    Yes anyway you can get your son to interact is a win. My son is 11 now and was diagnosed w autism at 3 we did play therapy which was amazing. It can be hard when the play doesn’t seem normal but there is nothing wrong with that as long as they are having fun. I quickly learned to only buy what I knew he would enjoy ie fidget toys, stuffed animals, movies, and trains. He never played in a way that other kids did but he definitely has an imagination. It’s been a joy watching him grow and learn.

      I have caught onto that. The real way to get him to play and keep his attention his things he is interested in. If that is how I can get him to play then that’s what this momma is going to do :)

    My son is 12 and still has high sensory issues that impact his life. But he LOVES soft squishy things like stuffed animals or blankets, but not things that are squishy and wet lol
    My 9year old wanted preteen stuff last year. And this year she wants accessories for her 18in doll lol

      I love how Elliott is starting to get lovey with stuffed animals, that’s something new for him and it’s going good so far ! Ya, with anything wet or sticky he is very hesitant about lol. With Sadie she was the same way. She goes back and forth with teen stuff and toys but I’m in no rush for her to grow up :)

    I just wanted to say hi my son was diagnosed with Autism as well mild to moderate in communication and Socializing. Yes I had to teach him to pretend play. It does work. He was about 2 years old today he is 6 and he has come a long way. I actually homeschool him. We had a program he just graduated from once he turned 6. He plays on now his own and makes up his own play. Patience and creativity. And remembering your not alone when you have your struggles.My little boy loved music so songs/rhymes to act out was fun for him, we played cars, dinosaurs, doctor, taking care of babies, and acting out stories like the hungry caterpillar, chika chika boom boom, just whatever he was into. Like your video by the way.

      Thank you for sharing. I think it’s very helpful and encouraging knowing when people aren’t alone in times like this and getting advice from people who have been there is powerful. I’m glad to hear he has continued to grow, thank you :)

    From one autism mom to another if he does well with dry foods like cheerios then try a sensory bin with stuff like that. My point is don't put the sensory bin on the back burner maybe just try a different texture of sensory use food if you have to. You can make a sensory bottle with a clear water bottle some rice and hot glue then he can look hear and feel the vibrations of the moving foods it helped my son! But please just keep trying different texture and different styles of sensory I get it I've been there and still there at times but it does get easier! I see you and appreciate you! It's not easy but o so worth it! Parents of special needs kids are special people to! It takes a certain kind of person to handle it! ❤

    • @hannaholiver
      @hannaholiver  7 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much ! I never even thought to try sensory bins that way, he would probably enjoy them in that way. Getting others peoples advice and perspectives are great tools so thank you for sharing and being so kind :)
