing the whole thing at once. But watching these videos I realize that if I slow down and think about what I'm doing, it turns out I'm doing exactly what you're teaching, only combining two or three techniques at once.
    I can't wait until you get to puzzles that give five or six fewer numbers to start with.

When I watched you teaching lesson numbers 7 I was intimidated but you're teaching techniques made it a piece of CAKE 🍰 please don't change any of you're teaching techniques. Now when I do a Sudoku puzzle that has three or four numbers in a block I'm ready for the challenge. "Bring it on"... See how your enthusiasm rubs onto people. Looking forward to lesson 8 🤓 I hope you don't mind me asking were you ever a math or science teacher??? See you in number 8. 😯WHOOP!!!

    When I was first learning the technique where you are placing strips of paper. I would shade in the line with my pencil to show that line was taken up by the number. Eventually, I started to do this mentally without difficulty. The visualisation helped me to use the Sudoku technique. Placing a ruler over the block would be a cleaner way of doing this instead of shading.

    I am probably a little past this point, but does well to remind me just how hard it was when I started. So many times you did not put in what an advanced player would have seen, but proceeded with the technique being discussed making the lesson so much clearer. (Easier to point someone in your direction than try and explain it myself, much easier). As for the repetition it does make it better for the new player

    Oh yea, (Sydney again) do you think you could make a list of your steps going into a puzzle?
    For example,
    1. Look at the horizontal and givens.
    2. Look for blocks with only 2 empty spaces….
    3. Note only 2 candidates…
    I don’t know want to do next or what *not* to do.

      2 LCR # then cross meet Lesson 7
      3 watch for ramifications every time a new number is solved
      4 look rows col and blocks with only 2 empty cells
      5 " " " " with only 3 empty cells left
      6L look for patterns e.g. X wings Mallets and cleaver
      7 enter all possible numbers i empty cells then look for locked little numbers Hidden matching pairs , triplets
      There are many other tricks to look for at this stage. (see tutorials 20 and above)

    I just started and this is how i started working it, I assumed there was a better method...so I stumbled onto this by logic...i always assumed this required math, it’s a puzzle with numbers. I couldn’t understand how doing math could be relaxing, but as a puzzle it’s a fun game! I’ve avoided this game for years!

    I arrived at this very method logically years ago. The only difference is that I do not solve by blocks, I solve by attrition, doing one number at a time in the whole puzzle. Once I have sequenced from 1 - 9, I start again at 1, and repeat the whole process until I run out of spaces to fill. I never pencil in more than 2 spaces until the attrition process is finished. It is possible to do most of the 'difficult' puzzles this way in 5 - 10 minutes. Once I run out of spaces and end up with pairs, I start on the 'what if' process. When that fails I give up and start another, but that's rare! :-))

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  5 лет назад +1

      Hi nlo114 . If it works for you that's great. Much depends on the design of the puzzle. There are many paths you can take to solve. It's a matter of what you spot and when.

    I developed all my own techniques.
    I use your "elimination " process on the numbers but do the entire puzzle for each number before moving onto other methods

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  5 лет назад +3

      If it works for you that's great, however when you get to the advanced levels you may have to look at other ways

    • @jadekayak01

      @@SudokuGuy maybee but i do the hard and extra hard all the time.
      The start is a single numbers but i do the whole grid,not one set of 3 boxes.
      Then i look for boxes,lines,or colums with only 2 or 3 numbers missing.
      Then pairs or tripples.
      If you have 5 missing and ther is a tripple in one box tbe oter 2 HAVE to be a pair.
      Ive seen a couple of vids on it lately and i have not yet seen a technique i dont use.
      (I dont do the other type of soduku wher they give you a total in the margins)

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  5 лет назад

      I do that too for all puzzles particularly the easy ones

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  5 лет назад +2

      My method is for beginners. If you have more experience by all means look at the whole puzzle.

    • @jadekayak01
      @jadekayak01 5 лет назад

      @@SudokuGuy if someone stuck to that method they would never progress beyond a begginer.
      You are trying to solve the whole puzzle so it makes sense to look at the wjole puzzle for each number.
      Its not difficult to stick to one number-row,colum,box at a time.
      Some people are way smarter than me and can work on 3-4 possabilities at a time,all on the sane number
      Just a side line-how many possible combinations are there(i cant be bothered working it out)
      If done thousands of puzzels so probably close to everything.
      I know some of them have been duplicated at different difficulty levels

    Once again a great video and great technique Robin, but I think I missed something. You said at the beginning you would explain the symbols you drew at the top, did you explain them? If so, sorry I missed them. Once again, I will go and watch again. Great teaching and entertaining us, thank you ever so much.

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  3 года назад

      Yes Larry I did explain I think. All cross/meet solving uses these patterns. Look for a block that does nott have the number you want and by crossing that number from nearby blocks you can find a place in the empty block for either small numbers (2) or one large number. I use this technique for ALL puzzles.

      Tulipwala Acutally, each of these represent a cross/meet technique which can be used. It has nothing to do with boxes. As you go further you will see what I mean.

      Sudoku Guy, as a teacher myself, I know what you mean, but what if you split the videos into more than one? A review part and a new stuff part? I'm solving a sudoku puzzle labeled extreme by SudokuMagic and I'm stuck big time. I don't want to watch a whole puzzle being solved just to find out you got nothing for me. Anyway- it's just a suggestion. I wonder if you'd mind if I sent you the puzzle I've Bern stuck with for the past two days and you could try to figure it out... I'm getting a little hopeless here.
